TNA's biggest event of the year, Bound For Glory, suffered from a profound and detrimental influence from WWE and NXT-style booking, resulting in a confusing, over-booked, and ultimately frustrating night of action. The pay-per-view, which should have been TNA's chance to shine, instead felt marred by questionable decisions, unnecessary complexity, and a lack of faith in its own roster and storytelling.Over-Exposed NXT Talent and Convoluted Finishes: The recurring presence of NXT talent—including TNA World Champion Trick Williams and Knockouts Champion Kelani Jordan—was a double-edged sword that mostly cut TNA.The TNA World Championship main event saw Mike Santana finally defeat Trick Williams, delivering a feel-good moment. However, the victory was immediately undermined by a convoluted post-match angle involving Call Your Shot co-winner Nic Nemeth attempting to cash in, only to be stopped by the return of Elijah (with a guitar!) and a run-in from the other co-winner, Frankie Kazarian. This messy sequence, reminiscent of overly-busy, chaotic WWE booking, diluted the impact of Santana's hard-earned win.The TNA X-Division Championship match between champion Leon Slater and NXT's Je'Von Evans was a stellar, high-paced contest until a disastrous finish. A 20-minute time-limit draw—a dated and anti-climactic WWE trope—was immediately followed by a five-minute sudden death, which then ended in a No Contest due to a run-in by the mysterious DarkState. The match's quality was sacrificed for a multi-layered, unsatisfying angle. The TNA Knockouts World Championship match saw Kelani Jordan retain against Indi Hartwell in a competent but ultimately forgettable bout, serving mainly as a showcase for more borrowed talent rather than TNA's unique women's division.Poorly Booked Marathons and Anti-Climaxes: Segments that should have been highlights were instead hobbled by poor execution and unnecessary twists. The 20-Person Intergender Call Your Shot Gauntlet was an overlong mess that devolved into another puzzling, messy finish. After mass eliminations, the match ended with a dual pinfall, resulting in Frankie Kazarian and Nic Nemeth being declared co-winners. The confusing "two winners" scenario—followed by a brawl over the trophy—epitomized the over-booked, indecisive style that plagued the show.Tessa Blanchard's match against announcer Gia Miller was dominated by heel antics and outside interference, culminating in a cheap, "shades of her father" finish with a handful of quarters. While delivering a predictable result, the execution felt tedious and over-reliant on the classic "dominant heel" formula. The nostalgia-driven "One Final Table" match saw The Hardys retain the TNA/NXT Tag Team titles against Team 3D. While the match served its purpose as an emotional farewell to Team 3D, the inclusion of a table that refused to break for a key spot, and the overall focus on a non-TNA act for one of the main attractions, felt like a missed opportunity to build newer stars.Bound For Glory ultimately felt like a company struggling to differentiate itself, caving to the influence of its broadcast partners and sacrificing clean finishes and definitive storytelling for the sake of forced complexity and shock value. The results left fans with a lingering sense of "bulls–t"—a direct and telling reflection of the night's flawed booking decisions.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
In the wake of WWE's high-profile pivot to streaming platforms like Netflix and ESPN, the company's business model has emerged as a paradoxical behemoth—raking in unprecedented revenue through lucrative media deals and inflated live event pricing, yet teetering on the brink of creative insolvency that alienates talent and fans alike. Since the Netflix era kicked off in January 2025 with the exclusive streaming of *Monday Night Raw*, WWE has positioned itself as a content powerhouse, securing a $5 billion, 10-year pact that promised global expansion and subscriber boosts for the streamer. However, beneath the glossy veneer of executive self-congratulation—evident in endless on-air hype that even drew fan ire for its obnoxiousness—lie mounting red flags: plummeting viewership metrics under new Nielsen scrutiny, exorbitant ticket prices sparking widespread backlash, a predatory absorption of its TNA partnership that's eroding the indie wrestling ecosystem, and a stumbling rollout of partnerships with Netflix and ESPN that underscore operational missteps. These intertwined issues paint a picture of a promotion creatively adrift, where short-term financial gains mask long-term vulnerabilities, potentially heralding WWE's slow-motion demise as audience fatigue and talent exodus accelerate. The Netflix transition, heralded as a revolutionary leap when announced in late 2024, has indeed delivered fiscal highs but stumbled out of the gate with technical glitches, content pacing woes, and unsubstantiated rumors of early cancellation that fueled online speculation. *Raw*'s January 6, 2025, premiere on the platform drew solid initial buzz, highlighted by CM Punk's triumphant return and a star-studded card referencing past glories like his Netflix-era victory over Seth Rollins. Yet, just months later, whispers of "WWE Raw CANCELLED On Netflix 2025" circulated amid reports of underwhelming global uptake outside North America, with Netflix executives privately addressing "potential streaming issues" like inconsistent international access and algorithm-driven discoverability problems. Compounding this, Netflix's option to exit after five years looms as a Sword of Damocles, especially as the platform leans heavily on WWE for 2025 subscriber growth in a saturated market, yet reports suggest internal debates over whether the deal's $500 million annual payout justifies the production headaches. No less turbulent has been WWE's accelerated ESPN partnership, fast-tracked to September 2025 and valued at $1.6 billion annually starting in 2026, which bundles all Premium Live Events (PLEs) into a $30/month direct-to-consumer streaming tier—a jarring hike from the prior $10 Peacock model that immediately ignited fan fury over perceived paywall hikes. The inaugural WrestlePalooza event in August 2025, meant to christen this alliance, instead drew scathing reviews, with ESPN deeming it "underwhelming" due to interminable gaps between matches filled with ads and redundant video packages, diluting the high-octane appeal of