On the Thursday Twitch stream:  Joe updates the big news he had on Tuesday’s show that he will have a new digital show on Saturdays. It is going to be called Also Eligible. Joe explains why he likes the name, and also gives some thoughts on some blowback he had on Wednesday night.  OJ Simpson died on Wednesday at 76 years old. Has anyone else in the last few years had people been as happy as people were today when we found out he died?  OJ almost was an Eagle (only segway I had), and those Eagles found out who they will play in Brazil against Green Bay. Ironically enough, the soccer team that plays at this stadium informally bans the color green.  Caitlin Clark is driving ticket sales in Indiana and around the WNBA…and she isn’t formally a member of the team yet!  Could the Arizona Coyotes be moving to Utah for next season? The NHL has some contingency plans in place.  Finally, Joe was talking with friends and did some research on Uncle Ernie, the adopted horse of the Bleacher Brothers. He could be running in a state bred stakes race in 10 days, as he is on the nomination list for a race at Parx.
On the Tuesday Twitch Show:  UConn & South Carolina win their national championshipsJohn Calipari goes to ArkansasCream Abdul-Jabbar in transfer portalElbow injures galore in MLBJoe’s big announcement
On the Thursday show:  The Mets won a game on Thursday despite not getting a hit in a 13-inning span of a doubleheaderAthletics to play in Sacramento while Vegas stadium is built starting next yearMaybe we need promotion and relegation? Baltimore’s AAA team in Norfolk is loaded with future stars and put up 26 runs on Wednesday night.Baffert horses in the Kentucky Derby? One of his owners file lawsuit in KentuckyReturn of the Stupid (Stuff) I Saw: former MLB player fired by Henderson Police Department one day after graduating from Police AcademyReturn of the Philly Phade: picks for the Final Four (both men’s and women’s)Announcement in regards to the streams on Twitch
On the Tuesday show:  Joe was on DraftKings last night and put a $10 wager on a Dodger to hit a home run. Didn’t get that but did get a bonus wager. With a little luck, including waking up early, he essentially turned $10 to $60!  Joe did not like Braves’ announcer Brandon Gaudin went after the tired Philly stereotype on Easter Sunday. Apparently Philly fans would boo Jesus after his resurrection. Joe thinks that if Catholicism wasn’t dead, Gaudin wouldn’t have a job after his comment.  The Final Fours are set. The women had the spotlight on Monday night and did not disappoint. The men could have a very interesting Final Four as well.  Somehow the 3-point lines in Portland were different distances on the court for four days and no one noticed til Sunday. It was fixed for Monday night, but it appears the side that was lined properly was the side teams performed better on.  Joel Embiid returns to the Sixers tonight, and the Sixers came back to beat OKC.  The Phillies bullpen is horrible, and Connor Brogdon was DFA’d today, and Ricardo Pinto got the rare four inning save Tuesday night.  Finally, Joe had an announcement of what may be a change to my podcast/stream schedule.
On the Thursday stream:  Joe begins with the Phillies “rain out” today. Joe does not think it rained enough to warrant the postponement but living on the total opposite end of the city, Joe could be wrong. But since he was also watching the Angels/Orioles opener while working, he lost track of the weather.  Oops! But Joe did issue a “weather alert” with his announcement on his Twitch page (twitch.tv/JoeQuills) beginning around 3 pm Eastern time.  Joe tries to decipher the Shohei Ohtani situation. Joe thinks that if there is smoke, there’s fire, but is it black smoke, which means the fire is burning, or white, which means the fire is close to extinguished?Joe missed one women’s basketball story from last weekend. A referee was removed from a first-round game because she didn’t disclose that she holds a masters degree at Chattanooga, who was playing NC State. How does that happen? The Jaromir Jagr bobbleheads have been found in Ontario, California and will be distributed to fans next week.  The Capitals and Wizards are staying in DC. The Caps & Wizards owner used Northern Virginia to get a better deal to stay in Washington.  Joel Embiid may be back before the season ends according to head coach Nick Nurse, but there is no timetable for Embiid’s return. Joe says no Sixers result would surprise him.  Also, check bleacherbrothers.com and their betting page as you can get some sweet deals by clicking one of the links on the bottom part of the betting section of the site.  Friday will be a sidecast of the Phillies home opener which was delayed a day due to “rain”.
