Description

My name is Wendell Logan Dixon, and I am a Christian, a husband, a pastor, and now an aspiring podcaster. Everyone else has a voice in the wilderness, so why not add mine to the rest of the cacophony? In this show, I hope to provide talks and interviews about faith, life, and a little bit of everything in between. Join me as I interview guests, share articles, and speak words that I hope are, at the very least, acceptable.

In this episode of Acceptable Words, I review and comment on a fine article written by Mark Tooley on the Juicy Ecumenism blog. In it, he discusses why this General Conference will be the last one of any significance for the United Methodist Church. I also talk about why I believe the Cumberland Presbyterian Church trails about 5-10 years behind the United Methodist Church in terms of following social and cultural trends. Key Takeaways: Why it's important to understand the beliefs and practices of different Christian denominations. The issue of LGBTQ inclusion is a hot button that needs to be addressed Scripturally. The regionalization of the United Methodist Church allows different regions to have their own rules and policies. The Reconquista movement aims to reclaim conservative values within liberal denominations. Conservative members in liberal denominations face challenges and should probably consider alternative options. These changes within denominations have a significant impact on their future and membership. The United Methodist Church is experiencing a decline and is likely to face further liberalization, leading to the exit of traditionalist churches and clergy. The Cumberland Presbyterian Church is following a similar trajectory and needs to take action to preserve its biblical foundation. The clergy pool in many denominations is shrinking, and young people pursuing ministry may look elsewhere. Denominations are becoming less important institutionally in America, and American Christianity is becoming more post-denominational. This is probably one of the most important episodes of Acceptable Words I’ve ever done. Rev. Rian Lewis and talk about what it means to hold to the authority of Scripture while serving in denominations that seem to be rejecting Scripture on key issues like human sexuality and even the divinity and exclusivity of Jesus Christ. How does one navigate such treacherous waters? Listen and join us on this journey. This is a public episode. I take the time to respond to an article published by ChurchLeaders.com that brought to light a comment made by Rev. Dr. Harry Reeder III during his talk at a recent Ligonier conference. In this short episode, I rant and rave about why we should just leave some things along. (Yes, I realize my own hypocrisy. Lol.)  Resources: Is a Paper Bible Better Than a Bible App? This was a livestream where I just kind of went off about why I'm always "picking on" the Baptists. Honestly, it's mostly because they have the largest voice in evangelical culture, and that voice is not infallible and sometimes needs to be corrected. I also talk about how conservative evangelical churches in Pope County, Arkansas have irresponsibly handled the issue of whether or not our county will have casino. I'm not pro-casino or anti-casino, but I am pro-Gospel, and salvation is not by faith plus an anti-casino political position. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/logandixon/support This is a public episode. The NAMB of the SBC are encouraging southern pastors to lose their southern accents so that they can be all things to all men, but is this really neccesary? Why is it still cool to take shots at Russell Moore? Also, if Baptist churches and pastors aren't happy with the SBC, why won't they just leave? After all, they're all autonomous. Finally, I discuss how churches in SBC are essentially only connected to the convention through a tenuous string of money that goes into the Cooperative Program. Resources:Build a Dinghy - Logan DixonSBC Enlists Asian Man to Rebuke Pastors With Southern Accent for Sounding DumbWhy We Are No Longer SBC - Josh Buice--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/logandixon/support This is a public episode. On our last episode of The Monday Morning Megaphone, my wife brought up the sermon that I preached at the 2019 Spring Meeting of the Arkansas Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. I thought I would take this opportunity to share that sermon with you. I was very honored to have been pastor of a church that was willing to host the presbytery meeting at this time, and I was even more honored to have been asked to preach at this meeting. This was a timely message that the Lord gave me, and I pray that this will be heard as a cry for the authority of Scripture in the life of the Church. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/logandixon/support This is a public episode.