wrestling. These media stumbles dovetail with damning revelations from Nielsen's revamped "Big Data + Panel" methodology, rolled out in late 2025, which integrates data from 75 million devices and public venues to paint a bleaker picture of wrestling's TV footprint—excluding key streaming metrics like HBO Max for AEW but casting doubt on WWE's linear holdouts like *SmackDown* on USA Network. Financially, WWE's model gleams with avarice-fueled revenue: TKO Group Holdings, WWE's parent, reported soaring live event and hospitality income in Q2 2025, buoyed by dynamic pricing that has ballooned ticket costs to absurd heights—ringside seats at WrestlePalooza hitting $5,988 before fees, with baseline options starting at $173 for events like the upcoming Crown Jewel. TKO COO Mark Shapiro's unapologetic vow to "raise WWE ticket prices" has provoked a firestorm of backlash, with fans decrying it as "corporate greed" that prices out families, especially when juxtaposed against AEW's economical $15-$40 range. Perhaps the most insidious red flag is WWE's TNA partnership, ostensibly a collaborative boon via NXT crossovers but increasingly viewed as a cannibalistic ploy to plunder indie talent and IP. The October 7 NXT Showdown exemplified this: unification matches saw TNA's Hardy Boyz dethrone NXT's DarkState for the tag titles, while Survivor Series-style eliminations pitted NXT against TNA rosters in chaotic, betrayal-laced bouts (Team TNA edging out in the men's via Moose's miscues; NXT women prevailing amid Jordynne Grace's referee distractions). As Crown Jewel looms with its cross-brand clashes and international flair—Rhodes-Rollins for supremacy, Vaquer-Stratton elevating women's divisions, Reigns-Reed's brutal street fight promising visceral highs—the event feels like a microcosm of WWE's wavering direction: a $500 million Netflix lifeline propping up a creatively bankrupt edifice, where skyrocketing prices and Nielsen nosedives erode goodwill, TNA's slow devouring starves the ecosystem, and ESPN's teething pains expose integration flaws. Fans, once loyal through Attitude Era grit, now grapple with a product that's monetized to exhaustion, its stories recycling tropes (family betrayals, ego duels) without the spark of reinvention. If unaddressed, these fissures—substantiated by talent departures, metric meltdowns, and partnership pitfalls—herald not just stagnation, but a potential implosion, rendering WWE's financial empire a hollow shell in an era demanding authenticity over avarice. The clock ticks toward obsolescence unless a seismic creative overhaul restores the soul to this soulless machine.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
WWE's NXTNA—a snarky shorthand for the NXT-TNA-AAA mashup—smells like a calculated middle finger to AEW, cloaked in cross-promotional chaos. Ricky Starks, rebranded as Ricky Saints, went from AEW's midcard darling to NXT's dual-title kingpin in six months, snagging the North American belt from Shawn Spears in April and toppling Oba Femi for the NXT Championship at No Mercy. NoDQ.com crowed the Femi match as WWE's "F.U." to AEW, spinning a supposed jobber into a titan.Never mind Starks' AEW resume—wins over CM Punk, Jericho, FTR for tag gold, the 2023 Owen Hart tourney, and 2022's World Title Eliminator and Dynamite Dozen Battle Royal. Jobber? Hardly. WWE's just rewriting history to dunk on Tony Khan. Then there's the "Invasion" fiasco. Naming an NXT-TNA clash on October 7—anniversary of the 2023 Hamas attacks—sparked outrage in Israel, with outlets like Israel Hayom slamming WWE's "preposterous" A quick rebrand to "Showdown" doused the fire, but the blunder screams careless empire.Meanwhile, NXTNA's real game is counterprogramming AEW, with Khan shrugging it off to Going Ringside: "Tough competition makes us work harder. AEW's 2025 ratings and streaming surge suggest he’s not sweating it.Elsewhere, MLW's Cesar Duran took a swing at WWE's Saudi "blood money" deals at Fury Road, while Salina de la Renta hyped their "choose violence" ethos.TNA's Santino Marella, meanwhile, dreams big, telling Lucha Libre Online that a TV deal could vault TNA to number two, fan-driven over Khan's deep pockets. Good luck catching WWE's juggernaut, though—Marella admits it’s untouchable.NXTNA's a bloated flex, recycling talent and rivalries while tripping over its own hubris. Starks shines, but the real story is WWE's shameless chess game—global missteps and all—against a scrappy field that’s punching back.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
WWE’s much-hyped WrestlePalooza, the first Premium Live Event (PLE) streamed on ESPN Unlimited, landed with a thud, earning a scathing “C” grade from ESPN combat sports writer Andreas Hale. The Indianapolis event, meant to kick off WWE’s blockbuster five-year, $325 million deal with ESPN, promised “epic moments” and "surprises" but delivered a lackluster card that left fans and critics underwhelmed. Hale praised the Women’s World Championship match between Stephanie Vaquer and IYO SKY as the sole highlight, while slamming the Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena opener and the Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre main event .WWE’s broader strategy isn’t faring much better. In a desperate bid to counterprogram against AEW’s growing momentum, WWE has leaned heavily into international partnerships and nostalgic angles, but the results are falling flat. The company’s tampering with Mexico’s AAA promotion saw Dominik Mysterio controversially crowned the new AAA Mega Champion, a move that stirred resentment among lucha libre fans for its heavy-handed WWE influence. Similarly, Natalya’s eventual crowning as AAA’s Reina de Reinas, while a nod to her veteran status, feels like another attempt to leverage WWE’s global reach without addressing core creative issues. Meanwhile, WWE’s collaboration with TNA and NXT has sparked rumors of an “invasion angle” reminiscent of the 2001 WCW/ECW storyline, with NXT and TNA talent reportedly set to cross paths in a bid to recapture that era’s chaotic energy. However, wrestling insiders note this recycled concept risks alienating modern fans who crave originality over rehashed nostalgia.None of these maneuvers have made a dent in AEW’s momentum. Despite WWE’s aggressive counterprogramming, AEW continues to maintain viewership and critical praise, with recent events like *AEW All Out* earning high marks for delivering consistent in-ring quality and fresh storylines. Posts on X reflect growing fan frustration with WWE’s direction, pointing to overpriced PLE tickets—exacerbated by the company’s pivot to overseas markets like Australia for *Crown Jewel*—and lackluster TV tapings that are struggling to fill arenas. WrestlePalooza’s failure to deliver, coupled with these strategic missteps, has fans questioning whether WWE’s global ambitions and counterprogramming gambits are backfiring, leaving the company scrambling to regain its footing against a nimble AEW. As Hale noted, “the best is yet to come” may be WWE’s hope, but for now, the company’s playbook is looking more like a recipe for mediocrity than a path to reclaiming wrestling supremacy.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