On the Wednesday show:  Joe begins with why there was no show on Tuesday night. That’s because he was a late add to the Bleacher Brothers show. There were some other things that were teased as well.  Joe talks about the Kim Mulkey presser the other day where she threatened to sue the Washington Post because of a “hit piece” about to come out.  Utah women’s basketball experience off the court when they played in Spokane, Washington last weekend.  Ice Cube offered Caitlin Clark a huge offer to play in the Big 3 League this summer. Joe thinks it’s about time there was an offer to a player that was a has been or never will be.  Finally, Joe has his MLB predictions which comprised of who wins each division, who gets wild cards, and who will hoist the trophy at the end of the season.
On the Tuesday Twitch stream:  Joe begins with some breaking news. The unofficial horse of Bleacher Brother Uncle Ernie won on Monday at Parx. Joe didn’t pick him, but he was a good reason if you read the article.  The NCAA basketball tourney is set, and a bunch of teams declined bids to the NIT. The NIT isn’t what it used to be, and Joe thinks it’s time to end that tourney and expand the NCAA tourney to 96 teams, including making the regular season mean more. Then Joe goes through the bracket.  Brief story: Jimmy Garoppolo met the media and LA and explained the reason for getting popped with a PED violation. He didn’t get a therapeutic exemption for whatever he was taking.  Two former NHL players passed away. Chris Simon, a former Flyer in the Eric Lindros trade, passed away at 52. Also, Konstantin Koltsov, who was dating #2 ranked women’s tennis player Aryna Sabalenka, also passed away, but his details were known to the public.  Finally, a little sorbet. Josh Winckowski had jury duty on Tuesday. How did he get out of it? He has to pitch in Clearwater against the Phillies on Thursday.
On the Tuesday stream:  Joe begins with the news of the legal tampering period in the NFL, and Joe doesn’t really like the Saquon Barkley signing. Maybe it’s because the Eagles signed DeMarco Murray years ago.  There is a presidential election this fall, and we might be seeing Aaron Rodgers as a Vice Presidential candidate. He is being considered by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who like Aaron Rodgers is a major conspiracy theorist.  Finally, Antelope Valley College was forced to shut down because of financial issues. But the men’s and women’s basketball team will be playing in the NAIA national championships this week.
On the Thursday stream/show: Joe begins with his mock State of the Stream address, which was a fun way to introduce what he had in store tonight. Joe begins with looking at the Sixers in the Eastern Conference standings. Joe had said at the beginning of the year that he felt the Sixers wouldn’t make the playoffs, and if the Sixers crash and burn in the Play-In Tourney, then the NBA would say they didn’t make it, but technically the Sixers did in Joe’s opinion, since the Sixers did play games 83 and 84. Then Joe talks about the announced Mike Tyson/Jake Paul fight. Even Joe might have to watch this, though he’s rooting for Mike Tyson here. Some Kansas City Chiefs fans may be looking at amputations. Joe found a store that 70% of fans diagnosed with frostbite from that extremely cold game in January may be consulted by doctors to amputate what was frostbitten. Finally, there may not be enough ego at ESPN for both Pat McAfee and Stephen A. Smith if a New York Post article is correct. Apparently there was an argument that led to one calling another an MFer.
On the Tuesday Twitch stream: Joe begins with Jason Kelce’s iconic speech at the Eagles Super Bowl parade in 2018. Jason Kelce retired, but Joe had a question: is the term G.O.A.T. used too much? Zack Wheeler received a 3-year, $126 extension. Great move. Also, Zack Wheeler has the right mind set per Joe that Wheeler doesn’t want to hang on when he approaches 40 when pitchers’ skills erode. The Athletics finally revealed their stadium designs. The renderings look like the Syndey Opera House. But Joe still has a gut feeling that The A’s end up in Sacramento or Salt Lake City for some weird reason since all over moves in MLB had teams going to an MLB ready stadium. Joe calls himself a reformed gamer, but he saw that MLB The Show 24 will have a “Women Pave Their Way” showcase on the game. The trailer features a nod to Kelsie Whitmore who plays in the MLB Partnered Independent Leagues for the Staten Island FerryHawks of the Atlantic League. The feature is interesting and could get Joe back into gaming. Finally, over 10,000 college football players opted into the EA Sports College Football 25 game that will come out this summer. One who didn’t? Arch Manning. But why he didn’t is interesting and not what you would think.
