In this episode, I chat with Samantha Birch who is a placenta specialist. Sam lives on the Gold Coast and started her business when her doula clients asked about taking their placentas in a capsule. She studied the placenta in depth and how to make the capsules safely, then began offering it as a full service. She covers the Gold Coast and surrounding areas including NNSW, encapsulating and teaching all things placenta to expecting women and birth workers. In this latest episode I speak with l Amanda who is an inspiring mama of two boys Artemis and Phoenix. Amanda shares her first homebirth story & opens up about why things didn’t go exactly to plan. She also shares what she did to feel more confident for her second homebirth which she ended up freebirthing without her midwife. This episode I speak with mama of one - Ksenia who had her first birth in India. Ksenia (who is originally from Ukraine) shares how she found herself in India right before the pandemic hit.  During that time she found her partner (now husband) and fell pregnant with a baby girl. Looking for the most natural approach to birth they chose a midwife ran natural birth center in kochi (Kerala).  Although the birth didn't go as planned Ksenia talks about her experience of surrendering, letting go and healing physically and emotionally from the feeling of failure & not having her birth go the way she planned. Ksenia facilitates women's circles online and in person curating yoga dance classes where she combines yoga, dance and flowing feminine energy movements with music and sacred chants to reconnect with our divine feminine energy and expression of love.
In this podcast, I chat with mama of one - Sonya. Sonya is originally from Germany but lives in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Sonya opens up about her first homebirth experience in Mexico during the pandemic. She also shares about the rite of passage in the Mayan culture when it comes to becoming a midwife. To become a midwife in the Mayan culture you need to be a mother yourself, go to many births,- take on that wisdom and experience and then you are allowed to practice as a midwife. In this episode I speak to inspiring mama Tamara who shares her positive birth story. Tam was told that she might have trouble falling pregnant because she has endometriosis . She was recommended a naturopath who helped her manage her diet and prepare her body to fall pregnant. Tamara prepared a lot for her birth - especially mentally. One of her favourite books that helped her was ‘Birthing from Within.’ She says the power of the mind is incredible! She had dreamt of having a drug free waterbirth during her pregnancy & did the work to prepare her for this. Tam read a passage from the book Birthing from Within that really stuck with her which is ‘labour is hard work.’ As someone who loves a challenge she was up for it ! Tam was fortunate enough to have a solid supportive birth team and felt like she got to express herself and have the birth she always wanted. Tam gives a lot of amazing tips for women who are about to give birth & also tips for postpartum !! You will love Tam’s openness and also humour! Such a fun interview.