AEW All Out 2025 delivered a stacked card with five championship matches, intense stipulation bouts, and the emergence of new stars. Headlined by AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page defending his title against TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher.“The Protostar,” stepped into the spotlight as a main event contender, challenging Hangman Adam Page for the AEW World Championship. Fletcher’s performance, however, showcased his potential as a top-tier talent, earning praise for his intensity and signaling his arrival as a future cornerstone of AEW. The match capped off a night that highlighted both established stars and rising prospects, with Toronto’s passionate crowd amplifying the electric atmosphereIn a stunning upset, Kris Statlander emerged as the new AEW Women’s World Champion, defeating “Timeless” Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, and Thekla in a chaotic four-way match. Other notable matches included Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, Toronto’s hometown heroes, overcoming FTR in a grudge match that played on their storied history. Eddie Kingston marked his return with a victory over Big Bill, while Mark Briscoe defeated MJF in a brutal Tables ‘n’ Tacks Match. The AEW Unified Championship saw Kazuchika Okada retain his title against Mascara Dorada and Konosuke Takeshita, and Jon Moxley bested Darby Allin in a dramatic Coffin Match. The night also featured Brodido retaining the AEW World Tag Team Championships in a thrilling four-way ladder match and Mercedes Moné defending her TBS Championship against Riho. At WWE Wrestlepalooza, all I can see are ads. More sponsors on the mat including Papa John's, Chime, Riyadh Season Fireball Whisky, Xfinity, Slim Jim, Old Spice Minute Maid, Aviator, Cricket 5G and VeBetter. Aside from the match match match you can see the obvious overhead shots of the Ring to make sure you can see the ad placement. I expect this on a $80 boxing pay with you but then you have the ads in between matches to go with your $30 subscription of ESPN. John Cena is ultimately squashed by Brock Lesnar in the second phase of his retirement tour and Bron Bron beat the Usos, followed by a simpfest for Stephanie Vaquer who won the women's world championship in a rare title change. We look into the intersection of corporate influence and creative execution within WWE's programming. The "Match Match Match" podcast trope is used to critique what is described as "inferior improv" and "corporate suffocation of creative," leading to generic and uninspired storylines. This is exemplified by a "tedious" go-home promo for a mixed-tag team match involving CM Punk & AJ Lee against Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch. Meanwhile, this creative direction coincides with a significant new partnership between WWE and ESPN. A media call with ESPN executives Matt Kenny and JT Lasker took place ahead of the Wrestlepalooza Premium Live Event, which will be the first WWE event to stream exclusively on the ESPN app. The executives expressed excitement about the deal and, according to multiple news outlets, are open to adding more WWE Premium Live Events to their schedule in the future. The new partnership aims to integrate WWE further into mainstream sports coverage.WWE Wrestlepalooza marks a new era as the first Premium Live Event to stream on ESPN. Taking place at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, the card features several high-profile matches with major storylines. The main event features a long-awaited mixed tag team match as two of wrestling's most iconic couples collide: Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch taking on CM Punk and the returning AJ Lee. The rivalry between Rollins and Punk has been simmering for months, and with the surprising return of AJ Lee, this mixed tag team match is poised to be an all-out battle.Another major bout on the card is the highly anticipated showdown between John Cena and Brock Lesnar. This is billed as one of the final matches on Cena's retirement tour, and the feud was ignited when Lesnar made a shocking return to attack Cena after his loss to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam. The Undisputed WWE Championship will also be on the line as Cody Rhodes defends his title against Drew McIntyre, who has been a thorn in the champion's side. Additionally, a new Women's World Champion will be crowned when Iyo Sky battles Stephanie Vaquer for the vacant title, which was recently relinquished by Naomi.AEW All Out 2025 will be held at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and features a card filled with intense rivalries and high-stakes championship matches. "Hangman" Adam Page will defend the AEW World Championship against Kyle Fletcher in a highly anticipated main event. The AEW Women's World Championship will be contested in a four-way match as "Timeless" Toni Storm puts her title on the line against Jamie Hayter, Kris Statlander, and Thekla.Other notable matches on the card include a Coffin Match between Jon Moxley and Darby Allin, a feud that has been brewing for nearly a year. The AEW TBS Championship will also be on the line when Mercedes Moné defends her title against Riho.In a tag team grudge match, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage will reunite in their hometown to face off against FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler). Also confirmed for the event is a singles match between MJF and Mark Briscoe, adding another layer of drama to a stacked card.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
