Raised in Stantonsburg, North Carolina – population 778.  Timothy, raised by his grandmother, was exposed to a lot of things no young child should ever have to experience. However, he did not allow this to break him but only fuel him to become something greater than what his children environment could provide.  Grab your favorite drink (water, tea, coffee, wine, or beer – no judgement here) and let us dive into the Acumen’s Mindset of Timothy Lewis.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/acumenmindset/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/acumenmindset/support
You all know, I love to read. You can find me either cooking, painting/coloring, taking care of my plants, or reading something. These are things I like to do as apart of my self-care routine.  One of my favs books over the years has been Prayer Partners by August Gold and Joel Fotinos It has been one of those books, that I can go back to for simple story or message that help me to refocus or become grounded again. The other day, I had a moment, where I was becoming a little discontent with what was going on. It wasn’t that I was truly unhappy, but I could feel myself going that way if I didn’t recognize what was happening and made way to correct it. There is a story in the book regarding learning how to transmute negative emotions (chapter 20) that I have gone back to several times, as simple as this story is – it truly helps me to learn to focus on what is important with in the situation and what is just “noise”. In true cliff notes style, the story is about a rabbi and a very upset man. The man comes to the rabbi for help in turning his life around. The rabbi simply gives him a phrase to repeat each day “Thank you God, for everything. I have no complaints whatsoever.” The man took the phrase and left the rabbi. About a year later the same man returns. He is still upset. No change had taken effect in the man. When he saw the rabbi he told him that his “special statement” had did nothing for him. The rabbi listened to the stories that the man had to tell and offered him some additional advise – when something sets you off – say this phrase –  “Thank you God, for everything. I have no complaints whatsoever” It was then the man could see that, saying this statement wasn’t about only rejoicing in the good that happen, but also when faced with difficulties meet it with gratitude. I encourage you if you haven’t read this book, to pick it up sometime. Yes, its in relation to helping someone gain more discipline in their spiritual life. However, for me you can find inspiration from anything if you go into it with an open mind. Our Affirmation for today will simply be: Thank you God, for everything. I have no complaints whatsoever So, we are going to (((Inhale, exhale))) . Thank you God, for everything. I have no complaints whatsoever . (((Inhale, exhale)) Thank you God, for everything. I have no complaints whatsoever . (((Inhale, exhale))) Thank you God, for everything. I have no complaints whatsoever . Over the past few months, we have gone over several different types of meditation. Have you decided on one that has become your go to? With all the various changes going on right now in the world, I have started to lean a lot more on sound/audio meditation at night. This has helped me greatly in releasing possible anxiety or stress that I might have encountered during the day. During the day, I do practice more of the compassion meditation and attachment meditation to help with being mindful and releasing thoughts, energy, or actions that do not serve my highest self. So, let me know what has been working for you. As you can see, I have been using more than one depending on what is going on to help guide and ground me during the day. As we know, we are not in control of everything that happens, but for what we are in control of – make it count. Our Affirmation for today will simply be: Everyday, in every way, I am getting better and better. So, we are going to (((Inhale, exhale))) . Everyday, in every way, I am getting better and better. . (((Inhale, exhale)) Everyday, in every way, I am getting better and better. . (((Inhale, exhale))) Everyday, in every way, I am getting better and better. . Attachment Meditation An article from Psychology Today, written by Dr. Robert Puff in 2012 titled: When You Need to Let Go, provides us with the understanding that attachments are like this; we want what we want and once we have it, we want it to stay the same. We say to ourselves, “I need this" or "I have to have this or else I’ll be unhappy.” Any attachment we hang onto that we insist can't change—whether it’s our health, our beauty, or our relationships—will cause us to suffer. He provides that: the key benefits of meditation is learning how to live in the present moment. There’s just so much mind chatter going on in our brains all day. Meditation teaches us to quiet our minds. Because our attachments come from our minds, when there’s no mind chatter, then there are no attachments. All, and I do mean all, of our attachments come from mind chatter. So if we learn to quiet our minds, we learn to just be, live in the present moment, and the attachments disappear. We simply learn in the attachment mediation to - LET GO of what we do not have control over.  