You may want to have a podcast that people pay for! Or a podcast where financial supporters get ad-free versions of your episodes, bonus content, extended interviews, and more!
Linus Tech Tips recently concluded their daily gaming driver usage test of Linux, and concluded that Linux isn’t ready for prime time when it comes to gaming. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rlg4K16ujFw ) What are my thoughts? I’ll tell you! Plus we have a new boom arm to hold up my Shure SM7B, the Headliner Sierra from Headliner-LA! We’re reviewing that today!
A number of podcast hosts offer dynamic ad insertion, and often times to podcasters regardless of the amount of listeners. Spreaker and sounder.fm are two examples of this! There are some hosts that require you to have that 1,000 downloads per week or month, or whatever the threshold is! But on the two I mentioned, that’s not required!
Focus on content, not numbers! - It’s easy to focus on the numbers! Sure, you want to bring in listeners! And if you’re a guest on podcasts and swapping trailers with other podcasters, that listener base will grow over time! But don’t worry if your numbers aren’t what you hope for! Just keep making good content
Be a guest on other podcasts! - This is another cross-promotion tactic! But where do you even start?
Cross-promote! - You can connect with other podcasters who will play your podcast trailer if you play theirs!
Build a Wordpress Site With a Blog! - Wordpress is a content management system that powers many of today’s modern websites! And it was originally designed for blogging, and is now used for full-fledged websites! And you can use this to essentially build a website for your podcast! And you can import your podcast to individual blog posts!
Select your podcasting host – No, I don’t mean you or the person that is hosting the show! Rather, I’m talking about where your podcast is stored! There are many podcast hosting services out there, but I’m going to give you my recommendation!
Register a domain name! - Even if you don’t want to build a website right now, it will be beneficial for you to register your domain name!
What can you do about a mic that doesn’t sound as good as you’d hope? Perhaps you picked up a mic like the Blue Snowball, which doesn’t sound as good as many other mics – though it is good for the price! The thing is, you need to have a pro sound on the cheap!
Today on the Joey’s Totally Tech Podcast, we have the owner and lead designer of Top Flight Computers in Raleigh, North Carolina – just about three hours from me!. They build custom-built computers that match you perfectly! He’s also the co-host of the Not Your Typical I.T. Guys podcast! His name is Chris Touchberry!
In the beginning, it can be hard to tell if you even want to do the podcast in the long term, and you may have a schedule that doesn’t fit recording frequently. Sometimes, it’s best to take a day off of work and do all your recording for the next five to seven episodes all in one day.
Avoid clipping! Clipping is when your recording is TOO LOUD and leading to distortion! How do we do this?
Oops, there’s a plosive! How can I edit it out? - Sometimes you try your best to avoid plosives, yet they make it into your recording anyway. This could be due to not having the mic technique down, and maybe you just accidentally pointed your mouth to the mic. Or you were too close to the mic. You’lll see a few VST plugins to remove plosives out there. I’ve looked for them before, and everything I found was something you had to pay for. One of them was a subscription model, and I was already paying for enough subscriptions as it is!Well there’s a simple, free solution that doesn’t involve using plugins, but your DAW’s fade in and fade out capabilities.
A lot of people talk directly into the microphone when they speak. But this can cause plosives – powerful bursts of air that sound unpleasant in the recording. And they can even happen when you have a pop filter or windscreen. What else can be done?
What’s your podcast even about? I forgot to ask you what your podcast is even about early on! What are you going to make content about
OK, for those of you who want to use XLR, you’re going to need an interface, particularly because your computer doesn’t have those XLR ports! At least, I’ve not seen a computer with XLR ports yet. But that would be awesome!