WWE made a controversial announcement that WrestleMania 43 in 2027 will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This marks the first time WWE's flagship event will be hosted outside of North America, and it's a decision that has sent shockwaves through the fan base. The move, which is reportedly part of a massive new deal that includes the 2027 Royal Rumble and at least one other major event in the same year, is a clear signal of TKO Group Holdings' focus on maximizing global revenue, with reports suggesting these events could earn the company upwards of $50 million each night. The outrage is palpable, with many fans feeling that WWE is "selling out" and prioritizing huge sums of money from foreign governments over the traditional fan base that has supported the company for decades. This sentiment is amplified by comments from TKO COO Mark Shapiro at the recent Communacopia tech conference, where he spoke candidly about a new strategy to maximize "ticket yield" and raise prices, further alienating fans who feel they are being priced out of attending live events.Compounding the corporate-driven controversies are recent creative and talent-related developments that have left a bitter taste in fans' mouths. The Friday night AAA Worlds Collide event, a crossover show with WWE, saw the promotion's top prizes go to two of WWE's most polarizing figures: Dominik Mysterio and Natalya. This mirrored the recent success of Trick Williams and Jacy Jayne in the promotion, leading to frustration from a fan base that feels a handful of "chosen" stars are being force-fed to them. Finally, the recent and sudden release of Andrade has added fuel to the fire. The talented star's departure has left many fans fuming, especially given his recent return to the company and his lack of television time. This move, combined with Triple H's own recent comments about the "internet following" not being "real life," has created a deep chasm between the company's leadership and its most vocal supporters. The collective frustration over the WrestleMania announcement, the rising ticket costs, the perceived favoritism in inter-promotional partnerships, and the perplexing talent release of Andrade, has created an environment where fans feel unheard and unvalued in the TKO era of WWE.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
In the face of historically low wrestling ratings and a strategic gamble with Raw's start time, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H is being cast as a master manipulator, deftly using the "juvenile delusional fandom" as putty in his hands. Rather than a genuine philosophical shift toward transparency, his public defense of the WWE: Unreal docuseries is portrayed as a calculated mind trick. He cleverly called out the hypocrisy of podcasters and online critics who consume backstage gossip, while simultaneously giving them exactly what they crave: the illusion of having the curtain pulled back. By providing a sanctioned glimpse into the business, he both validates their obsessive interest and maintains control over the narrative, making them feel special and "in the know" without actually relinquishing any real power. This sophisticated form of fan manipulation is further evidenced by the highly marketable WRESTLEPALOOZA 2025 card. The event is a perfect example of molding fan desires into reality, featuring a dream match that pits Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch against CM Punk and the returning AJ Lee.The return of AJ Lee is framed as a key part of this grand deception, with her prancing around as their agent of healing. Her powerful and emotional quote about her mental health journey and turning "mental chaos into my superpower" is seen not as a genuine moment of vulnerability, but as a carefully curated narrative deployed to garner positive press and connect with a specific, emotionally invested segment of the fanbase. Her comeback provides the perfect feel-good story to distract from broader business challenges, proving that Triple H's genius lies not in his creative vision, but in his ability to give the fans the specific kind of "authenticity" they believe they want.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
WWE Smackdown pulled out all the stops with "hot shot" booking to set the stage for their upcoming Wrestlepalooza event. The surprise return of AJ Lee, who came to the aid of her husband, CM Punk, in a heated confrontation with Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch. While the toxic portion of the WWE fandom is ecstatic over Lee's comeback, gloating online about how it proves WWE's superiority over a struggling AEW brand that is reportedly seeing its TV ratings and viewership numbers sink to record lows, her return is ultimately a red herring. It's designed to generate a quick, immediate buzz to distract from the real long-term narrative. The real story of the night, which will have a more lasting impact leading into Wrestlepalooza, was the shocking return of Brock Lesnar. He brutally attacked John Cena, who had just delivered a heartfelt retirement-tour speech and was engaged in a fantastic United States Championship match with Sami Zayn. Lesnar's assault on Cena not only ended the match in a no-contest but immediately set up a massive, high-profile bout between the two at Wrestlepalooza, confirming the match for the premium live event. The rest of the show furthered other key storylines, with Aleister Black defeating Damian Priest and Giulia retaining her WWE Women's United States Championship against Michin, but the focus remains squarely on the CM Punk/Becky Lynch and John Cena/Brock Lesnar feuds heading into the major event in two weeks.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