Affirmation Recording Our Affirmation for today will simply be: May I be led from the unreal to the real. From darkness to light. So, we are going to (((Inhale, exhale))) . May I be led from the unreal to the real. From darkness to light. . (((Inhale, exhale)) May I be led from the unreal to the real. From darkness to light. . (((Inhale, exhale))) May I be led from the unreal to the real. From darkness to light. . Sound Meditation Did you know most of us do this now, if we listen to music! Or a Podcast, like you are doing right now. . Yep! Listening to music or sound in general can be a way of meditating as well. Finding audio that helps you to focus and stay in the present - calm your senses - can be VERY helpful. . . . I like to use binaural beats to help me with sound meditation. I do use other music and my singing bowl - but I enjoy binaural beats more as a way to formally meditate. . . . With the binaural beats I am able to control my breathing more and truly focus on the moment and how I am feeling . . . Sound meditation is a GREAT way to unwind and relax before drifting off to sleep Our Affirmation for today will simply be: May all be happy. May all be peaceful. May all be free from suffering. So, we are going to (((Inhale, exhale))) . May all be happy. May all be peaceful. May all be free from suffering. . (((Inhale, exhale)) May all be happy. May all be peaceful. May all be free from suffering. . (((Inhale, exhale))) May all be happy. May all be peaceful. May all be free from suffering. . Compassion Meditation We all need to show a little more compassion sometimes. We ALL can take things personal that REALLY had nothing to do with us. We are human. . However, with compassion meditation, you take control and your power back within the situation. You gain control again on how YOU want to feel and not how someone has MADE you feel . This has helped me in a lot of situations where I might have been attacked by someone because of how they were feeling - but it had nothing to do with me. However, they took their feelings out on me - emotionally dumping - until I would take on the 'vibe' of the situation This meditation helps to clear your feelings and center yourself - I created a phrase that I repeat several times until I can feel my body come to ease. I try to do this by walking away and finding a quiet place, but most of the time I will do it in the moment (while looking the person in the eyes) as a way to quickly calm myself Our Affirmation for today will simply be: I am at peace. I am protected. I am calm. I am free of pain and sorrow. So, we are going to (((Inhale, exhale))) . I am at peace. I am protected. I am calm. I am free of pain and sorrow. . (((Inhale, exhale)) I am at peace. I am protected. I am calm. I am free of pain and sorrow. . (((Inhale, exhale))) I am at peace. I am protected. I am calm. I am free of pain and sorrow. . Walking Meditation . . . This is perfect if you find it hard to focus while sitting or just want to get some steps in! . . . Ensure you choose a location where you will not be disturbed . . . Begin the walk by centering yourself; I like to take three nice deep breathes. Taking in the environment. Feeling the sun on my skin or the 'temp' of the day. If I am walking inside, I will find a playlist that helps me to relax (no words, just smoothing sounds) . . . To me there is no right or wrong "formation" with this, it is about getting up and moving. Releasing tense and focusing on being in the moment (nothing more, nothing less) . . . @hinkler_books #mzcroomley #letmehelpyou --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/acumenmindset/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/acumenmindset/support

In today’s episode we will dive into my personal journey regarding depression and anxiety. Hey! Did you know that if you text HOME to 741741 when you are feeling depressed or suicidal, a crisis worker will text you back immediately and will continue to text with you? Many people, especially younger ones, don't like talking over the phone and would feel more comfortable texting. This is a free service for anyone. Everyone needs a little help at some point in their lives, don’t be ashamed. It will be okay. ❤️ To anyone who needs someone to talk to when you feel like you have no one. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/acumenmindset/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/acumenmindset/support
