Episode 6: Boomtown

2019-11-2832:13

The home of everyone from the world’s strangest strongmen, everyday workers who plan their year around it, and the best DJ and performers in the world - this is a backstage pass to the unique Boomtown. The festival with the Labyrinthian storyline contains elements of Halloween and ‘Stranger Things’ in the heart of a British summer with production to blow all of your sense - creating much more than your usual event. In this episode, Jaguar headed to the 11th Chapter, during a weekend where the weather cancelled a number of other festivals across the weekend - but Boomtown carried on strong. She especially looks at their Green Mission - an ambition to flip the throwaway mentality on its head, by eliminating single use packaging, innovative initiatives with tents and many other ideas which led to a field of people chanting ‘recycling, recycling, recycling’. Find out how the production and booking staff work, what the DJs think of the event and why the punters love it as we go Access All Areas. Featuring interviews with Eats Everything, Kings of the Rollers, Alborosie, High Contrast and Mella Dee. It’s the extra risks and gambles which have made The Warehouse Project - creating defining moments ravers, DJs and not even the authorities have known about to create the iconic Manchester brand - and in this episode of Red Bull Music AAA we reveal them. Jaguar takes us to a ‘moment in history’ as she plays and reflects upon the opening weekend of their new venue - The Depot. The previous venue, Store Street, will go down in folk law but how have Sam and Sasha evolved with a forward looking outlook with the constant challenge of keeping the brand feeling new? Discover why the promoters nearly lost their houses after booking 24 events with an image they found online of a warehouse (which they didn’t have access to) and left the glory days of the Hacienda in the past. Find out how they’ve created a new modern chapter and legacy for Manchester nightlife - and gave prisoners a free Public Enemy rave by mistake. Sound leaked from Public Enemy at the Warehouse Project into the next door prison and the prisoners started raving. Featuring interviews with Krystal Klear, Kettama, TSHA, Sherelle and Krysko.