Time to dissect the latest chapter in the WWE bullying tactics to counter AEW, arguing that WWE's decision to counter-program AEW All Out with their new ESPN-backed Wrestlepalooza event was a major unforced error. This move, driven by a clear case of "Tony Khan derangement syndrome," aimed to disrupt AEW's business but instead provided them with the perfect opportunity to make a brilliant strategic pivot. We break down how AEW not only sidestepped a pointless head-to-head conflict by moving their event to an earlier time but also leveraged the situation to secure a groundbreaking pay-per-view deal with HBO Max. This maneuver not only validates AEW's business model but also highlights their focus on long-term growth over petty rivalries.Adding a new layer of context, WWE's Wrestlepalooza will debut on the new ESPN direct-to-consumer streaming service at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 20. However, AEW's switch to a 3 p.m. ET start time for All Out strategically positions them to avoid a direct conflict and leaves WWE in competition with the most-watched time slot in sports: primetime college football. On that very evening, WWE will be vying for eyeballs against significant matchups on the ESPN family of networks and other major platforms, including Auburn at Oklahoma, Illinois vs. Indiana, and Miami vs. FloridaThese games, along with numerous other televised college football matchups, present a formidable challenge to WWE's attempt to make a splash on their new platform, highlighting the shortsightedness of their booking decision.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
The Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns, secured a decisive victory over Bronson Reed. The Wyatt Sicks, with the eerie presence of Uncle Howdy, successfully defended their WWE Tag Team Championship against The Street Profits.Becky Lynch, emerged victorious, retaining her WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship against Nikki Bella. Later in the evening, in a crucial Fatal four-way match for the World Heavyweight Championship, Seth Rollins retained his title. The win came with a twist, in the true style of Bonnie and Clyde Becky helped Rollins defeat CM Punk to retain. The competition between WWE and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has been characterized by what many consider to be a series of petty and anti-competitive actions, particularly on the part of WWE. This approach appears to be rooted in a desire to prevent any competitor from reaching the level of success once achieved by WCW, which forced WWE to work harder and innovate. The modern-day parallel of this rivalry extends from the top corporate level down to the fan base.Corporate Anti-CompetitionThe business tactics of WWE and its parent company, TKO, have been described as intentionally disruptive. Reports suggest that WWE has scheduled its own premium live events (PLEs) on the same weekends as major AEW pay-per-views, a strategy seen as an attempt to undercut their competitor and divide the audience. This move is allegedly aimed at monopolizing the market, which would allow WWE to dictate prices for its products and, as seen with TKO's other assets like the UFC, potentially reduce wrestler salaries by minimizing the need for competitive compensation. A protest by a stagehands union outside an AEW event, alleging that workers were being paid below standard rates, further highlights the economic tensions within the industry. While AEW has distanced itself from the protest, this incident draws attention to the broader struggles over worker compensation and unionization in professional wrestling, an area that could be affected by a lack of genuine competition.Fanbase and Body ShamingThe rivalry's pettiness is not limited to corporate boardrooms; it has also seeped into the fanbases. Fans of both companies, particularly those who are highly loyal to WWE, have engaged in what is described as "juvenile" and "delusional" behavior. A prime example of this is the body shaming directed at AEW wrestlers. One AEW star recently opened up about facing "ruthless" body-shaming comments from fans, highlighting how this online harassment goes beyond typical wrestling critiques. This behavior stands in stark contrast to AEW's reported efforts to support its talent, which includes offering a tuition reimbursement program to wrestlers. This benefit is a significant step toward providing performers with long-term stability and is considered a rarity within the wrestling industry, showcasing a different corporate philosophy.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
AEW Forbidden Door London highlighted MJF and "Timeless" Toni Storm as top main event stars through stellar booking. MJF’s gripping AEW World Championship loss to "Hangman" Adam Page showcased his magnetic presence, while Toni Storm’s submission win over Athena for the AEW Women’s World Championship reinforced her dominance. Beyond the intense Lights Out Steel Cage main event, where Golden Lovers, Darby Allin, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Will Ospreay defeated Death Riders, The Young Bucks, and Gabe Kidd, most championship matches—like Kyle Fletcher’s TNT title defense, Mercedes Moné’s TBS four-way, Zack Sabre Jr.’s IWGP title bout, Kazuchika Okada’s Unified Championship win, and BrodiDo’s tag title victory—served as exhibition-style showcases, emphasizing AEW’s global star power over deep storytelling, with MJF and Storm shining brightest.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
WWE's recent maneuvers suggest a calculated strategy to dominate the industry, often at the expense of fostering genuine growth or collaboration. Under the leadership of Triple H and with TKO Group's backing, WWE has been accused of leveraging its resources to undermine rivals like AEW, while exerting influence over smaller promotions such as AAA and TNA. This approach not only involves aggressive counter-programming but also subtle digs that appeal to a segment of the fanbase thrives on tribalism and schadenfreude. Critics argue that these tactics—rooted in pettiness—risk alienating broader audiences and stifling innovation, as WWE prioritizes short-term wins over long-term industry health. The spread of this mindset from WWE management to podcasts hosted by former wrestlers (often with conflicts of interest) and fan commentators has amplified a toxic narrative, where success is measured by how much one can diminish competitors rather than elevate the sport.A prime example of WWE's influence peddling is its recent acquisition of Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA, announced in April 2025 during WrestleMania in partnership with Mexico-based company Fillip. This move marked a significant shift for AAA, with the Peña family retaining involvement but WWE taking a heavy hand in operations. The first major event under this new regime, TripleMania XXXIII on August 17, 2025, at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, showcased WWE's fingerprints: 16 WWE Superstars appeared on the card, including cross-promotional matches where WWE talent challenged for AAA titles. The event shattered records, drawing 19,691 attendees (AAA's