On this episode, Dr. Gadson discusses what does it mean for the church to be a witness of joy during the season of Advent 2023. Today marks the third week of Advent as we focus our hearts and minds on the birth of our Savior and on His Second Coming.  The difficult and dark circumstances across the world that we are enduring in this present day can certainly discourage or depress any feelings of joy.  Dr. Gadson looks at Luke 2:10-11 & Luke 24:52 and understands the word joy that appears in these verses mean a “calm delight” in the Greek. This episode mentions the word suicide as an excerpt is read from a chapter about finding Hope in dark places. On this episode, Dr. Gadson discusses what does it mean for the church to witness Hope during the season of Advent 2023. Advent begins today as we focus our hearts and minds on the birth of our Savior and on His Second Coming.  There are difficult and dark circumstances that we are enduring in this present day. Much like those who heard the prophets of old, we await not the birth, but now the return of Jesus. We draw from the Hope those possessed thousands of years ago that “unto us a Child WILL be born” as Isaiah prophesied in chapter 9, verse 6. Tune into this episode to hear how we wait on the Holy Spirit to discern when we should explicitly mention Jesus and when we should embody Him and extend hope to others by seeing and hearing them. Information for Dr. Gadson https://www.drmoniquesmithgadson.com/Link to order “Finding Hope in A Dark Place”:https://lexhampress.com/search?query=Finding%20Hope%20in%20a%20Dark%20Place%3A%20Facing%20Loneliness%2C%20Depression%2C%20and%20Anxiety%20with%20the%20Power%20of%20Grace&sortBy=Relevance&limit=30&page=1&ownership=all&geographicAvailability=allhttps://www.amazon.com/Finding-Hope-Dark-Place-Loneliness/dp/1683596358/ref=rvi_sccl_7/138-1785751-1148333?pd_rd_w=decCb&content-id=amzn1.sym.f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_p=f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_r=GMEBCA5ZB54MM98HHN5F&pd_rd_wg=pwctW&pd_rd_r=0cf054c6-aedd-427d-ac2a-563757407228&pd_rd_i=1683596358&psc=1Follow us on social media: https://www.facebook.com/And-The-Church-Said-Podcast-106848090932637https://instagram.com/drmoniquesmithgadson?igshid=1bmt2hei1j6i8https://twitter.com/DrMoSmithGadsonSupport And The Church Said:Cash App:  https://cash.app/$andthechurchsaidPayPal:  https://paypal.me/andthechurchsaid?locale.x=en_US.
Members, Visitors, and Friends! Happy Thanksgiving 2023! We want to acknowledge that we understand this day is complicated and very nuanced. People are grateful and spending time in joyous celebrations and gathering with friends and family. And also, the same people and others are feeling the weight and heaviness of many circumstances, currently and historically. On this episode, Dr. Gadson looks at Malachi 3:8-9 and asks one question that was given to her by the Holy Spirit. Is it thanks or is it theft? Tune in to this episode as she compels us to pause, to ponder, and to pray asking God are we giving thanks for things we have taken from others and from God Himself. Information for Dr. Gadson https://www.drmoniquesmithgadson.com/Link to order “Finding Hope in A Dark Place”:https://lexhampress.com/search?query=Finding%20Hope%20in%20a%20Dark%20Place%3A%20Facing%20Loneliness%2C%20Depression%2C%20and%20Anxiety%20with%20the%20Power%20of%20Grace&sortBy=Relevance&limit=30&page=1&ownership=all&geographicAvailability=allhttps://www.amazon.com/Finding-Hope-Dark-Place-Loneliness/dp/1683596358/ref=rvi_sccl_7/138-1785751-1148333?pd_rd_w=decCb&content-id=amzn1.sym.f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_p=f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_r=GMEBCA5ZB54MM98HHN5F&pd_rd_wg=pwctW&pd_rd_r=0cf054c6-aedd-427d-ac2a-563757407228&pd_rd_i=1683596358&psc=1Follow us on social media: https://www.facebook.com/And-The-Church-Said-Podcast-106848090932637https://instagram.com/drmoniquesmithgadson?igshid=1bmt2hei1j6i8https://twitter.com/DrMoSmithGadsonSupport And The Church Said:Cash App:  https://cash.app/$andthechurchsaidPayPal:  https://paypal.me/andthechurchsaid?locale.x=en_US.
On this episode, Dr. Gadson further discusses what does it mean for the church to be a refuge and how it applies to disciple perpetrators of abuse. Dr. Gadson shares her insights and thoughts from years of working in and with churches to consider how to navigate the very delicate task of discipling those who have inflicted psychological abuse on others. She admonishes the church to equip members for this specific task and to understand when to refer to a professional licensed clinician. Tune in to this episode as Dr. Gadson looks to Jesus and His relationship with Zacchaeus as a model for discipling those with a repentant heart and a plan for reparations. Information for Dr. Gadson https://www.drmoniquesmithgadson.com/Link to order “Finding Hope in A Dark Place”:https://lexhampress.com/search?query=Finding%20Hope%20in%20a%20Dark%20Place%3A%20Facing%20Loneliness%2C%20Depression%2C%20and%20Anxiety%20with%20the%20Power%20of%20Grace&sortBy=Relevance&limit=30&page=1&ownership=all&geographicAvailability=allhttps://www.amazon.com/Finding-Hope-Dark-Place-Loneliness/dp/1683596358/ref=rvi_sccl_7/138-1785751-1148333?pd_rd_w=decCb&content-id=amzn1.sym.f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_p=f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_r=GMEBCA5ZB54MM98HHN5F&pd_rd_wg=pwctW&pd_rd_r=0cf054c6-aedd-427d-ac2a-563757407228&pd_rd_i=1683596358&psc=1Follow us on social media: https://www.facebook.com/And-The-Church-Said-Podcast-106848090932637https://instagram.com/drmoniquesmithgadson?igshid=1bmt2hei1j6i8https://twitter.com/DrMoSmithGadsonSupport And The Church Said:Cash App:  https://cash.app/$andthechurchsaidPayPal:  https://paypal.me/andthechurchsaid?locale.x=en_US.
