Description

A podcast that asks guests, such as Stephen Fry, David Mitchell, Caroline Quentin, Ross Noble, Lee Mack, Arabella Weir & Rob Brydon, for five things which they’d like to put in a Time Capsule. They can choose anything from an item, to a memory, a film or even a country. Four of them are things they want to preserve but one has to be something they’re happy to bury and never have to think about again.

Hosted by Michael Fenton Stevens.

Podcast of the Week in The Times & The Guardian.

Love the podcasts, Mike, from here in Australia. A suggestion for next year, perhaps Suzie Dent would be an interesting guest. Merry Christmas to you all. Cheers Gary

What a thoroughly nice man Chesney Hawkes is. Listening to this makes me ashamed to have previously considered him to be a figure of fun.

Damn, the stories Danny JJ has... He could do a dull podcast of his own on those memories and meetings with his heroes/inspirations, etc.

A truly wonderful insight to living in Central London. Ben includes in his Time Capsule some real gems which I'll be attempting seek out the next time I'm up there. Of course Mike Fenton Stevens is as brilliant as ever.

I am sure that we all have that hidden croc of gold, that thing we absolutely treasure and don't want to share. I am fortunate, if you can call it that, to have several. One of the things I hoard is a podcast that bundles fascinating and friendly in the one package. Firing up an episode of My Time Capsule is like sitting down in front of a warming fire with your favourite drink, while a wild storm does its best to dismantle the world outside. Everyone talks about the assault on attention, all those things that batter the brain as we move through the digital world. I work in an Audiology and this has made me so much more aware of how much uninvited noise there is today. As the podcast starts MIchael Fenton-Stevens' voice arrives, a balm for tired ears. Michael comes across just as I suspect he is, someone who is good company whether it is over a pint at the pub, or across the kitchen table. Many of the guests are known to Michael's UK audience, which gives a UK centric audience a headstart, yet his gentle approach and incisive questioning draws brings out the humanity in his subjects. Snapshots of lives we think we know about, facets of a character that are new to us are the magic that transports listeners beyond that fireside. I started a number of episodes in and began by cherry picking people whom I recognised, I very soon ploughed through all of the episodes and listen to them as they come. It doesn't matter that the person is a vague face you have come across on screen, someone you have never encountered or an entertainment hero such as the recently late Barry Crier and David Jason. You don't know me, have no reason to trust me, except that I never write reviews and yet am compelled to do so here. I occasionally wonder why this show, or even concept, has not been bought up by some A Lister or company yet; when I catch myself doing this I quickly shut the idea down before I begin to dwell on the changes that might be made. Michael, and John, please keep on weaving the magic that is MyTime Capsule. (I have no affiliation to the show, I am just a grateful fan of hard work and the crafting of beautiful art.)