all-time gate high) and over 4 million viewers in the first 24 hours across WWE and AAA's YouTube channels in English and Spanish, with a peak concurrent audience of 614,000.However, not all records are undisputed—lucha libre analyst Luchablog has refuted some claims, arguing that WWE's involvement stabilized AAA but hasn't truly surpassed historical popularity peaks, suggesting inflated metrics to justify the acquisition.WWE's changes extend beyond the ring, with plans for a new AAA logo by year's end and Triple H publicly assuring talent that the goal is to "enhance" rather than overhaul, though the heavy WWE presence at TripleMania—including a victory by a WWE-affiliated star underscoring dominance—paints a picture of absorption rather than partnership.WWE's aggression toward AEW has escalated into blatant counter-programming, seemingly designed to disrupt AEW's momentum and complicate its TV contract negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery. This tactic traces back to AEW's initial "counter-punching" in the late 2010s and early 2020s, but WWE has ramped it up in 2025 as a "company directive."Notable instances include scheduling NXT events against AEW's Forbidden Door in June and multiple shows (NXT Great American Bash, Saturday Night's Main Event, and Evolution) during AEW All In: Texas weekend in July, leading to poor ticket sales for WWE's Evolution and drawing criticism for diluting its own product. The pattern continues with a last-minute Premium Live Event (PLE) addition on September 20, 2025—dubbed Wrestlepalooza—at Indianapolis' Gainbridge Fieldhouse, directly opposing AEW All Out in Toronto. This event, streaming on ESPN's new direct-to-consumer service (launching August 21, 2025), features high-profile stars like John Cena (in his last Indianapolis appearance), Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, CM Punk, and Drew McIntyre, positioning it as a star-studded draw to siphon viewers.AEW President Tony Khan has responded defiantly, viewing it as validation of AEW's threat, while insiders note the goal isn't to convert AEW fans but to fragment attention and weaken AEW's bargaining power for future deals.Complementing this, WWE's multi-year Peacock deal revives Saturday Night’s Main Event four times annually, with 2025 editions on November 1 and December 13 (featuring Cena's retirement match), ensuring consistent high-profile content that could overlap with AEW scheduling. WWE's NXT library remains on Peacock through March 2026, with SmackDown on a 30-day delay, bolstering its streaming dominance.WWE's treatment of TNA (now rebranded but still airing Impact) exemplifies the "pushing around" of smaller promotions, blending collaboration with condescension. NXT star Trick Williams, after capturing the TNA World Championship, has been seen wearing the belt upside down—a deliberate statement, as explained on NXT commentary, symbolizing how he "turned the company upside down. This visual has sparked backlash for disrespecting TNA's legacy, especially amid ongoing crossovers. Behind the scenes, WWE is reportedly pushing TNA to shift Impact to Wednesday nights, directly head-to-head with AEW Dynamite, as part of TNA's media rights negotiations potentially landing on a "WWE-associated" network. WWE holds an option to buy TNA outright, fueling speculation that this is a proxy war to erode AEW's viewership without direct confrontation. This pettiness has permeated wrestling discourse, with management appeasing vocal fans through subtle jabs on programming and podcasts. Former WWE stars, often under NDAs or with lingering ties, echo anti-AEW sentiments, while fan commentators exploit grudges for clicks. As WWE expands its empire—via ESPN for PLEs like Crown Jewel (October 11) and Survivor Series (November 29), plus major events like WrestleMania on the DTC service—the question remains: Is this dominance building wrestling's future, or merely pandering to a petty faction at the cost of collective progress?AEW Forbidden Door London is this Sunday, with several major championships and a highly anticipated Lights Out Steel Cage match set to electrify fans. The main event will see a collision between two of the biggest stars in the company as "Hangman" Adam Page defends his AEW World Championship against Maxwell Jacob Friedman, with the title even able to change hands by countout or disqualification, adding to the intensity. In a chaotic Lights Out Steel Cage match, the Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi) will team with Darby Allin, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Will Ospreay to take on the combined force of the Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley), The Young Bucks, and Gabe Kidd.A number of other titles are also on the line, including the AEW Unified Championship, where reigning champion Kazuchika Okada will put his title on the line against the formidable Swerve Strickland. The AEW World Tag Team Championship will be decided in a high-stakes three-way elimination match between The Hurt Syndicate, Brodido, and FTR. Additionally, "Timeless" Toni Storm will defend her AEW Women's World Championship against Athena, who earned her title opportunity in the Casino Gauntlet. Mercedes Moné will defend her AEW TBS Championship in a four-way match against Alex Windsor, Persephone, and Bozilla, while Kyle Fletcher will put his AEW TNT Championship on the line against Hiromu Takahashi, and Zack Sabre Jr. will defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Nigel McGuinness. The night will also feature a thrilling tag team match as the team of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage battles Killswitch and Kip Sabian. AAA's Triplemania 33 event as one of the year's best wrestling shows, highlighting its use of over-the-top, character-driven performances. Memorable moments included the match between Omos and Microman and a puppet version of Finn Bálor's "Demon" character. The speaker suggests that WWE, under Triple H's leadership, could benefit from adopting AAA's "make-believe," campy, and fun approach to storytelling to energize its own product. While some WWE stars participated, the crossover with AAA's style highlights a need for more "pageantry" and "showmanship" in mainstream wrestling. These creative elements are what fans, including the "juvenile delusional fandom," truly enjoy.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
