Label: ABC-Pmt. 10329Year: 1962Condition: M-Price: $25.00Is this classic early Bubblegum? Or late Buddy Holly? Whatever, Roe's Holly impression is spot-on, and ultimately the song and recording succeed on their own, as a truly brilliant reworking of "Peggy Sue." I tend to think of it as Bubblegum because you really have to get in touch with your long lost, pubescent self to appreciate the simple, romantic sentiments Roe sings of. If you can't summon yourself as a 14-year-old, you simply won't understand part of the enduring appeal of Bubblegum Rock. (Another of its enduring appeals is its danceability: All Bubblegum Rock is made for dancing!) Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage ABC-Paramount Records factory sleeve. It has Near Mint labels wth a small numbered sticker on one side. The vinyl looks almost untouched, and the audio is outstanding and close to Mint. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Capitol 4932Year: 1963Condition: M-Price: $35.00This is a beautiful copy of the Beach Boys' first top 10 hit, which also had a Top 40 B side -- one of their greatest "Car" songs. Note: This 45 record comes in a vintage Capitol Records factory sleeve. It has Near Mint labels and vinyl, and pristine Mint audio!
Label: Threshold 67006Year: 1971Condition: M-Price: $12.00This great single is one of the few occasions when the group really rocked out big time... an essential Moody Blues track! Note: This copy comes in a vintage London Group Records factory sleeve. The vinyl (styrene) shows signs of jukebox wear, but the audio is very close to mint. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Laurie 3179Year: 1963Condition: M-Price: $35.00Here's an especially beautiful copy of the single that sits at #43 on Dave Marsh's list of the 1,001 greatest 45s of all time, in its original Laurie Records factory sleeve! Great B side, too. This is an original 1963 pressing with the powerful Mono mix. I'm celebrating the awesome ear-candy experience listening to this copy with its flawless audio by making an mp3 "snippet" for you to hear. Keep in mind, it's a greatly compressed version of what you'll actually hear from the 45 itself... but ain't it grand? :-) Note: This vinyl pressing looks almost new (Labels, Vinyl), and as I've already noted, the audio is flawless and powerful. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Sire 29444Year: 1983Condition: M-Last Price: $16.00. Not currently available for sale. This is a like-new stock copy, in its original picture sleeve. It's interesting to note that both sides of this single show up in Dave Marsh's list of the 1,001 greatest 45s... "2000 Miles" (the greatest new Christmas song of the 1980s, according to Marsh) is at #630, while "Middle of the Road" weighs in at #805! Note: This copy has light storage wear and two "x's" that lowers the Label grade to Near Mint. The wax and audio are pristine, and the picture sleeve has only light ringwear not visible in scan and age appropriate top edge wear.
Label: WB 29917Year: 1982Condition: MPrice: $7.00From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy, in its original factory sleeve. This was Anderson's first Country chart-topper, just before his big crossover hit "Swingin'", and from a pure chart perspective was his biggest Country hit. It has a real Zydeco/Cajun feel to it... have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" in our "jukebox"! Note: This beautiful 45 has pristine Mint audio.
Label: Fontana 1541Year: 1966Condition: M-Price: $20.00Riding the wave of the British invasion, The Mindbenders had a knack for releasing catchy singles but somehow missing out on the celebrity fame of fellow bands like the Beatles, Dave Clark Five, Hollies, Herman's Hermits, Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Kinks, Who, etc. Like John Lennon and Paul McCartney, lead singer Wayne Fontana typically sang without showcasing his British accent, so some fans might have mistaken them for an American band. In fact, they were more successful in the U.S. than in their native country. Besides great tunes and a great lead vocalist, the band also featured lead guitarist and songwriter Eric Stewart, who later became a founding member of 10cc. Another 10cc member, Graham Gouldman, joined the Mindbenders in 1968, so all in all the band had a lasting pedigree even if their overall impact at the time was understated.
This particular single, their second Top 10 U.S. hit, bundled a terrific rocker on the flip that is among their best (IMHO). Its raw sound and brash lead guitar put it firmly in the school of Garage Rock, and showed how even their B sides were worthy of the label "classic," though they failed to make an impression on the airwaves. Take a listen to the jukebox snippet to see if you don't agree. :-) Note: This copy comes in a vintage Fontana Records factory sleeve. It grades Near Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).!
