Season 2 Ep 7 - Marcus Pinn

Season 2 Ep 7 - Marcus Pinn

2020-05-0801:16:38

He’s the brains behind movie site Pinnland Empire, contributor to the Pink Smoke, Co-Host of the Zebras in America podcast, kick ass, smooth music mixer and beats jammer and unreasonably tall but utterly delightful and full of wisdom, you know him, you love him, you’ve probably tweeted him a still from an obscure black n white Latvian film in the hopes to catch him out but failed, it’s the one, it’s the only Marcus Pinn!
Our guest is actor, director, comedian and musician, Herbert Russell. He most recently appeared in the brand new Netflix show, Hollywood and has had roles in Stepmom, Boiler Room, Secretary, Freaks and Geeks, Robot Chicken, Bad Ass 2: Bad Asses, Parks and Recreation, Grace and Frankie, Ray Donovan and many more.We also talk about the 90s movie House Arrest, Herbert's start in the business, the Queen's over protection of swans and more!
Our guest today is a towering and phenomenal individual. He’s a self-confessed comic, tech and TV nerd, a film fan, a mixologist, a podcaster and a member of one of the coolest races on the planet, Canadians. He also happens to be my cousin. He’s Michael Goldberg and he’s coming live from Winnipeg.
I talked to Susan Leighton - film fan and renowned editor, reviewer and interviewer for https://www.1428elm.com, https://www.diaboliquemagazine.com and many others. We talked film journalism, interview technique, what annoys us and more!May 1st 2020, Bandcamp is waiving its fees for all music artists on there so we played some tracks from the following bands, support them if you can!https://www.herbertrussell.bandcamp.comhttps://www.hallelujahthehills.bandcamp.comhttps://www.jeawallace.bandcamp.comhttps://www.todgotoverexcited.bandcamp.comhttps://www.johnnyunicorn.bandcamp.comhttps://www.miscplumbingfixtures.bandcamp.com
We never thought it could happen but Cross Talk has achieved the impossible. We have brought together for the first time since their break up in a dumpster, the band that will forever remain in our hearts for their unique vision and pungent smell. In 1990 this band would go on to create a musical wave of innovation not seen since the invention of the keytar. Combining grubby wafts, unkempt hair, coats flecked with vomit and animal blood and the insertion of a pristine woodwind instrument into their anus, they created a sensation in the early 90s indie music scene that would go on to influence Lenny Valve and Cocksters, Ernie Pephepperton Flange III and Grunt Foreskin, the Dutch heavy metal rock band that like to hump tubas. Ladies and Genitals will you all please rub it together like grasshoppers at an orgy for Matt, Moe and Doc the original members and line up of Hobo Butt Flute!
Our guest is the tall, eloquent, self confessed dork who writes for Film School Rejects, is host of the Still Awesome screening nights for the Alamo Drafthouse in Winchester, Virginia, is the co-host of the official podcast of the Alamo Drafthouse in Winchester, Virgina, The In the mouth of Dorkness podcast, is co-host, with his wife, of the Comic Book Couples Counseling podcast, is a world authority on William Shatner and Star Trek 5 and, more importantly than any of that gumph, his wife, Lisa, writes exceptionally well for the aftermoviediner.com, He knows his ninjas, he’s confident about cult film, he’s communicative about comic books and I bet he can also boils a mean egg, it’s the one, and only, Brad Gullickson.
This is the inaugural sail of the good ship Cross Talk 2020. Which is what I thought this show might be called if it was an Italian Grindhouse sci-fi movie from the 70s. Maybe with the addition of the word Bronx in the title. The last season of this show ran mid-year 2014 which was 6 years ago - EvilDead 1 and Evil Dead 2 had 6 years between their release dates, so I feel like I am in strong company. The guest on this first show, is a gent of the highest order, an actor, voice over artist, comedian, writer, teacher, performer and renaissance man, meaning he likes paintings of nude curvaceous females. Some call him Sky bite, some call him Orville, he’s the one, the only, Peter Spellos!
