The Unnoticed Need...

The Unnoticed Need...

2022-06-2009:33

The rich young ruler bowed his knees before Jesus as he repetitively questioned him, but he would not bow his heart to him. The unnoticed need that the rich young ruler had was the one roadblock to him gaining eternal life. Jesus’s response was spoken in love but painfully received by the man. The fulfillment of the lack is impossible with man, but Jesus leaves us with the encouraging words "All things are possible with God!" What a different world it would be if we would go all in with Jesus!Mark 10:17-22The Rich Young Ruler in the synoptic Gospels: Matthew 19:16-30; Mark 10:17-31; Luke 18:18-30.The Synoptic GospelsCut & Paste Personal Invitation to invite your friends to check out “gwot.rocks” podcast: I invite you to check out the podcast, “gwot.rocks: God, the World, and Other Things!” It is available on podcast players everywhere! Happy! Happy! Happy!

Happy! Happy! Happy!

The thought of delight in religion is so strange to most people, that no two words in their language stand further apart than "holiness" and "delight." But, believers who know Christ understand that delight and faith are so beautifully united. Those of us who love God with all our hearts, find that his ways are ways of pleasantness, and all his paths are peace. Psalm 37:4 says to “Take delight in the Lord.“ The instruction of these words to some must seem very surprising and odd, but to us who are sincere believers it is only the reinforcement of a recognized truth. The life of the believer is described as a delight in God because it is a wonderful fact that true religion overflows with happiness and joy. Can you look back over your life and testify that your life has been a delight in the Lord? Psalm 37 is 40 verses long and an extremely powerful encouragement to us on how and why we should find delight in the Lord in the midst of these trying times. To be clear, in the podcast I talk about a people group I had the privilege to serve who were polytheistic in their religion. The Christian Bible is clear in its teaching that there is only ONE God. Polytheism is the construct of fallen man.Psalm 37Cut & Paste Personal Invitation to invite your friends to check out “gwot.rocks” podcast: I invite you to check out the podcast, “gwot.rocks: God, the World, and Other Things!” It is available on podcast players everywhere! The absence of concern or debate about the human conscience does not minimize its reality and serious, base, fundamental component of being human. As we give some focused thoughts about “conscience”, my hope is that we can help steer people we love and care about toward a greater awareness of their need to give attention to their conscience, and to not ignore it or take it for granted. God’s grace, mercy, and love has equipped each of us as humans with a conscience, and the wonderful greatness and sovereignty of it as the image bearer of God should provoke us to know ourselves, and in this sense, love, respect, and reverence ourselves more than all other creatures, friends, and acquaintances. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves. If a person’s conscience knew its power and authority, it would not allow itself to be silenced, abused, restrained, and kept under, being under God, the lord-controller of the soul, and supervisor of life. Acts 24:16, Hebrews 13:18NIH article on conscience.Google Dictionary Definitions from Oxford Languages Cut & Paste Personal Invitation to invite your friends to check out “gwot.rocks” podcast: I invite you to check out the podcast, “gwot.rocks: God, the World, and Other Things!” It is available on podcast players everywhere! Stick-to-it-tive-ness!

Acts 14:22 tells us that part of Paul’s missionary efforts were spent “strengthening the disciples by encouraging them to continue in the faith and by telling them, ‘It is necessary to go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.’” Perseverance is the trademark of true saints and the target of ALL our spiritual enemies. To finish this life strong for the Lord, we MUST develop stick-to-it-tive-ness!Check out our new video show episode #2 on YouTube: "Other Things with Mark Maxwell "Cut & Paste Personal Invitation to invite your friends to check out “gwot.rocks” podcast: I invite you to check out the podcast, “gwot.rocks: God, the World, and Other Things!” It is available on podcast players everywhere! This is the next installment, #21, of Empowering Encouragement Now! It is a short but powerful podcast. In Luke 21:19 Jesus said: “By your endurance, gain your lives.” The King James is a great translation here: “In your patience possess ye your souls.” Jesus is not saying that we earn our way into Heaven. What we are talking about is taking responsibility for ourselves and the core of our being. It is exciting to know that the God of all creation wants us to be steadfast and solid in this life, where nothing can shake us or shake us loose from our attention and focus on Him, where He receives all glory due him and we are conformed into the image of His Son. This episode will give you help to toughen up and see the hand of God at work in ALL your life circumstances! A great short article on “The Patient Possessing of Your Soul”. . How can we expect to win souls to Christ if the inspection of our lives by the world leaves them wanting to see any distinct difference between their lives and ours? This mini-series "Twelve Devices of the Devil to Draw the Soul to Sin" is adapted from the writing of Thomas Brooks, a Puritan author who lived from 1608-1680, entitled  “Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices.” I have included a link in the show notes to his complete works found on archive.org, in a public domain publication from 1776 edited by the Reverend Alexander Balloch Grosart, Liverpool. Thomas Brooks WritingsCut & Paste Personal Invitation to invite your friends to check out “gwot.rocks” podcast: I invite you to check out the podcast, “gwot.rocks: God, the World, and Other Things!” It is available on podcast players everywhere! For Want of a Nail.