KOP argues that the TKO Group's business strategy, which combines the assets of WWE and UFC, is focused on securing maximum television and streaming dominance at the expense of talent and competition. New UFC Deal with Paramount+We look at the recent, historic seven-year, $7.7 billion media rights deal between TKO Group and Paramount for UFC content, beginning in 2026. This agreement is seen as a major power play, as it moves all UFC numbered events and Fight Nights exclusively to Paramount+. This move effectively ends the previous pay-per-view model, making all UFC events available to Paramount+ subscribers at no extra cost. The commentary suggests this massive deal not only secures a dominant position for UFC on a major streaming platform but also gives TKO significant leverage and influence in the sports entertainment landscape. This is presented as a clear example of TKO's strategy to consolidate its market position and drive subscriber growth for its media partners, further solidifying its "TV domination."WWE Parting Ways with Karrion KrossKOP highlights the release of Karrion Kross and Scarlett as an example of "Kicking Out Talent." Following weeks of speculation, both Kross and Scarlett confirmed their departure from WWE. The commentary suggests that this decision was a result of Kross's creative frustrations and a breakdown in contract renegotiations. Kross himself reportedly expressed disappointment with his creative direction and revealed that he had been in discussions with the company about a new contract since January. His release, especially given his recent main roster run and past success in NXT, is framed as a talent-relations issue under the TKO banner, where performers who are not seen as part of the long-term plan or who express dissatisfaction are released, regardless of their potential.WWE's Counter-Programming StrategyWWE, under TKO, continues to be actively engaging in "Intimidating Opposition" by strategically scheduling major events to directly compete with AEW's pay-per-views. Two specific instances are detailed: * AEW All Out vs. WWE PLE: WWE is reportedly planning a premium live event (PLE) to air on the same night as AEW's All Out. The rumored main event for this WWE show is a high-profile matchup between John Cena and Brock Lesnar, a move clearly intended to draw viewers away from AEW's event. This aggressive scheduling is seen as a direct challenge to AEW's business model and a demonstration of TKO's willingness to use its biggest stars to stifle competition. They also plan a similar tactic for AEW's Worlds End event. Reports indicate that discussions are underway for John Cena's final match to be held on a "Saturday Night Main Event," running head-to-head with Worlds End. This would be a major blow to AEW, as John Cena's retirement match would undoubtedly attract a massive audience and media attention, potentially overshadowing AEW's show entirely. This is presented as the ultimate form of "intimidation," using a once-in-a-lifetime event to cripple a competitor's major show.In summary, the commentary paints a picture of TKO Group Holdings as a ruthless and calculating entity focused on maximizing its market share through strategic media deals and aggressive competitive tactics. In a landmark move for professional wrestling, WWE, under the umbrella of TKO Group Holdings, has secured a five-year, $1.625 billion media rights agreement with ESPN, positioning the sports entertainment giant’s Premium Live Events (PLEs) on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming platform starting in 2026. This deal, valued at an average of $325 million annually, marks a significant shift from WWE’s current streaming partnership with NBCUniversal’s Peacock, which expires in March 2026 and was valued at $180-$200 million per year. The agreement, which includes marquee events like WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and Money in the Bank, will see all 10 annual PLEs stream exclusively on ESPN’s DTC service in the U.S., with select events simulcast on ESPN’s linear networks. This transition not only elevates WWE’s domestic reach but also underscores TKO’s strategic prowess in securing high-value media deals with the “worldwide leader in sports,” amplifying WWE’s mainstream legitimacy and global expansion.A key advantage for fans is the deal’s accessibility for cable and satellite subscribers who already receive ESPN as part of their TV package. These subscribers will likely be able to authenticate their existing subscriptions to access the ESPN DTC platform at no additional cost, mitigating the impact of the platform’s $29.99 monthly price tag—a steep increase from Peacock’s $10.99-$16.99 plans. This authentication model ensures that millions of households (ESPN is available in approximately 72 million homes compared to Peacock’s 36 million subscribers) can seamlessly transition to watching WWE’s biggest events without incurring extra fees, potentially broadening the audience reach. However, fans without cable subscriptions face a significant cost hike, sparking debate on social media about affordability, especially for those solely interested in wrestling content.TKO’s orchestration of this billion-dollar deal with ESPN highlights its formidable deal-making ability and strategic vision for WWE’s global growth. Led by executives like TKO President and COO Mark Shapiro, a former ESPN executive, and WWE President Nick Khan, the company has leveraged WWE’s passionate fanbase and proven subscriber loyalty to secure a 78% increase in value over the Peacock deal. This partnership aligns WWE with ESPN’s prestigious brand, reinforcing the “E” in ESPN (Entertainment and Sports Programming Network) and positioning WWE alongside other major sports properties like UFC, which has thrived under ESPN’s umbrella. The deal enhances WWE’s mainstream credibility, tapping into ESPN’s marketing and distribution power to attract casual sports fans and expand its audience on a national scale. Combined with WWE’s existing $5 billion, 10-year Netflix deal for Monday Night Raw and international PLEs, and other agreements with The CW (NXT) and NBCUniversal (SmackDown), TKO has crafted a robust media portfolio that cements WWE’s place in the mainstream entertainment landscape. The deal’s timing, coinciding with the launch of ESPN’s DTC platform on August 21, 2025, further amplifies its strategic significance, as WWE’s high-profile events are expected to drive subscriptions and