Last week the club celebrated Women and Girls round. Following our premier league match against Hawthorn, head coach David Wansbrough gathered his five international players onto a panel for a fun discussion about their hockey journey.This episode is a live recording of the panel discussion. This week Wansey and Ando return to host. David Wansbrough of-course is an Olympic champion himself and is currently transforming our women's premier league group as head coach.Lachlan Anderson heads up high performance for Hockey Victoria and is head coach of our men's premier league group, currently playing great hockey and sitting at the top of the Victorian premier league.We're super excited that the guys are presenting, fresh from Tokyo; Kookaburras assistant coach Anthony Potter and Hockeyroos assistant coach Katie Allen.Pottsie is a past camberwell state league player. KA is a Commonwealth, World Cup and Olympic gold medalist and member of the Australian Women's Team of the Century. She was, I believe, the first female head coach of a Victorian men's premier league team; winning a premiership in her first year. Episode 30 - Phil MerrimanHamish Ridland presents Phil Merriam, who joined Camberwell in Minkey and played through the ranks to State League 1. Phil then moved into coaching with stints at TEM, Powerhouse and Footscray before moving to the AFL industry working in High Performance with Hawthorn Football Club and is currently head of Strength & Conditioning at Melbourne Football Club.You'll hear how Phil got into hockey and played a role linking our generational players in the early 2000's. In this episode we'll look at what's next for our top aged juniors as they transition into seniors. We'll canvas common questions and concerns from players and families on issues including communication, selection and player safety; and we'll meet a couple recently graduated players to hear about their experiences of the program and playing senior hockey.Men's and Women's coordinators Tim Oldham and Pip Mann will detail the transition programs and pre-season arrangements. Liv Bell joins our hosting crew to present Women's Premier League coaching team Geoff Perriman & David Wansbrough.Geoff Perriman as you'll learn has extensive experience. An AHL player himself he has coached Waverley and Hawthorn Women's Premier League, the Tasmanian Tigers state team and secured no less than 9 APS premierships with the Caulfield Grammar girls.Wansey needs little introduction to our hockey listeners: Camberwell Life Member, Left Inner in the club's Team of the Century and Olympic Kookaburra with over 200 international caps. He's previously coached our Men's Premier League and many junior club and state teams.With some personnel moving on, others in Perth with the national program, young players pushing for selection and a new coaching team; 2020 was to be an exciting transformational year for our Women's Premier League group. you'll hear about the coaches' careers, how they managed the challenges of 2020 and kept the group connected, our development progress and how they see season 2021 developing. Episode 27 - MPL coach Lachlan AndersonAround this time last year our Men's Premier League program were looking to appoint a new head coach; and after some discussions were delighted to secure top candidate in Lachlan Anderson. A strong start to the pre-season ensued with renewed purpose and determination. As you'll hear a terrific off-site camp focusing on conditioning, trust and teamwork led into training and practice matches featuring some very encouraging passages.The COVID pandemic then arrived and ultimately cancelled the season; denying many of our supporters and members the opportunity to see the group's progress and meet new coach Ando.Listen to hear about Ando's early career; playing with the Vikings and Junior Australian teams, his move into coaching at club and representative level and insight into coaching both men's and women's groups at Premier League. Suz Cannell presents an entertaining chat with masters player Des Yap who was encouraged into returning to our summer competition four years back and has continued playing ever since.Outside hockey, Dr Desiree Yap is a specialist O&G with a passion for women’s health.She is a qualified specialist in both Australia and the United Kingdom and has a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from James Cook University. On 26 January 2020, she was appointed Member of the Order of Australia for her ‘significant service to women’s health and to medicine.’Des was on the board of Women's Health Victoria for eight years and served as their chair for two. In this episode Jim takes the hosting chair to present legendary Australian Umpire and Umpire Manager Minka Woolley and Queensland international umpire Aleisha Neumann.Minka Woolley is the Umpire Manager for Tokyo, her fifth Olympic event while Aleisha Neumann will be officiating at her first games in Tokyo.You'll hear about their journey into umpiring, their memories of Olympic selection and get an insight into the onerous physical and mental preparation required by a modern official at this level.Just this week Minka received an Award of Merit from Hockey Australia with awards committee member Peri Buckley saying“Minka Woolley is highly respected at all levels of hockey for her honest, dedicated, compassionate and professional approach not only as an Umpires Manager but also for her overall coaching, encouragement and development of umpires."Peri continues"She is an outstanding role model for the sport.”Congratulations Minka!Aleisha obtained her FIH international badge in 2014 and Tokyo will be her first games. Episode 23 - Mental Health First AidFor many years the club has had an excellent physical health program. First team doctor Roy Carey literally wrote the book on sports medicine in Victorian Hockey, Dr Malcom Clark has generously supported the club with first aid supplies and training; and a host of physiotherapist and specialist coaches support the playing group.Last year however, following the tragedy of one of our junior players taking their own life, we realised our mental health support could be improved. Through the counsel of Dr Michael Carr Greg the club embarked on a groundbreaking program to equip a large cross section of our members with the knowledge and skills to offer first aid for mental health problems.This week Tom Winter presents Liz Grant, Kerri Hendry and Julia Patterson; three of the more than twenty members who have completed the Mental Health First aid training course. Episode 22- Meg LanningBack in March this year, on International Women's Day, over eight-six thousand fans packed the MCG to witness Meg Lanning's Australian team defeat India to win their fifth world cup title. Only the third cricket captain, male or female, to secure a World Cup on home soil; Meg has become one of the biggest names in world sport and sits amongst our most successful athletes of all time.This week we're excited to introduce a new hosting team. Sarah Forsyth is joined by her sister Steph for a chat with their great friend Meg. We'll hear about the drama of that World Cup tournament including the rain in Sydney and Katy Perry on stage in Melbourne. Sport Australia is a peak government body managing a $400m budget and overseeing around 100 national sporting associations with a brief covering everything from grass roots participation to elite performance programs.This week Wansey is back presenting Sport Australia CEO Rob Dalton.Before his Sport Australia role, Rob of-course will be familiar to many listeners for his 10 year tenure as chair of Hockey Victoria. With Melbourne in hard lockdown many businesses are closed, outdoor movement is restricted and an evening curfew is in force. This has caused our schools to substantially close and moved the great majority of students to remote and flexible learning from home.We asked three of our members, all education professionals, how this was working and to share their experiences and insights during this most unusual year.Caitlin Smith, Premier League Goal Keeper and Kindergarten Teacher is joined by Lena Perriman, Women's Pennant A player, club Mental Health First Aider and Primary School Teacher; and Lachie Hunter from episode 15 returns, Men's Pennant A player and Secondary School Teacher.We're excited to introduce Kelli Simmons to the hosting team. Kelli has been a member of the club since about 2002, when her daughter Britt started playing. Kelli has coordinated the Minkey program, now known as HookIn2Hockey, served on Junior Committees, dabbled in playing Masters and has recently trained to be one of our 25 Mental Health First Aiders.Throughout her career, Kelli has taught in all three Victorian education sectors within Melbourne and rural Victoria. She has worked in classrooms, school leadership teams and system leadership teams.Currently, Kelli works as a Learning Leader & Co-Designer with Ed Partnerships International. Her role entails the co-design, co-facilitation and evaluation of professional learning programs, research, curriculum and Department of Education initiatives. Kelli is also a mentor to a number of teachers at different stages of their careers.
