And so we got to the end of the International breaks for the 2021 calendar year with some more teams getting their ticket to Qatar 2022 (winter), some usual teams confirmed not going (Ivory Coast) and some other big ones that need a confederation playoff (Portugal, Italy). This last international break gave us CONCACAF games that made history and change the table. These are the US vs Mexico, Jamaica vs US, Canada vs. Mexico; that now made Canada the best TEAM of the qualifiers and only undefeated team in the region. Finally we dive into the MLS and Liga MX playoffs and how these will look like for the end of the 2021 season….. and yes!!!!! PUMAS made in to the first round and plays an out-of-form Toluca Beer of episode: Upland Brewery Oktoberfest Marzen, 6.1%, 20 IBU; Bloomington, IN Bourbon of episode: Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, 45.2% (90.4 proof); Versailles, KY. IN CONMEBOL Brazil is 3-points away from qualification, CONCACAF US hosts Jamaica, Canada goes to Azteca to play Octagonal Leaders Mexico. The news of the season is that Newcastle United FC has now been acquired by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, and now the clubs financial backing is 13 times more than the previous big club (Manchester City). Lots of discussions and talks in this episode about this. We have another fan email. Let’s start talking the new CONCACAF Champions League format for 2023. This new format will increase from 16 to 27 teams to qualify for competition. It will also create two new Qualifier Cups to give teams in Caribbean and Central American countries more chances to compete in the biggest club competition in this area. It also gives Canadian teams, not in MLS, a chance to participate. But also half of the 27 teams are from LigaMX and MLS automatic spots. What a week!!! Shocker games with upsets, goals overload in some games, BIG teams loosing, big players showing up, and overall a good Champions League week. Send us your best football/soccer inspired halloween pictures. We have another fan email. Our fan asks us about the Bi-Annual World Cup and reasons why that is, or is not, happening. Their second question is about a World Champions League Tournament and it would make sense. Finally another of our listeners, Alex, reached out to help them find a team. We also now can talk about the UEFA Champions League group draw. The MLS All-Stars won on penalties against the Liga MX All-Stars in a match that was an “Exhibition” and was not very exciting to watch. We give our suggestion about how to make this better. In this episode we pay our respects for a wonderful woman, player, and advocate of the game: Carli Lloyd. After a wonderful career she is not retiring from the beautiful game and this show will forever be grateful for great moments that she made us enjoy. Thank for the great memories and for helping USWNT remain the gold standard. The MLS All-Star game is happening next week and this year it’ll be the “best” squad of players from all the team in MLS against their counter parts in Liga MX. Both Dan and I have different expectations of the exhibition match but we agree that is going to have potential for lots of goals. Now that we have the first week completed in the 3 mayor European leagues done, we share our feelings towards the highlights of the weekend games Finally we have invited a great friend and listener, Ben, of the show to join us in an exercise that promises to be fun. The time has now come!!!! The seasons are about to begin for our most beloved leagues across Europe, as MLS and Liga MX have started already. As the transfer market is still open we will not be giving final predictions of these leagues but rather our take on the current teams and leagues. Because is world news, we dive into a bit more on the event that happened last episode with the news of Messi not renewed at Barcelona, and the eventual PSG free transfer. Finally shout out to Superclub Board Game for a great product. We had a +3 hr game and after 4 seasons host Dan was the champion reaching 100 points. This is a game that combines the Football Manager mindset with the power of a board game. 100% recommended for anyone that likes the Beautiful Game and Board Games….. we will definitely be playing many times in the future as host Jaime will need to be able to have more than 2 wins in 4 seasons Beer of episode: Three Floyds Brewery Gumballhead, 5.6%, 35 IBU; Munster, IN Bourbon of episode: Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, 45.2% (90.4 proof); Versailles, KY. After a short two-week break of the boys of B3, we are back with another episode. This episode we will wrap up the Gold Cup of the Concacaf and the lessons learned about the tournament, the development of the sport in the area, and most importantly, the summer success of the US and the summer failures of Mexico teams. We also talk about the Olympic games........ specifically the football/soccer U23 games in Tokyo. For the women's, the favorites (at least in the US) got defeated in the semi at the hands of Canada. This would give the USWNT to play, and eventually win, for the bronze medal against Australia. For the Gold medal match, Canada and Sweden will be playing Friday August 6th to decide who will be new Olympic Gold medal squad. On the Men's side Mexico will fight for a bronze medal against the hosts Japan, and Brazil/Spain will play for Gold. To end the episode we talk about the surprising news that Lionel Messi will be a free agent and will not be signed as a FC Barcelona player. We are all now part of history of the beautiful game. This is truly unprecedented in more ways that we could imagine that will affect FC Barcelona, La Liga, Spanish Football as a product, and most of all Messi and the closure of his wonderful stewardship of the last of his kind of player. Life goes no, the club will move on, the fans will learn to accept it, and just hope FC Barcelona (when the time is right) be able to give Messi the send off he deserves and that Camp Nou is packed to give their thanks to their #10. Godspeed Lio, thank you for all the years in Barcelona, and for making the Beautiful game even more beautiful. We are wrapping up the Finals of Copa Europa and Copa America. England v Italy gave us a good Sunday game but far from the expectations. England's lack creativity found themselves up 1-0 in the 2nd minute, but as Italy settle into the game the game quickly move one-way and Italy was in full control of game. Argentina v Brazil gave us a bad Saturday game but exactly what we expected from these two countries. Brazil was looking to control the game but Argentina was closing all the channels and shutting down all transitions, while Argentina was sloppy in the final third; and with a brilliant pass from De Paul, or terrible mistake by Lodi, Di Maria score the only goal of the game. In the end the Football/Soccer Gods gave Messi his first senior trophy with Argentina, does this cement his 7th Ballon D'Or? Finally we come back to North America to where we have now seen all the teams play at least 1 game. Diving into the big teams, poor planning, and surprises for this Gold Cup. To end the episode we talk about the Mexico fans homophobic chant and the mess that it is, and the issues it will cost the Mexico Federation. Listen to the thoughts of both of us on this matter, but ultimately this NEEDS TO STOP IMMEDIATELY, and consequences need to be set to anyone doing this to set a precedent. Beer of episode: Quaff On! This Episode we talk about the semi-Finals of Copa Europa and Copa America and the Finals for both tournaments. Does Italy have what it takes to return to glory? Will the football/soccer Gods give Messi his first senior trophy with Argentina? Will the Olympic organization give Sterling high scores for his dive? Can we expect Colombia to forget about playing dirty and play to their potential? We have our second guest of the second season. Frank is Dan’s father in-law, he is Italian and we couldn’t be more excited about his team returning to the big stage. We finish this episode breaking down the upcoming Gold Cup.