On this episode, Dr. Gadson continues to discuss what does it mean for the church to be a refuge and witness to those who are victims of psychological abuse.  Dr. Gadson shares about a conversation among graduate students who wondered what to do when individuals who are victims of abuse are rushed to forgiveness by members of the Church. Sometimes victims receive subtle suggestions (and most times not so subtlety), that forgiveness is the “way” to go. Dr. Gadson reviews the thoughts that inform why we should wait on the Holy Spirit to guide us with wisdom and clarity to be equipped to do the work of the ministry relating to victims of psychological abuse. She then looks to the compassionate strategy of the Good Samaritan to inform how we can “BE” the Kingdom of Heaven at hand and not necessarily “preach” the Kingdom of Heaven. Tune in to this episode to discover why a theological statement of forgiveness is not the first order of business among those who are severely suffering and mentally tormented due to psychological abuse. Information for Dr. Gadson https://www.drmoniquesmithgadson.com/Link to order “Finding Hope in A Dark Place”:https://lexhampress.com/search?query=Finding%20Hope%20in%20a%20Dark%20Place%3A%20Facing%20Loneliness%2C%20Depression%2C%20and%20Anxiety%20with%20the%20Power%20of%20Grace&sortBy=Relevance&limit=30&page=1&ownership=all&geographicAvailability=allhttps://www.amazon.com/Finding-Hope-Dark-Place-Loneliness/dp/1683596358/ref=rvi_sccl_7/138-1785751-1148333?pd_rd_w=decCb&content-id=amzn1.sym.f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_p=f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_r=GMEBCA5ZB54MM98HHN5F&pd_rd_wg=pwctW&pd_rd_r=0cf054c6-aedd-427d-ac2a-563757407228&pd_rd_i=1683596358&psc=1Follow us on social media: https://www.facebook.com/And-The-Church-Said-Podcast-106848090932637https://instagram.com/drmoniquesmithgadson?igshid=1bmt2hei1j6i8https://twitter.com/DrMoSmithGadsonSupport And The Church Said:Cash App:  https://cash.app/$andthechurchsaidPayPal:  https://paypal.me/andthechurchsaid?locale.x=en_US.
Today’ we review a previous episode, where Dr. Gadson continues to reflect on Pentecost and what does it mean for us as witnesses for Jesus on behalf of His bridegroom, the Church. She reflected on the mandate to wait found in Luke 24:48-49.Dr. Gadson considers the wisdom found in the command to wait until one is empowered from on high.  She imagines how this command can guide the members of the church to become equipped BEFORE going out to witness to those who have been  hurt by the church, Tune in to this episode as she discusses how churches should disciple the members in developing relational skills to more effectively serve those who are hurt or traumatized. And to encourage members to deal with their own emotional hurts before they witness to others. Information for Dr. Gadson https://www.drmoniquesmithgadson.com/Link to order “Finding Hope in A Dark Place”:https://lexhampress.com/search?query=Finding%20Hope%20in%20a%20Dark%20Place%3A%20Facing%20Loneliness%2C%20Depression%2C%20and%20Anxiety%20with%20the%20Power%20of%20Grace&sortBy=Relevance&limit=30&page=1&ownership=all&geographicAvailability=allhttps://www.amazon.com/Finding-Hope-Dark-Place-Loneliness/dp/1683596358/ref=rvi_sccl_7/138-1785751-1148333?pd_rd_w=decCb&content-id=amzn1.sym.f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_p=f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_r=GMEBCA5ZB54MM98HHN5F&pd_rd_wg=pwctW&pd_rd_r=0cf054c6-aedd-427d-ac2a-563757407228&pd_rd_i=1683596358&psc=1Follow us on social media: https://www.facebook.com/And-The-Church-Said-Podcast-106848090932637https://instagram.com/drmoniquesmithgadson?igshid=1bmt2hei1j6i8https://twitter.com/DrMoSmithGadsonSupport And The Church Said:Cash App:  https://cash.app/$andthechurchsaidPayPal:  https://paypal.me/andthechurchsaid?locale.x=en_US.

Historian, author, speaker  - Dr. Jemar Tisby - joins the podcast today. Dr. Jemar Tisby shares his lived experiences and the emotional effects of realizing when he did not belong, especially in the church.  Dr. Tisby recounts how he was introduced to Jesus and the positive encounters he experienced in his formative years. We engage dialogue to honor the emotional aspects of Dr. Tisby’s story as he delves into the feeling of betrayal he experienced and endured. It is because of those previous positive experiences and his remembrance of Who Jesus simply is, that propels him to continue to call the church to be a place of belonging by eliminating the barrier of race.Dr. Tisby encourages everyone to check on and check in with one another to generate and communicate hope. That hope and care and concern can be healing in the lives of others.  He also shares that self care is essential as he continues to do the work God has called him to do.
