In the past few weeks, we have felt more anger, outrage and sadness than perhaps ever before. And that is the problem we want to address today. As two white females, we feel shame and guilt over not leaning into our privilege, and using our voices before. We realized that if we are going to be true allies we need to PUT IN THE WORK ourselves, and speak up using our voice and privilege.
In today's episode we address the actions we have taken so far, and the actions we plan to take as individuals and on this platform, moving forward.
We will also address some learnings around the disparities black communities face when it comes to health.
First, we define and talk through a few definitions that will be the anchor for our conversation. Then, we chat about the connection between racism and health, resources we have discovered lately and our action plan moving forward. Throughout we will discuss our own personal experiences of white privilege, and other thoughts along the way.
To find all of the resources and links we mention in this episode, please check out the description under the podcast episode itself. Link is in our bio as always.
We realize even though we're learning, we are going to make mistakes along the way, and acknowledge and apologize for any mistakes that have been made previously. Please feel free to reach out to us. We want to keep an open dialogue. This fight isn't over until all humans are treated equally. Keep working team. ✊🏾✊🏼✊🏿✊🏽

Today we have quite a different episode for you... Due to COVID-19 we are all experiencing shifts and changes in our lives. We have seen devastating health effects world wide, and in Canada of course we’ve been told the precautions we all need to take which include Social Distancing. Due to these safety precautions and returning from travel, our normal in person recording isn’t possible right now.
Therefore, Kyra and I decided to each record our thoughts and experiences we’ve been having during our self isolations with you. Keeping our theme going, March is still our MINDSET month, so today, we’ll be focused on how we can reset, reframe and adjust our Mindset during times of stress and uncertainty.
Sara Chats about:
- Coping with Anxiety in Quarantine and in General
- Finding peace and calm in a stressful sitiuation
- The power of community
- Going from being on vacation to coming home to zero income
- Fixed vs. Growth Mindset
Kyra Chats about (14:30 +):
- How to stay connected
- Making lifestyle adjustments
- Nutrition and at home work out strategies
- Working from home
- How she is staying positive and busy
We are sending you so much love, and hope you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy. We hope you can find something that resonates with you in this episode, and that we have some helpful tips and takeaways.

It's a new month (which means it's time for a new theme in Season 2) and we are going to be focusing on MINDSET for all of March! What better way to kick us off than with an episode with the Co-founders of Toronto's top meditation studio, Hoame?! They have created the most incredible modern meditation studio here in a city that certainly needs to slow down from time to time.
Hoame Co-Founders, Stephanie and Carolyn, both studied psychology in university and went on to postgraduate training in mental health and addictions (along with multiple other certifications). Carolyn pursued her masters in social work and Stephanie her masters in psychology. Professionally, they both worked clinical roles in a variety of hospital, academic and community settings. They also went on to accept several faculty teaching appointments.
After years of working in clinical settings, they realized that much of what they were seeing in their practice was a direct result of today’s modern stress-filled lifestyle. Their desire to combat this epidemic led them to the study of mindfulness and meditation.
Hoame represents a shift away from the traditional reactionary approaches to health and wellness and a movement towards a modern and preventative approach to wellbeing. With Hoame, Carolyn and Stephanie wish to inspire a lifestyle movement where stress is no longer simply an accepted part of our daily living. A space where taking care of yourself is encouraged and celebrated!
TWTO x Hoame TICKETS: Click here to get tickets for our event at Hoame on March 19th from 8:30-10pm. We can't wait to see you there!

This week we chatted with Jermel Pierre (@jermelp), BSc, MSc. 💪 Jermel is fascinated with why we as humans do the things we do, both from a cognitive and behavioural standpoint. 📚
Jermel studied kinesiology for his undergraduate degree, and followed this up by completing a double masters degree in Cognitive Psychology and Muscle Physiology. Following school, he followed my curiosity for both the body and mind by becoming a Cardiac & Psychiatric Researcher at Toronto General Hospital, investigating quality of life in patients who had undergone aortic valve replacement.
His love for the human body extends into fitness, having certifications as a CPTN-CPT. This along with his educational background has helped him to understand the human body from the micro level. Understanding the needs of the body through what we put into it and what we expend out. Or simply put “Energy In, Energy Out”. Jermel is also the Co-Creator of RX Fit, an online platform that calculates individual energy needs and expenditure based on metabolic function and exercise activity. RX Fit will be making its debut in the new year!
We cannot wait for you to listen to this weeks episode. 🎙 He provides so much knowledge and takes a very logical approach to wellness. 👌
In this episode we chat about:
- Jermel's simple and scientific approach to exercise
- The CBD Industry
- The effects of music on cognition
- A lesson on “taxes and gravity”
- Trends: Intermittent fasting, celery juice etc.
- How to stay motivated in the gym
- Fundamental movements to start with
- What Jermel eats in a day
- Approaching life to not look back with regrets
- Why grinding is not the goal
- Setting up your business and the importance of seeking help/building a team
