What does Filipino-American History Month (October) actually mean? Is it ube-flavored lattes and lumpia? Is it Manny Pacquiao and an obsession with Kobe Bryant? Leah and Trizzy dive deeper into the contributions, success, trials, and culture of Filipino-Americans and their history and shaping of the United States.  Even though Leah is a first-generation Filipino-American, she didn't truly feel connected to or understand her Filipino roots until going off to university. Listen in on the stories, questions, and anecdotes to make us think more carefully about the way we celebrate history versus heritage. This episode is sponsored by Rhino, a social app that focuses on diversity in travel, and enables people from every background to share and discover travel experiences through photo and video. In this episode are helpful tips to help you decide for your next adventure. How can you tell if a homestay is any good? Is it number of reviews? A perfect 5-star rating? Is it on all the booking sites? Is it REAL? This episode is for those travelers who are looking for sharper ways to evaluate what actually makes an excellent homestay, what to do when you find THE ONE for your trip, and how to maximize your time there. Visiting Hawaii shouldn't be a topic of contention, but it is! As often and as much as we go, sometimes it's an internal battle thinking "are we contributing to the overtourism?" Not to shame anyone that travels to this tropical American paradise just 6 hours west of California (we believe it's literal paradise on Earth & should be explored properly and enjoyed), but at what cost to the locals and animals? This episode is a thinkpiece and our personal experiences on why you should (and SHOULD NOT) visit the Aloha State.----Always protect yourself on your travels: Sign up here to get your own SafetyWing Nomad Insurance (affiliate link).Connect with Ticket 2 Anywhere Podcast!Instagram • Facebook • TikTok • TwitterIf you enjoyed this episode, consider supporting the show by Buying Us a Coffee! "Don't be kak, be lekker!"A phrase that most South Africans live their life by, which roughly translates to "be an awesome person." Leah aka @LAinFlight spent the entire month of January and half of February exploring the Southern Hemisphere and "The Mother City" in particular,  by posting up in Cape Town for the month. In this episode you'll learn how Leah worked remotely using a 24/7 workspace and her fully furnished apartment (despite the loadshedding), how she emersed herself in  the local culture and cuisine, tried to learn some Xhosa and learn the deep history of South Africa in general, and how to explore Cape Town's nature, winelands, hikes, and local road trips. You'll also learn what she prepared beforehand, how she packed, and some important tips while on the ground. In our final act of 2022, we discuss something that has been weighing HEAVY on Leah's mind: Geotagging and gatekeeping locations while traveling. Do we have a responsibility as humans to protect places? Do we have a responsibility as travel creators to share the wealth? Can you do both at the same time?