For Want of a Nail.

2022-05-1217:01

“For Want of a Nail” first arrived in culture in the 13 century, and made famous here in the United States when Benjamin Franklin included a version of it in his June 1758 publication of his annual “Poor Richard’s Almanack”. In simple yet memorable prose it strikes a chord that all are familiar with, that seemingly unimportant acts or omissions can have grave and unforeseen consequences. The Bible is full of examples of things that at first glance may seem small of insignificant, but in the end, we learn just how big the small things are of can become! Working Fatigued

Working Fatigued

2022-05-1006:24

An accident is "an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury." When we work tired and fatigued, we are an accident waiting to happen. Working fatigued is not of the Lord and addressing the cause and cure of fatigue will require faith to get to the rest we all need. In Isaiah 40:27-31, we find that the cure for life and work fatigue is the affirmation of the glory of God the Creator in our lives in real time through resting, trusting, and waiting. Together, and in this order, they constitute the biblical way of renewal. The Prophecy of Isaiah, An Introduction & Commentary by J. Alec Motyer, pages 307-308 was used in preparation of this podcast. While the American culture focuses on the meaningless and mundane, God offers a calling to a higher realm of existence both in living and especially in dying.  This is Empowering Encouragement NOW #18! If we would learn to profit by our prosperity, we should not need so much adversity. If we really know Him, it should be natural that His rich blessings that flow to us should provoke better things, and not worse things. Have we lately received some blessing which we little expected? Has the Lord put our feet in a large room? Can we sing of His mercies multiplied? Allow God's blessings to provoke increased righteousness and not rebellion! Happy Thoughts

In Romans 8:1-27, we see five ways that the Holy Spirit is at work in the life of a Christian. This will make your heart happy! The five key points were drawn from my key theology professor, Dr. William E. Bell! I am excited to provide a link in the LIFE HELPS section of our website transformthiscity.org! Thank God for the technology that provides access to the living legacy of great Bible scholars like Dr. Bell. You really will be amazed when you go to the website that hosts a vast amount of his work, . You can trust every single lesson you find there by him. He was a conservative theologian who handled the Word of God with great care and accuracy. The Bible reference is hyperlinked to Bible Gateway. It is one of my favorite Bible websites. I think their logo is exceptional! It is as minimalist as you can get, yet so profound in what it represents! (Clarification: at the end the words are "to walk this precarious EARTHLY road.) As I watched some of the Coachella music festival this past Easter weekend 2022, I looked for meaningful music but only found the final resting place of the Ringling Brothers clowns. When you look at the massive crowd of young people attending the concerts, you can’t help but ask, what does the future of America look like? Against this barren landscape filled with children who are growing up with empty pockets and nothing to give to the future, without a spiritual revolution founded in Jesus Christ, they are destined for control and abuse assigned to meaningless, insignificant tasks…and I ask, WHERE IS THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST in all this? Jesus loves the little children, but do we? NME ArticleRomans 7:13 ExplainedThis is Empowering Encouragement Now #17!Cut & Paste Personal Invitation to invite your friends to check out “gwot.rocks” podcast: I invite you to check out the podcast, “gwot.rocks: God, the World, and Other Things!” It is available on podcast players everywhere! “Steady on the Compass”, or “steady as she goes” is a nautical term which means to steer a steady course on the compass heading indicated at the time of the order. The helmsman is to repeat the order and call out the compass heading on receiving the order “Steady on…”. Steering to a convenient fixed object in line of sight, in place of adhering to the compass coordinates, happens because there is a sense that it is easier to detect deviation from the ordered course. What does this have to do with the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead? Listen to find out! It's fantastic to read the Apostle Paul's account of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, 1 Corinthians 15.CHIRP article About CHIRP Cut & Paste Personal Invitation to invite your friends to check out “gwot.rocks” podcast: I invite you to check out the podcast, “gwot.rocks: God, the World, and Other Things!” It is available on podcast players everywhere!
