Clearly, the Canadiens have been playing well down the stretch and have been an exciting team to watch but do they have what it takes to take down the #1 team in the East?

The Ovechkin goal scoring record hangover is in full effect as the team is trying to get back to it's winning ways. Unfortunately, this is proving harder than expected as the Caps have had very little to play for after Ovi has shattered the record. They have locked in the #1 seed in the East and secured another Metropolitan Division title for weeks now and these last games are largely a formality.
Spencer Carberry doesn't seem too bothered about this and believes that the Caps are going to be able to turn it on during the playoffs. But between then and now, they still have a couple of meaningless games left to finish out.

It's a surreal moment as a hockey fan and an even bigger moment for us Capitals fans. A record no one thought was within reach has finally been taken down by your very own Alexander Ovechkin. Madness.
It's been incredible watching what Ovi has done for the Washington Capitals and for DC and hockey at large. We're truly lucky to be a part of this time in history.

The Washington Capitals had a great week that featured more highs than lows. Though their shutout loss to the Los Angeles Kings was a pretty deep valley, the Caps did secure wins against San Jose and Anaheim.
This last week was the last long road trip of the season and probably the Caps easiest week for the rest of the season. The rest of the schedule is filled with Eastern Conference opponents and it won't be an easy go. Also, Alexander Ovechkin grabbed a goal out west which means he's only got 8 to go to break Wayne Gretzky's record.
Hold onto your butts it's going to be a hell of a stretch, let's talk about it!

This tournament is a 1 round, round robin moving right into a championship game winner takes all between the top 2 teams. The 4 Nations Faceoff is taking place of the NHL All Star game this year and so far it's been incredible.
Teams are not taking it easy and there's a ton of national pride on the line. The United States is leading the standings and has locked in a spot in the championship round as they have been undefeated in regulation in the 2 games they've played against Canada and Finland.

Honestly, a couple huge snubs in Logan Thompson and Tom Wilson, but even John Carlson got a bit of the shaft.
The Caps hold a 10 point lead on the Metropolitan Division and a 9 point lead on the Eastern Conference. An insanely impressive feat if you consider the pundits were saying the Washington Capitals were a bubble team.

What is up Washington Capitals fans! The Official Caps Chirp Podcast on The Hockey Podcast Network is back with another incredible Monday episode as usual.
The Washington Capitals earned points in every game this week but took a shootout L against a the wild who are currently a top team in the West. In any case, the Capitals did make ground on a great week and end the week atop the Eastern Conference, leading the Leafs by 1 point. More importantly they lead the Metropolitan Division by 4. Carolina has caught up with New Jersey and the Caps are currently outpacing the entire division. What a time to be alive!
Beyond the NHL we'll also talk about the IIHF World Junior Championship where the United States took gold! Love to see that. There were a ton of Washington Capitals prospects in this tournament and most of them did very well. Leonard, Hutson, and Mateiko all had a great tournament finishing up top in scoring.
