According to Jesus, one of the ways we should love God is with our minds. This is why we offer Christian Ed classes throughout the year. From preschool on up, these classes are cover a wide range of biblical texts, theological concepts, and current issues from a biblical perspective.

 CASKET-EMPTY continues with S-Sinai. The Israelites enter the Promised Land under Joshua, finally realizing the promises of land and descendants made to Abraham. Throughout the first four hundred years in the land, the people follow God when they have a leader but fall away when he or she dies. This is the second of three sessions addressing the question, "How did we get our Bible?"  Topics for this week are: The Bible is said to be "inerrant." What does this mean? Methods used by ancient scribes to accurately copy the Scriptures. The vast collection of ancient Biblical manuscripts available to scholars today, with a focus on several key manuscripts. A brief glance at the art of 'textual criticism' -- a technique used by scholars to identify the original wording of ancient texts -- and how this can bolster our confidence in the Bibles we read every day. Starting in week 5, we will return to the CASKET-EMPTY curriculum and begin our survey of the entire Bible. 
This is the first of three sessions addressing the question, "How did we get our Bible?"  Topics this week include:The Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) -- its history, content, reception by the early Church, and transmission over time.The ApocryphaThe New TestamentThe translation of the Bible into Latin by Jerome - the VulgateStarting in week 5, we will return to the CASKET-EMPTY curriculum and begin our survey of the entire Bible.
