Description

EarBuds Podcast Collective is a listening movement. We send a weekly podcast recommendation email that contains a theme and 5 podcast episodes on that theme. The best part is that each week is curated by a different person -- and anyone can curate!

This podcast will highlight each week's podcast picks, information about the curator, and more. We'll also share podcast tips, industry news, and bonus recommendations from time to time.

EarBuds Podcast Collective was created in February 2017. The founder is Arielle Nissenblatt. The editor of the newsletter is Abby Klionsky.

We have created a vast online community, accessible through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

This podcast is meant to make EarBuds more accessible and to turn more people on to amazing podcasts and the people that are listening to them.

Here are the episodes Ari chose: MONDAY: On Purpose with Jay Shetty - How To Release Your Toxic Beliefs & Getting Back To Your Higher Nature - 63 minutes Jay Shetty interviews leadership coach Robin Sharma on his new book, The 5AM Club. FRIDAY: A Tribe Called Yes - 4 Degrees of Separation - 23 minutes In this episode, host Daron K Roberts interviews me about how I traveled from LA to NY relying solely on connections made via social media. This was a profound experience and the first time that I began to truly believe the idea that you can learn something incredibly unique and fascinating from anyone. I wanted to share this because it was the first time that I began to be a lifelong learner. Most of these episode recommendations are available on Podchaser, Castbox, and wherever else you get your podcasts! Written by Skye Pillsbury, Inside Podcasting is a thrice weekly email newsletter that covers the podcast world. This week:This week's theme comes to us Arielle Vetro and is called: Brain Food. Here’s why Arielle chose this theme:While the appeal of mindlessly shoveling food into your mouth is certainly not lost on me - sometimes it’s good to get the ol’ noggin working while you eat too. Here are 5 shows to fuel both your brain and belly. Here are the podcasts + episodes chosen by Arielle: MONDAY: Radio Cherry Bombe - Climate Change, Food, and You - 46 minutes TUESDAY: The Food Programme - Pints of progress: The Brewers Changing Attitudes to Learning Disabilities - 28 minutes WEDNESDAY: Copper & Heat - Food Delivery Apps w/ Homeroom - 35 minutes THURSDAY: Point of Origin - A Tale of Two Yoghurts - 58 minutes FRIDAY: Gastropod - The United States of McDonald's - 48 minutesAll of these episode recommendations are available on Podchaser, Castbox, and wherever else you get your podcasts!Want to sponsor one of our upcoming episodes? I like food, urban design, female-authored fiction, food (did I mention that already?) and community organizing. Got an idea? Whether you’re in the U.K. or an ocean away, send me a message - let’s brainstorm! Here's Arielle’s CROWDSOURCING QUESTION:Despite differences in our relationships and access to food, eating is often argued to be one of the few universal experiences present in every human’s life. With that in mind, do you think stories that use food as the entry point are an effective way to build empathy and create connections across different kinds of people and communities?Instead of news this week, we are recommending that you to check out the Twitter feeds of a few podcast industry folks who are tweeting about Coronavirus, podcasts, and how those two topics are coming together:Misha Euceph - @meucephAlie Ward - @aliewardJames Cridland - @jamescridlandWe recommended a bunch of extra podcasts this week that are covering the Coronavirus situation:Women’s Meditation NetworkOlogiesJust Na ScienceThis Podcast Will Kill YouEPIDEMIC with Dr. Celine Gounder and Ronald KlainStart Here with ABC NewsCoronavirus: What’s Really Going On?The Coronavirus Daily BriefingUse this hashtag to discuss this theme online with us: #BrainFoodThis episode was written and produced by Arielle Nissenblatt, who also hosts the show. Welcome to episode 23! It covers the week of March 9 - 13, 2020.This week’s theme is: *أَهْلًا وَسَهْلً - Ahlan wa Sahlan - Welcome.* Our curator is Miriam Tinberg.More on this podcast:Each week on this podcast, we’ll share the information that's within the newsletter put out by EarBuds Podcast Collective. Since we so rarely hear nuances or complexities about the region, my hope is that the podcast medium creates an opportunity for people who wouldn't otherwise be exposed to these stories to sit, listen, think, and allow for those gray areasMONDAY: See Something Say Something - Taking the Numb Out of Numbers - 40 minutesTUESDAY: Kerning Cultures - Not Just My Hijab (Part I) - 22 minutesWEDNESDAY: Man Up - Why Can't My Wife and I Pray Together - 31 minutesTHURSDAY: Al Empire - Hamed Sinno: Mashrou’ Leila Singer/Songwriter - 44 minutesFRIDAY: Jasadi - أول مرة (My Body: First Time) - 21 minutesNB from Miriam: This episode is in Arabic. I chose to include it -- and hope there are some Arabic-speakers on this list -- because I believe representation and inclusion matter. The episode itself features a few Arab women talking about their first times hearing about and experiencing the concept of sex, something considered haram (shameful) in many Arab communities. Since sex is so rarely discussed in the Arabic-speaking countries of the Middle East and North Africa, it was important for me to include it in this week's curation. All of these episode recommendations are available on Podchaser, Castbox, and wherever else you get your podcasts!Want to sponsor one of our upcoming episodes? Email us at earbudspodcastcollective@gmail.com.Here's Miriam's SELF PROMO: If you, or anyone you know are enrolled in a degree-granting institution (undergrad, grad etc.), and are interested in studying Arabic and living in the Middle East / North Africa (MENA) region, I can talk your ear off about U.S. State Department grants and scholarships to apply for to that will get you there for free! I love reading application essays, so hit me up!Here's Miriam's CROWDSOURCING QUESTION: Reflect on your podcast queue: is it mainly voices and stories that are familiar to you? Stories that you might hear in your circles already? Or, is it a mix of voices that aren't otherwise represented in your non-podcast life? No judgement here -- just interesting to think about and discuss.Use this hashtag to discuss this theme online with us: #WelcomeAhlanThis episode was written and produced by Arielle Nissenblatt, who also hosts the show. According to a story in Rolling Stone, the news was announced in a memo distributed to employees Tuesday morning. The majority of cuts are being made in small-to-midsize markets, which will now be served by syndicated programming "beamed in from afar" — a practice made possible by new legislation in 2017.Next story: The Daily Show with Trevor Noah has released The Daily Show Podcast Universe, a five-part podcast series parodying a number of popular podcasts including This American Life and Slow Burn. "We have synth music, dramatic podcasts, and ads for startups that will be bankrupt in four months," says Noah in the trailer.Next: An 18-year-old political junkie whose newsletter Wake Up To Politics broke major presidential news and published interviews with heavy-hitters like Nancy Pelosi is about to launch a podcast of the same name. Gabe Fleisher, who began his political journalism career in the third grade, says the show promises to "deconstruct the mechanics undergirding American politics, providing a foundation for listeners to better understand complicated issues like gerrymandering, right in time for the Iowa caucuses." Fleisher will be producing the show in partnership with St. Louis Public Radio. We've also included information about our sponsors, Buzzsprout and Pit Lane Parley!BuzzsproutMeaningful Podcast Monetization — Buzzsprout's Affiliate Marketplace offers meaningful monetization for podcasters of any size.
