Hey Folks!  It's been close to a year since I've uploaded an episode of Going Viral.  Due to business issues and personal activities getting overwhelming, the show took a back seat.  I am uploading this quick episode to announce that I will be restarting the show with a new name.  It will now be called The Provider Wellness Podcast.  I have decided to get more focused on a much needed subject and that is healthcare provider health and wellness.  The show will maintain much of its original format but I will be dialed in a bit more on this important issue.  Thanks to all who have hung in there with me and I look forward to this next chapter!  Check back often for more episodes pertaining to health and wellness for healthcare providers and caregivers.  Please send your questions to goingviralpodcast@gmail.comWebsite:  goingviral.buzzsprout.comPlease go to providersymposium.com to learn more about The Provider Wellness Symposium. Thanks for listening and please subscribe and share this episode.
Matthew speaks with Erik Milosevich.  He is a recently retired 25-year veteran of the Santa Monica Police Department.  Before that, he was a sniper in a recon unit in the US Army.  He is also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a Krav Maga instructor.  During his tenure as a police officer, he became aware of the need for engaging in self care if he was to be an effective officer and a normally functioning individual.  This led him down a path of training in yoga, breath work, meditation, and effective communication.  He turned that information into training programs for the police department.  He teaches such things as verbal deescalation, self defense, meditation, and the Wim Hoff Method breathwork technique.  This is an interesting conversation on the culture of poor self care in professions like law enforcement and healthcare.  Erik's website:awokenwarriers.comThe Wim Hoff Method:YouTube Video describing the methodCheck back often for more episodes pertaining to health and wellness and issues concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. Matthew speaks with Todd Steinberg.  He is the CEO of Komuso Design and the co-inventor of a device called the Switch.  It is a device that assists with breathing exercises and meditation.  It is essentially a metal straw that is stainless steel and designed to be attractive enough to wear as a piece of jewelry.  One uses it to facilitate proper breathing exercises and to slow breathing down with switches one from the sympathetic (stressed) to the parasympathetic (calm) state.  To use it, one takes a deep breath through the nose, holds it, places the switch in the mouth, and allows the breath to release (not blow) through the straw. It is engineered to create a 7 second exhalation in an adult.  If one were to do this 4 to 5 times in a row, one would feel a release of tension and feel more relaxed.  Plus, it causes one to pay attention to their breathing which means one is now meditating as well.  For anyone who is interested in checking out the Switch device, you can follow this link and receive 15% off your order:komusodesign.com/matthew-zinderCheck back often for more episodes pertaining to health and wellness and issues concerning the COVID-19 pandemic.