Label: Capitol 2248Year: 1969Condition: MLast Price: $15.00. Not currently available for sale.On the B side of this classic hit is another reason why Joe South is so admired... here's a complex pop song that's part country, part soul, part psychedelic rock. Numerous tricky, interesting time changes and melodies make it a great find hidden on a B side. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Capitol Records factory sleeve. It has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: Capitol 5587Year: 1966Condition: M-Last Price: $70.00. Not currently available for sale. This is a beautiful copy of the original 1966 release on the yellow/orange swirl Capitol label; no 'Subsidiary of Capitol' perimeter print. This one is worth praising for the terrific guitar bits Harrison concocts, blueprints for the guitar-driven Power Pop sound that coalesces in the 1970s and continues to this day. Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" to hear it. Collector Nerd Alert: The B side is credited to Lennon-McCartney-Starkey on this release. Both sides appeared on the band's "Rubber Soul" album. Note: This copy comes in a beautiful Near Mint picture sleeve. The 45 itself has almost Mint labels. The vinyl looks Near Mint with just a few light scuffs, and the audio sounds very close to Mint.
Label: Laurie 3400Year: 1967Condition: M-Price: $15.00Here's another Music Explosion single you won't want to be without! Check out the mp3 "snippet" of it... Not a big hit, but it's extremely catchy. Great B side, too. By the way, the A side is a non-album cut. Note: This beautiful copy has a drillhole and comes in a vintage Laurie Records factory sleeve. The audio sounds very close to Mint. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Atco 6491Year: 1967Condition: M-Price: $12.00The B side of this single (a non-album cut) is well worth the price of admission all by itself... but of course, who could live without hearing the goofy A side once in awhile? Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Atco Records factory sleeve. Despite some surface marks on the vinyl, the audio is nearly Mint. On the whole, the 45 grades Near Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio). (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Prelude 8004Year: 1979Condition: MPrice: $25.00Jocelyn Brown was a member of this group. This terrific Philly-style dancer was their biggest hit. I liked it so much right away I had to get an mp3 "snippet" out for you to hear. Great Disco-style dancer on the flip. Both tracks are edited from longer album cuts of 7:54 and 6:30, respectively. Note: This beautiful copy has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: Atlantic 87236Year: 1994Condition: MPrice: $6.00Despite some signs of jukebox use on the vinyl, the audio is Mint! This terrific Country chart-topper is one of several by this artist to cross over to the Pop market. Have a listen to the mp3 snippet, and you might hear why! This one borders on Rockabilly.
Label: EMI 8043Year: 1980Condition: MPrice: $10.00Johnny Burnette's kid may have made only one classic 45, but it's still a joy to hear more than 40 years down the road! By the way, this single's B side is a non-album cut. Note: This beautiful 45 has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: Atlantic 3574Year: 1979Condition: M-Price: $14.00In case you have somehow avoided being infected by this acutely catchy tune, here's your opportunity! You can find an mp3 snippet of this in the Classic 45's jukebox... check it out! This Abba tune differs from most of their catalog in a couple respects: It's one of their rare A side tracks that features a male lead vocal (in this case, Bjorn Ulvaeus). It's also one of their few hard rockers, opening with that instantly memorable rhythm and punchy lead guitar.Note: The 45 itself grades very close to Mint. The picture sleeve is nearly flawless!
Label: Epic 10184Year: 1967Condition: M-Price: $35.00Everybody knows the delightful A side, which was originally recorded by the Four Seasons and released as the B side of "Rag Doll". But this single is doubly pleasing! Be sure to turn this one over to hear the surprisingly punchy, very catchy B side! (We have a jukebox snippet of this one...) Note: The picture sleeve has no notable flaws. The 45 itself has Mint labels and Near Mint vinyl (styrene) and audio.
Label: Laurie 3380Year: 1967Condition: MPrice: $20.00Besides the famous A side, don't miss the great B side on this one, which shows the group's garage-rock roots very clearly. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Laurie Records factory sleeve. This vinyl pressing has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: Hickory 1332Year: 1965Condition: M-Price: $20.00Some Northern Soul fans consider this one of theirs, but to me it's also part of the Bubblegum sound. (Remember: Bubblegum Rock was dance music, too!) Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Hickory Records factory sleeve. It looks almost new (Labels, Vinyl) and has pristine Mint sound. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Buddah 114Year: 1969Condition: MPrice: $12.00This is a different recording--slightly slower beat and different vocals--from the one that appears on some later bubblegum compilations, such as Rhino's 'The Best of the 1910 Fruitgum Co. and Other Bubblegum Smashes' LP. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Buddah Records factory sleeve. It has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: ABC 11164Year: 1969Condition: M-Last Price: $12.00. Not currently available for sale. This single's B side is further proof that Tommy Roe was so prolific and tuneful that he was able to throw away little gems like this on his singles' B sides! Really quite yummy... have a listen! Note: This beautiful copy has Near Mint labels. The audio sounds pristine Mint. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
