We've been down the rabbit hole the last few weeks discussing the NBA's officiating scandal. If referees were (and maybe still are?) fixing games, ensuring certain results and outcomes, the NBA is closer to a scripted entertainment product (like a play or movie) than a fair and level competitive sport. How different is the NBA from professional wrestling? The WWF has had its own issues with the credibility of referees. This week we're hopping in our time machines and investigating one of the WWF's marquee matchups, The Main Event. The Main Event took place and aired live on Friday, February 5th, 1988 at 8pm ET from the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event was  broadcast live and drew a 15.2 Nielsen rating and 33 million viewers, both records for American televised wrestling. The contest showcased a rematch between André the Giant and Hulk Hogan, and would ultimately be remembered for a controversial plot twist, which hinged on the officiating. Chris and Ben are joined by Chris Noble, AKA Trashbag Ghost, to deep-dive this harrowing, formative moment.TRASHBAG GHOST:Twitter: @trashbagghostIG: @trashbagghosttrashbagghost.com🚨🚨MERCH ALERT🚨🚨Support the podcast here:swishfm.com/merchSwish FM is Chris Wendelken and Ben Craw.SWISH FM:Web: SwishFM.comTwitter: @SwishFMRadioInstagram: @SwishFMRadioApple: apple.co/2NXjMP8Stitcher: stitcher.com/podcast/swish-fmSpotify: spoti.fi/2T7ZmjYGoogle: bit.ly/32KIiWsiHeart: ihr.fm/312LC1lMUSIC: Artist: LetheretteAlbum: Brown Lounge, Vol. 1Title: Montego FuzzLabel: WulfApple: apple.co/2kyOBLOSpotify: spoti.fi/2kqAhoT

This week journalist, producer and host, Tim Livingston, joins the show to talk about Whistleblower, his podcast series that investigates the betting scandal surrounding ex-NBA referee Tim Donaghy. While Donaghy resigned in disgrace and went to jail in 2007, Whistleblower surmises that he did not act alone, and the NBA league office not only knew about games being fixed, they were deeply involved in the process. For more on Whistleblower:whistleblowerpod.com🚨👕🚨MERCH ALERT🚨👕🚨We’re selling merch now!
