If you’re a small business owners who thinks they may need to close their doors given the stay in shelter order, before you massively liquidate your inventory, if you sell unique one of a kind products, here is an out of the box idea. While they too are not currently working, they may still have contracts in place and are in the process of curating items, so consider reaching out to the Set Decorators Association of America Members. They supply Hollywood with everything they need for every movie, television show, commercial, concert, and play. There are some really specific folks on this list. For example, some of them specialize in all things sports, Moroccan, taxidermy, aviation, and area rugs, while others carry lace curtains, antique picture frames, ceramic tile, balloons, birds, and caskets. While I can’t guarantee any of these places are buying, I think if you have a specialty product and it is in their niche, it is worth reaching out to them. For example, lets say you are a window treatment company and have decided since the economy is taking you are going to just close your doors and retire, if you have some unique pieces, at least check in with some of these places that specialize in windows and window treatments to see if you have anything they may want to buy from you. If you are an antique dealer and have a bunch of random good finds, again, worth reaching out. If you are an artist, many of the set decorators who specialize in art will allow you to post your art on their site and if they have interest, you can rent or sell it.  I know some people who do some really weird off the wall forms of art that is truly one of a kind that should list their stuff, like reindeer made of recycled toilets. I am going to send him this list today! If you are an artist, be sure to go back a few episodes as I have a podcast just for you. I love thinking of out of the box ideas to help those who are going through transition and I hope this idea was helpful! If you end up selling something, do follow up and let me know! I never know if all my crazy ideas pan out. http://www.setdecorators.org/sites/setdecorators/pdf/SDSA_BUSINESS_MEMBERS.pdf Have a blessed day, Jamie www.legityou.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jamie-beck4/support
For those of you not wanting to work remotely, today I am going to be talking about jobs in the transportation sector which is consider an essential service sector during shelter in place. Transportation is the backbone of getting supplies from point a to point b so that all of our essential services for food and medical can still function. You can go back to the podcast where I talked about library resources and a database called Learning Express. On learning express you can prep for the Commercial Driver’s License Test or a Civil Service Exam if the job you are applying for requires either one of these. We thank those who are working tirelessly in transportation and risking their own health to bring goods to those in need. You worked hard, you had a full year of gigs booked, your name was in lights or print, people knew your name, they bought tickets to your show or exhibit and now……….you are on the brink of being a starving artist yet again. What’s an artist to do? First and foremost, congratulate yourself that you made it. You pushed past the sterotypes that you were labeled with and pursued your passion and embraced your creativity and now, more than ever you need to press into that and Reinvent yourself in this new economy. In the past few weeks I have seen ads for performances virtually all over my feed and I have seen people helping support artists through things like Patreon. I love seeing the community come together to help support the arts, so I wanted to do my part and provide a few other ideas as you pursue your passion and not have to sell out and get a “real job” just yet. Make a Patreon Teach on Udemy, Teachable, Skillshare, etc. Create a Class or performance for Students on Outschool Create Curriculum for Teachers Pay Teachers Approach Libraries about Summer Programs Approach Foundations about potential grants, fellowships, residencies https://drive.google.com/file/d/19U-KAYTiDnoU1Y7vZxgUWcXjNJeS1Eog/view?usp=sharing May your passion sustain you to continue to pursue your dreams and you remain resilient in adversity. Hi everyone, it’s Jamie from Legit you and I have been meaning to get into podcasting for 5 years and I can’t think of a better time given all that is going on in the world with the Corona Virus and with people being unemployed, quarantined, and with stay in place orders.  As you may or may not already know, I am a career educator and the majority of my work is about family work life balance and increasing the positive connotation or work, for example, helping you shift from a job where you dread Mondays to a job where you feel you are contributing value and that work and life mesh in a way that what you do is who you are and who you are is how you earn your money. Over the next few months, daily I am going to be podcasting with a few quick tips to help you use your time and energy away from work, busyness, commuting, and school to focus on you and how can make a career change, start a new career, go back to school, or start a business that is more in alignment with who you are. I know a lot of you have been reaching out to me asking about all these “business opportunities” floating around and if I think they are a good opportunity to work from home. The long and short of it…..no, I would be leery about anything that wants money, seems too good to be true, and that promises too much too quick. But here are four quick tips on how to start earning some money quickly if you are finding you and your family are struggling while you are not earning a paycheck. 1.  Look up unclaimed property 2. Take in a roommate 3. Provide child or elderly care 4. Start a gig based job. I hope these tips were helpful, subscribe and check back daily for more tips on how to navigate unprecedented changes in our world, economy, and life as it relates to school, work, and career. Have a blessed day. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jamie-beck4/support
