Description

Jeffrey Epstein described himself as “radioactive”, and then he died in prison. But right before that, he was a friend and confidant of many of America’s most powerful politicians, billionaires, and entertainers, some of whom apparently shared a common interest: trafficking underaged girls. In "BROKEN: JEFFREY EPSTEIN" host Ariel Levy (The New Yorker) and Special Correspondent and Executive Producer Julie K. Brown (The Miami Herald) tell the full story of Epstein, his accomplices, and the broken systems that enabled his crimes.

You might be led to believe this is about Epstein's death.... well, they discuss conditions in jail (spoiler: they are not the best). They talk about the crack epidemic at length. They talk about how crowded jails are and Bill Clinton's impact on that... they bring it all home by talking about racial injustices in our judicial system. They bring up Epstein again in the last 5 min but just parrot what was said earlier. My advice, if you are like me and had the crazy thought that you might learn something new about the Epstein suicide in this episode, is to listen to the first part of the episode but keep your expectations low.

why make this your soapbox for letting criminals go free. look at California to see the future of that. say hi to your friend George Soros as he puts his progressive attorney generals in office. very disappointed.

Let me just say that the music for the podcast is perfect. It just sounds sleazy, and gives me the shivers when I hear it, which is exactly what I feel when I think about Epstein.

This show is doing an inadequate job of scratching my itch for a comprehensive understanding of this man. I think it's the release schedule. 30-40 minutes on a bi-weekly basis. Makes it seem like just a pet project for everyone involved, but instead I really wanted a thorough deep-dive into this subject. Maybe the producer isn't investing enough resources into this project? I appreciated the interviews in the last episode, but it feels like they should have enough source material to really pad this out and give everything more context. I'd recommend "The Mysterious Mr. Epstein" for someone who wants to get the story in sequential order on a more frequent, weekly schedule.

Oh my, Michelle, I wish you could see what a smart & brave 16 year old you were to have even had the smarts & self-protection instinct to get away from both monsters, Jeffrey & Ghislaine. I’m so sorry that this horrible experience has held you hostage for so long. When you are ready, you can let it go & quit beating your self up about what a scared 16 year old did then & even after. It’s OK to say “goodbye” to your long nightmare and forgive yourself. You did the best you knew how at the time. That’s all any of us can do.

It crushed me to hear Michelle say she doesn't know how not to blame herself. I remember that feeling, although I was 20 when I was sexually assaulted... what she went through was far more traumatic. A child cannot and should not be expected to outsmart a predator. My heart goes out to her. I hope she can find peace.
