***Make Your "Work" Worth It*** Unless you value hard work regardless of the fruit that it bears (which is a value I'd advising dropping), how do you know if your "Work" is worth it? Like an investment of money, the expenditure of Physical, Mental, Emotional, or other types of effort are investments of our precious time and energy. When we invest money, we'd like to see a return of more than we put in. Similarly we'd like to get more than we put in for all types of "work." "Work" goes beyond just what you do as your primary means to earn income. "Work" is involved in caring for your body, deciding how to spend your time, relating with other people, and many other activities. When "work" is spent on something aligned with your values then it will flow and feel easy. When the "work" leaves you drained, agitated, and questioning "Why do I do this?" then it's likely not in alignment with your values and it's time to put that "work" elsewhere. I recently had to do this with a friendship and potential coaching client and it's allowed for me to enjoy the fruits of my "work" going into people and projects that light me up instead of dull my shine. It Is What It Is...Not

"It is what it is" Have you ever used this phrase or heard someone use it? It's often used when there's a frustrating situation that can't be changed. There isn't much that offends me, but I do find this phrase offensive because it's 100% a lie. Nothing is 100% static. Nothing is what it is. IT is whatever we interpret IT to be. This is a verifiable fact of Quantum Physics where if you choose to see a photon of light as particle then it behaves as a particle. If you choose to see it as a wave, then it behaves as a wave. If you choose to see a situation as unchangeable, it will be unchangeable, but if you choose to see a situation as changeable it becomes changeable. Since all humans have the ability to choose their perspective, it 100% is NOT what it IS. It is what you choose it to be. I avoid correcting people on this unless I'm actively coaching them, but internally I update the phrase to the following true statement: "It is what it is, except when it is not"I'm now on TikTok and Twitter! "You can be right or you can be happy." How do you feel when you read that quote? When I first hear that quote when going to Al-anon meetings, as someone who loved to be right, it did not make me happy. Yet, I really really wanted to be happy. I thought if I learned the right things and did the right things, THEN I would be happy. Just as the Free Beer Tomorrow will never be available now. You will never be happy in the future. You can only be Happy now. Some of you might already be thinking, "but Justin, Two years I ago I wanted to be happy when XYZ happened, then a year ago it happened and I was HAPPY, so I must be able to be Happy in the future!" Yet, as you recall that event, are you not happy NOW? ***Be Your Own Truth Detector*** How open is your mind to new information? Or if it doesn't fit with what you've been told by an authority, do you write that off as lies, nonsense, or fake? Have you ever asked where that authority discern fact from fiction came from? (Hint: It's usually self-given.) Am I telling you to disbelieve everyone and everything? Absolutely not. Many, if not most authorities have great intentions and beneficial information to improve your life in the proper circumstances. What are proper circumstances? That where YOU come in. Be YOUR own TRUTH detector. Ask this simple, yet powerful question: Based on all my senses and knowledge of the universe, does this information seem true, relevant, and useful to ME? If the answer is NO, move along. No need to criticize or sling mud. Because just because that knowledge isn't for you, doesn't mean it might not be for someone else. This is all about your personal discernment. Recently I had a chance to visit the mysterious stones of Avebury, which could be 4500 years old, or more. They could be of human origin or perhaps not. Is any of that useful or relevant to ME? NOPE, not at this time, so I move on. What you need is already so close, maybe too closeHawks, wildflowers, sunshine, breezes, bay views, redwoods, succulents, and...the Salesforce skyscraper? Recently I wanted to go for a hike that got me away from the overcast and cold near the Ocean where I live and enjoy some sun and trees. I thought I might have to drive 30 to 45 minutes, but a quick search found everything I wanted and more only 15 minutes away. I've always loved water, yet growing up as I got older I found myself spending all my time in my room in concrete jungles, even though I was only 25 minutes drive from the beach, a 10 minute walk to swim and sail club, and even had a pool and spa in my backyard. I was so heads down in to my challenges, that I was missing the joy literally in my own backyard. Often we make what we want so f*cking hard that we miss how close it might already be. Sometime we can figure this out on our own, but from my experience this is where it's so helpful to check with someone else, like a friend or a coach. Basically someone who isn't afraid to to (kindly) tell you how you're missing the joy in life.I'm now on Tik Tok! How does it feel when you lose something in life? It could be a relationship, health, money, or almost anything. Usually it doesn't feel so good. And sometimes it doesn't feel so good for a really really long time. This pain often comes from the loss of one of our basic human needs being met, like the need for closeness, love, security, expression, etc….we humans have a lot of things we need to be living our #bestlife. The severity and length of the pain of loss is often related to your strategy of getting these needs met and it's most likely broken, and it's not your fault. You likely never went to the store to shop around for strategies to get your needs met. It's probably a hand me down from whoever raised you. For example, how upset do you get when the sun goes down each day? Likely not too upset even though sunlight is very important need for human survival. Why? You know this need can be met using lights and at the very least you know the sun will come up again tomorrow. You have a great strategy for the need of light. Often our strategy for getting our needs met is like a Coconut. Where there's a thick coating between us and the world and maybe we only allow for a small connection for sending and receiving. On this episode of the podcast I'm going to talk about changing your strategy for getting your needs met so that you can minimize the suffering of loss by being more like a Strawberry where the yumminess is closer to the surface. ***** Tune Out to Tune In (to what you want) ***** Have you ever had a horrible experience somewhere and you wish it would just end? I recently had a bad experience at a grocery store. It's a chain I usually try to avoid because I usually have a bad experience, but this store was on my way home, so I stopped into the Unsafeway, and guess what? The experience was NOT Good! Low selection of items, high prices, it was effectively like a convenience store with way more square footage. I was so ready with a snarky retort for when the checker was going to ask me, "How are you?" or the even the "Find everything, okay?" But they didn't ask me anything! I could have proactively shared my complaints, but instead I did something different. I tuned out. I tuned out of the bad experience that I was having, and then I tuned in to something different. I tuned into, what is the experience this checker is having. I asked her, "How are you doing?" And I asked in a way that showed I cared by making eye contact. She replied with a sigh "It's soo busy, so many messes to clean up."
