"Within months, the business failed and I went through a dark, suicidal depression..." Matt Lesser has a story to share: "I grew up in a small, lake community in northeast Indiana. We moved there because my dad had an opportunity to buy into a wholesale oil distributorship.Growing up in a town of 700, living with a family business, and attending a small, Christian school (my graduating class had 7) gave me a very narrow, sheltered view of life. I quickly realized how sheltered my life had been!..."Additional areas discussed include:-regular retreats for him and his employees with no technology -powers of solitude and silence-getting reflective and planning inward-having a support circle-recognizing when you are getting drained -how journaling can change your lifeAfter college, I moved to Florida for a short while. Realizing that was not what I wanted, I moved back to Indiana, proposed to my elementary school sweetheart (we met in 3rd grade and dated from our Junior year of high school on), and were married in 1996. Thinking I would pursue a Master's, my career took an unexpected turn. Instead of resigning, which I attempted, my dad left...and turned the business over to me. Thinking I could do anything because I was 25, arrogant, and prideful, I was about to experience reality. Within months, the business failed and I went through a dark, suicidal depression. Nearly a year later, a new business was born from the ashes, and nearly 12 years later that business was sold. In 2021, I finally jumped "all in" into my own business, after being told by many whom I had worked with over the years that I needed to do this."Link to his episode on Writing with Authors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5pBn7-N8aM&t=3sHave a question for a guest or host? When Crystal Webster's daughter, Madelyn Elizabeth, was born May 19th, 2010, and then died in my arms just a few hours later I KNEW that this angel was special {I’m a little biased, I know}. She touched so many lives during her very brief one…I just didn’t know the right outlet to carry on her life, love, and legacy......I spent the next 5 years grieving her death, healing my heart, and working to bring my Madelyn the siblings she deserved. To this day, Madelyn remains an only child. In 2015, during an uncommon moment of enlightenment, the concept of Sharing Solace hit me like a bolt of lightning. The only way to describe it is that Madelyn knew I was ready to begin to heal - and help others do the same - so she sent the idea to me herself.I realized the gifts I received when Maddie was born - the gifts that once brought me so much comfort - were now bringing back the pain of losing her. I couldn’t keep seeing them every day and have a healthy mind {that realization in and of itself provided its own source of grief and guilt}. These gifts were not given to me to be put in a box in the back of a closet - but that’s where they sat.Sharing Solace officially launched on May 19, 2018 - Madelyn Elizabeth’s would-be 8th birthday. I hope we’ve made Miss Maddie proud!Link to her episode on That Entrepreneur Show: https://thatentrepreneurshow.buzzsprout.com/737252/13767936-make-your-journey-less-rocky-with-crystal-websterMusic Credits: Adventure by MusicbyAden | https://soundcloud.com/musicbyadenHappy | https://soundcloud.com/morning-kuliBrought to you by Tampa Counseling and Wellness- Dedicated to helping individuals looking to positively transform their lives through compassionate counseling and wellness coaching. Looking for the strength to overcome a health scare? This week's guest courageously shares her journey battling  an eating disorder, an early onset scare with breast cancer, and managing her anxiety. Other areas of discussion with Alyssa Young: Having a mindset that you are already doing enoughWhy breathing exercises are a game changerDon’t downplay your tough timeScheduling time for happinessAt the young age of 14 years old, Alyssa experienced her first anxiety attack. She was actually on a mission trip in Miami with her youth group, and didn't even realize what "anxiety" was at the time. Anxiety can present itself in so many different ways, including physical symptoms of which she was experiencing. Her youth pastor and another one of their other staff members took her to the emergency room late that evening, and as they ran many tests to check everything physically, everything came back normal. Nothing was physically wrong, which was great news, but when they concluded everything, she was told that she had an anxiety attack. Upon returning home from the mission trip, Alyssa followed up with her PCP as normal, and began her journey with a phenomenal therapist. Alyssa learned the ins and outs of anxiety and what it was, what could trigger it, and gained so many amazing tools that she still implements to this day! Since the age of 14, which would be 11 years ago, Alyssa has been thrown many curveballs in her life including an aggressive eating disorder, an early onset scare with breast cancer, being hospitalized due to both of those, and of course the ongoing journey of feeling that she is enough in every way.Stay tuned for the spotlight story at the end of the show. Vincent and Alyssa will dive into an article discussing eating disorders.