bolster ESPN’s streaming ambitions. However, while TKO’s business acumen shines, the deal does not address ongoing concerns about WWE’s creative and in-ring operations. Under Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE’s storytelling has faced criticism for lacking urgency and failing to develop complex, compelling narratives. Fans and analysts have pointed to mishandled storylines, such as the Roman Reigns–The Rock WrestleMania buildup, The Rock’s recent arc, and John Cena’s heel turn, as evidence of creative missteps. At a time when fans will pay up to three times more for PLEs on ESPN’s platform, expectations for high-quality booking and innovative character development are heightened. The absence of clarity on the future of WWE’s extensive archival content—currently a cornerstone of Peacock’s offering—further fuels uncertainty, as neither ESPN nor WWE has confirmed whether the vast library of past matches and shows will be included in the DTC deal. This lack of transparency, coupled with a nearly 3% dip in TKO’s stock price post-announcement, suggests investor and fan skepticism about whether WWE’s creative team can deliver a product worthy of the premium price and platform. In summary, WWE’s $1.625 billion deal with ESPN marks a pivotal moment for sports entertainment, showcasing TKO’s ability to secure lucrative partnerships that enhance WWE’s global reach and mainstream appeal. The deal’s benefits for cable subscribers and its alignment with ESPN’s streaming goals position WWE for significant growth, but the creative team’s ability to address fan dissatisfaction and deliver captivating storylines will be critical to justifying the increased cost and maintaining audience loyalty in this new era.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcastsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
In a night of unexpected turns and high-stakes championship matches, Cody Rhodes emerged victorious over John Cena in a brutal street fight for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The night also saw Naomi successfully defend her Women's World Championship in a triple-threat match against Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky, replicating the surprise pinfall strategy used at a previous event. The Wyatt Sicks, consisting of Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy, retained their WWE Tag Team Championship in a chaotic Six-Pack Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match. Despite the involvement of women and a high-energy performance, some teams like Motor City Machine Guns, Fraxiom, and #DIY received a subdued reaction from the crowd. The event featured many tables being broken, much to the delight of the sponsor, Slim Jim.In a "Last Chance" match, Becky Lynch defeated Lyra Valkyria for the WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship, meaning Valkyria can no longer challenge for the title while Lynch is champion. The match's intense resistance from Valkyria, including surviving a zip tie and a monkey wrench attack, led some to question the realism of her character's resilience, especially after her continued push was challenged by the appearance of Bayley. The event's other championship matches saw Solo Sikoa defeat Jacob Fatu in a Steel Cage match for the WWE United States Championship, with an uncharacteristically small cage being used. Dominik Mysterio also successfully defended his WWE Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles. There were several significant moments that were missed on camera, including Fatu breaking his handcuffs, Mysterio hitting a boot, and Valkyria putting Becky through a table. SummerSlam 2025 starts up following a plot twist in a highly anticipated rematch between two of WWE's biggest stars: the returning hero John Cena and the "American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes. The main event of SummerSlam Night 1 saw CM Punk dethrone Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. The celebration was short-lived, however, as Seth Rollins, who had won the Money in the Bank contract, appeared with his briefcase. "They spent less than 10 minutes in the writer's room". Netflix’s WWE: Unreal docuseries may have promised to pull back the curtain on the larger-than-life world of professional wrestling—but it also unintentionally revealed just how thin that curtain really is. Across multiple episodes and interviews, what stands out most is not just the backstage access or production secrets, but the shocking admission that WWE’s writing process often consists of planning by booking committee with no ownership, except for a small inner circle of executives making major calls while agents and producers scramble to fill in the gaps on the fly.Director Chris Weaver, a self-proclaimed wrestling outsider, learned about key industry practices like “blading” on set and was denied access to crucial behind-the-scenes moments—such as John Cena's long-rumored heel turn. His lack of familiarity with wrestling lore only further highlights the chaotic storytelling structure of WWE, where story arcs are created with little long-term foresight and often reactively shaped by day-to-day backstage politics. While fans and critics alike praise Unreal for its raw look at WWE's inner workings, the documentary inadvertently confirms what many wrestling purists have feared: WWE has no real storyline roadmap. Beyond a select few execs micromanaging key decisions, most matches and promos are coordinated last-minute by agents and talent with minimal direction. This improvisational style may keep things flexible, but it also leads to disjointed storytelling and creative stagnation—an industry built on drama but devoid of narrative discipline.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcastsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wrestling-is-real-wrestling-podcast--1559158/support.Contact KOP for professional podcast production, imaging, and web design services at http://www.kingofpodcasts.comSupport KOP by subscribing to his YouTube channel and search for King Of PodcastsFollow KOP on X and TikTok @kingofpodcasts (F Meta!)Listen to KOP’s other programs, Podcasters Row… and the Wrestling is Real Wrestling Podcast and The Broadcasters Podcast.Buy KOP a Coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=3TAB983ZQPNVLDrop KOP a Venmo https://account.venmo.com/u/kingofpodcastsDrop KOP a CashApp https://cash.app/$kingofallpodcasts
