Many parents and educators have turned to online communities for support and resources since March 2020. There are very few groups who have provided more than Agness O'Brien's.The 11+, ISEB, SATs, GCSE & A-level Resource Group, newly Affiliate Partners of TTA (pretty special for a Facebook group) and recently partnering with Qualified Tutor, provides a wealth of resources, live events, emotional support, helpful guidance and learning materials to over 13,000 members. Since last spring, the group has more than doubled and continues to grow every day. The equation is simple: if you'd like to get access to resources and support from thousands of educators, parents and specialists stretching back over 5 years, then this is the place to be. And it's all down to Agness and her wonderful team of admins and moderators.By signing up, you'll also immediately find a short introductory video that gives info on all the moving parts of the group, including crucially how to navigate the thousands of resources and posts. Once podcast systems have reached a point where videos can be posted in show notes, that video will be up quicker than you can say ...Qualified Tutor is a tutor-training organisation, with a suite of high-quality, industry-first programmes. Welcome to the first of our Late Night Live Podcasts from the Love Tutoring Festival. Our Monday podcast welcomed on Nina Jackson, Amanda Cremona and Clio Tucker.Nina Jackson is 'the Ninja'.Amanda Cremona is the tutor that every student with dyslexia needs to work with. Clio Tucker is the student who 'failed her A-levels', and was oh so enriched by it.The topics discussed were varied and the conversation was aided admirably by participation from our live audience. We began with a true discussion on the advancements of accessibility in tech, followed by the impact of neurodiversity on learning, before drawing the conversation to a close with a look at the widely superfluous nature of homework and the effect it has on many students' learning.(And if you think your access to the Festival is OVER, then think again! Jessica Rutherford and Clare Devanney-Glynn are the pioneering hosts of the Spotlight on FASD Podcast and we welcome them on to discuss this condition in the sphere of education.Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is the term for a group of conditions caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol and, perhaps surprisingly, it is the most common, non-genetic cause of learning disability in the UK (British Medical Association, 2007). Studies have shown that as much as 1 student in every class may suffer from FASD.It is incredibly important that educators and medical professionals treat FASD seriously. Here, we explore what tutors can do in a tutoring session to aid students with this condition. (Hint: it is NOT what happens in a classroom setting)The best resource for tutors who are new to FASD, as recommended by Jessica, has been produced by the NHS for Ayrshire And Arran, Understanding FASD: What Educators need to know. Matthew Baetzhold is a Maths, Science and Writing tutor with a thorough knowledge of how classrooms and learning in schools work. The conversation here puts forward suggestions for how a future in schools of collaboration between tutors and teachers would work. With an emphasis on reducing the burden, both in terms of planning and managing certain students, 'tutors' would take one-on-one sessions during school hours, while 'teachers' would deal with group sessions. It may sound like sweeping changes, but it's already being implemented in both the UK and the US. While you're mulling over what Matthew and Ludo are proposing, don't forget to grab your tickets to Matthew's upcoming TAGGS summit event, Of Math and Magic.