On the Thursday Twitch Stream: Joe begins with some odds and ends. Joe likes seeing different hits on the podcast side, and there was a new hit in Massachusetts today. Joe appreciates everyone that takes the time to download and listen to the podcast, returning or new. Caitlin Clark is going pro after her college basketball season. She will probably be picked up by the Indiana Fever who won the WNBA Lottery. She should be the next superstar to succeed in the WNBA. Phillies dropped their Dollar Dog Night promotion, and Joe is okay with it. Who wants to be ducking projectile hot dogs all night? Who wants undercooked hot dogs that are usually given to kids? Who wants to wait in lines causing congestion issues on the concourses? Not this podcast host! Joel Embiid met the media today. He wants to play in a few weeks no matter where the Sixers are in the standings. Sixers could be a dangerous team even if they have to play the play-in round or they must just not make the playoffs. Anything could happen with this team, but Embiid wants to play, just like when he was a rookie and he was minute limited by the process. Joe read an article about expanding the NCAA tourney. Great article by Joe Lunardi, but your host things 96 would work better than Lunardi’s suggestion of 80 teams. But you have to make things more interesting, like make sure teams qualify for even their conference tourneys. Joe is live on twitch.tv/JoeQuills every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 pm ET. Check the Bleacher Brothers show on the Tony Bruno Sports Network app and check BleacherBrothers.com for all your sports needs.
On Tuesday's Twitch stream, Joe talks about the court storming issue that was a hot topic as a star Duke player was injured when Wake Forest's student section stormed the court. Joe mentioned some suggestions that some big college basketball names mentioned.Joe also talks about Tim Mayza, who paid off his punishment for finishing last in the Toronto Blue Jays' fantasy football league. Thankfully Joe isn't in a league that punishes the last place finisher, and won't be doing so if he runs any leagues in the near future.
On the Thursday Twitch show: Joe begins with the MLB expansion topic. He reviewed an article he saw and gave opinions on what we think are the candidates for when Rob Manfred officially opens up the process. It may not happen but keep an eye on the situation in Arizona. The owners want (some) public funding to help renovate Chase Field, and in a roundabout way, said they might have to move if they don’t get it. The MLB uniform issue is getting worse as the MLBPA are noting additional complaints about this year’s uniforms including “see through pants” and supply chain issues. EA Sports is bringing back their college football video game, and for a foundation game since it’s the first one in over 10 years, it will have all kinds of features, including student athletes getting paid for their NIL in the game. Even Notre Dame is in as they were the last school to hold out. Finally, the College Football playoff committee is already looking to expand beyond the 12-team format for next year. Joe has a better idea and format.
On the Tuesday Twitch Stream: Joe is a little messed up with what day it is at the top of the show. He keeps saying Wednesday because he screwed up his work schedule Texas A&M Commerce and Incarnate Word brawled in the handshake line after their game on Monday night. Joe says once again that if the NCAA does not have this “forced sportsmanship” rules where you line up to shake hands after the game, this does not happenMLB has a uniform issue that might be spiraling out of control. The players do not like their new uniforms that were made for this year, and now a reporter from the St. Louis Post Dispatch is saying that the alternate uniforms may not be available at the start of the season. The NHL announced the 2026 NHL All-Star game will be held at UBS Arena in Elmont, NY. Joe thinks the NHL dropped the ball (or puck) in celebrating America’s 250th birthday with the ASG here in Philly. Joe also mentioned that the NBA also dropped the ball with Los Angeles having the NBA All-Star game there as well.At this point I had a couple of new followers join me and we started getting off the rails. I think I know who one of those people were, but I haven’t completely confirmed their identities. We had an impromptu Sixers talk as I was catching up with the chat room. The “Stupid (Stuff) I Saw” segment returned with two stories. First, a horse was loose on I-95 Tuesday morning, and I tell how I intertwined it with the unofficial horse of Bleacher Brothers “Uncle Ernie”. Then I mention how someone is suing Powerball because he thought he won the jackpot but didn’t.Then Joe gives a special Tuesday night edition of the Philly Phade. Note that when I referred to an “all in” wager, it was still a small amount of money. Always bet within your means! Catch Joe every Tuesday and Thursday night at twitch.tv/JoeQuills. Subscribe to The Philly Guy Speaks wherever you get your podcast. Also check out bleacherbrothers.com for all your sports needs and Joe’s “Quills Picks Winners” articles. Apologies for posting this so late!Joe talks about the tragedy that occurred at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl championship parade and in lighter news, Joe's experience in Vegas, including being on Radio Row for the first time.
