Our 20th episode is one to remember! A fantastic episode with the head coach from Florida Atlantic University, John McCormack. John provides just phenomenal insight into the ins and outs of recruiting at the collegiate level and how that bleeds your culture. No matter what level you coach the discussion around culture can benefit any program at any age. Unlike a lot of our guests, John never thought he would be a baseball coach, but fell in love with the recruiting and team management side of the game. Over 131 players under his coaching in the last 30 years have been drafted and he's led the team to 5 championships, numerous NCAA tournament runs, and a No. 12 ranking in 2015. There is a ton to learn here about how you can get the right kids for your team and coaches that can be molded to fit the culture you are building. There isn't enough room in this episode description to describe how great this episode was. Stu Fritz is the current ABCA President and head coach at Hope College for the last 26 years. He has led the Hope Flying Dutchman to 9 championships, the same amount of times he has won the Louisville Slugger Coaching award. The experience and knowledge discussed by Stu in this episode spills out from minute 1 to minute 45. If you want to be an influential person or mentor to your players or the kids you coach start today. Start by listening to this episode and understanding how the game is changing and what our role is as coaches to help get the best out of our players not just on the field but off. @hopecollegebsb @abca1945
Super interesting episode with hitting guru David Ring from Canyonside Cages. David started Canyonside about 11 years ago in San Diego California, and from what started as a hitting cage as evolved into a full fledged Player Development Center. David has worked with over 50 pros and continues to work with young players getting drafted every year. During this episode we peel back the onion on what it takes to help hitters and players take the next step in their baseball journey and the requirements of a facility in helping them get there. Really great perspective from Branden Berry on this episode! We dive deep into the hottest products at Axe Bat. From short bats to long bats and different weighted bats we explore how an athlete can develop their swing. Branden reflects on his experience working at Blast Motion and now Axe Bat as we dive into the newest ways to develop as a hitter with clutter of subjective and objective information out there. Branden played professionally and does a terrific job of connecting his playing days, his process as a hitting, and relating it to landscape of data we now have to navigate as coaches. This was recorded as everything with COVID-19 was just unfolding in the US. Justin Sherman is from the New Rochelle area, which has been greatly impacted. Justin has put his lessons and coaching on hold during this time so our country can practice social distancing and stay healthy. Instead he will be partaking in virtual lessons with his athletes, and was also able to chunk out some time with us to chat. Justin provided a much needed lens to the current state of youth baseball and how coaches can navigate working with parents, and on the flip side how parents can step in and be great parent coaches at the little league level. He often does guest speaking at little leagues to shed light on how parent coaches can help kids have fun while building structure and work ethic. Absolutely great listen with plenty of tid bits for coaches at the youth level. Get your notepads out! @justintimebaseball on instagram @cochcrates
A conversation about being an ultimate competitor with Maryland Hitting Coach Matt Swope. Previously the Director of Baseball Operations for 5 years and 2nd All Time in Hits in his career at Maryland. Matts practical simplicity he brings to hitting is extremely refreshing in a hitting world full of noise. The discovery work is the process, and coaches should be truly authentic to build the proper culture. @coachcrates  @mdmadehitting