On the Thursday Twitch Show: NFL news:Dan Quinn hired in DC, Mike Macdonald in Seattle, Jim Harbaugh had his introductory presser in LACleveland Guardians could have an Opening Day even more historic than a World Series winCorbin Burnes traded to the O's RIP 2008 World Series champion Jimy Williams What if the Athletics don't find a place to play (according to Sactown Sports) with some added speculation on what Joe thinks they should do Former Alabama baseball coach banned from coaching, essentially for life Look at my January Quills Picks Winners stats Update on the TPGS pod over the next 2 weeks Join me at twitch.tv/JoeQuills every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 pm ET. Also check me out on Twitter, Instagram, and Threads @JoeQuills. Also check out BleacherBrothers.com for all your sports needs.
On the Tuesday Twitch show: Joe begins excited that he is less than 3 days away from his first vacation of 2024, and talks about how he takes vacations and other introductory ramblings. Also, take note of the Pikkit app. My code is FIELDGOAL7450. You get $3-100 for registering with my code and linking a sportsbook up with at least 10 bets, and I will as well! It’s a fun community without the political BS! Then Joe talks about his recap of the AFC and NFC championship games. Conspiracy theorists didn’t get the San Fran/Baltimore Super Bowl, but there is a fatigue with Kansas City going to the big game. Detroit went Gabe Kapler in the second half of the NFC game. Joe explains how analytics are good in the regular season, but gut feel and common sense take over in the playoffs. Ben Johnson announced he’s returning with the Lions as the offensive coordinator. He showed his loyalty to the team, but was his price too high to be a head coach? Eagles hired their DC and OC. Vic Fangio will head the defense and Kellen Moore will be running the offense. Joe is wait and see on these picks. Joe talks Bleacher Brothers and the Portland pick he gave out in the chatroom of their show on YouTube, which turned into horse racing talk since I am the degenerate horse racing guy there. Bob Baffert is suspended from Churchill Downs for a third year and his horses are ineligible for the Kentucky Derby. His owners whose horses he cares for showed loyalty to him by not moving them to another trainer’s care through the Derby. Some thoughts mentioned by the owners did make sense, but it is the 150TH DERBY!!! Steph Curry will be facing Sabrina Ionescu in a special three-point shooting contest during NBA All-Star Weekend on February 17. Joe might actually watch this! Joe gives an update on the Jackie Robinson statue that was cut from its base in Kansas last week. Some remnants were destroyed in a trash bin. Hopefully we can find the scumbags that did this. Finally, Joe gives a big announcement about next week. We’ll just leave it at that!
On the Thursday Twitch show: It was not a good night to be a Philly sports fan. Sixers lost to the Pacers, Flyers got shut out in Detroit, and my alma mater Drexel lost to Towson. Ugh! The NFL coaching carousel is slowing down to a near stop. Jim Harbaugh signed with the LA Chargers, Raheem Morris returns to Atlanta, where he was an interim coach a few years ago, and Carolina hired Dave Canales. An NFL player is gambling, but it’s a little bit of a different gambling story. The Patriots’ Kayshon Boutte was arrested in Baton Rouge this week for gambling while under age at LSU. More amazing was that he made 8,900 wagers over a 13 month period! The Philly Phade was next. Joe went 1-4 last weekend, and he’s trying to pick two winners for the conference championship games on Sunday. Rumors are starting to swirl that the Phillies and the Athletics could potentially play at least one game in Philly wearing 1930’s throwback uniforms. It’s unconfirmed, but it’s something Joe has wanted since the beginning of interleague play in MLB. The Yankees have “new” road jerseys. They took the white trim off the lettering and numbering on the gray road uniforms.