This week we speak to horror & sci-fi writer, reviewer, podcaster and enthusiast, Suzanne Cappelletti, about everything from Argento to Carpenter, remakes to shaky cam, Star Trek to American football. We, also, catch up with the lovely Miss Jamie Jenkins after her terrific Birthday, we get some turntable mixed, horror themed, hip hop from awesome DJ Chuckie Steel AND we get comedy from our Aussie friend Ogg Thirteen with the help of previous Cross Talk guest Matt Farley!ENJOY!
This week we get to have a good old chinwag with YouTube comedy music video creator extraordinaire, actress, writer, musician and comedian Rachel Bloom all about her start, her inspiration, women in Hollywood, behind closed doors in the writer's room, YouTube and her new TV Show pilot with Showtime 'The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'.We also have the usual and utterly wonderful Jamie Jenkins AND comedy from our resident Aussie mirth maker Ogg Thirteen.ENJOY!
This week I am rushed and unprepared but thanks to the wonderful music of Lucas 'Roo' Raymond, the brilliant guesting talent of Jamie Jenkins, the hilarious comedy of Ogg Thirteen and a lengthy, awesome and action packed interview with Jade Lindley we manage to pull together a great show. Enjoy!
On this week's Cross Talk we check in with Jamie Jenkins and talk Expendables, we get a time report from our down under Aussie correspondent Ogg Thirteen, we have AMAZING music from band Ari and the Alibis and we talk at length with Peter Osmond about his life, movies and we answer listeners questions.ENJOY!
This week I stare into the face of death and laugh as I carry on an epic 2hr show with the Bronx on fire around me! Guests Jamie Jenkins and Kirk Howle bring the knowledge, the charm, the funny and the enthusiasm and I bring the slightly grumpy sense of impending doom. There's music from Leopardactyl and Kirkapella and comedy from Ogg Thirteen! Enjoy!
The most epically lengthed episode of Cross Talk we will probably ever do. We go down under with our Oz correspondent Ogg Thirteen, we stop in on Jamie Jenkins and find out all about the live video version of the 100th episode of her show Devour The Podcast, we have fantastic pop music from ChrisyD and then the beard from The Bird and The Beard, the cinematic beef slinger himself Gary Hill and I get into a never ending pile of questions putting the world to rights as we go.From beards to TV to time travel, everything comes under our watchful and vicious gaze.Enjoy!
This week, wow what a show we have for you. There's comedy, I answer all your burning questions, I call Jamie Jenkins, fail embarrassingly twice and she calls us back. There's music from Weird Paul and then we talk to the man himself in a long, all encompassing, awesome interview. We also get everyone's desert island movie and music picks, talk naughty food and generally fool about till the whole thing ends!ENJOY!
This week we present to you another absolutely bursting at the seems episode of Cross Talk.We visit with Jamie Jenkins and learn all about the strange neighbourhood boy that haunts her waking moments, we have music from some Miscellaneous Plumbing Fixtures and we talk in-depth about anything and everything with special make-up and effects guru Tom Sullivan who worked on The Evil Dead.He gives us stories and opinions broad, rare and hilarious.Come listen!!
This week it is my undecided pleasure to have musical and movie making genius and dear pal Matt Farley on the show. The man behind every corner of the weird world of Motern Media sits down with me to discuss lazy journalism, internet fame, making money from music, the movies and lots and lots of poop. There is also music from Milky Onions! There was meant to be a phone call to Jamie Jenkins but sadly that was all my fault and a misunderstanding. It was all a bit rushed and I apologise... ENJOY!
Another week another Cross Talk and this time we have music from the wonderful and talented Abby Denson from www.citysweettooth.com, I get all serious about the world and its borders and we welcome first time guest Jason Ritter (no not that one) on to the show where he proceeds to take his first shot of liquor, tells us all about The Rock's torrid love affair with his own Mum and why hillbillies will never get laid.Check it out!
Episode 3 is here where we have wonderful and varied music by Mr. Matt Farley, better known to the world as Motern Media, We surprise the werewolf loving Jamie Jenkins again and we talk to the author, podcaster and my personal, job quitting hero Jeffery X Martin.Tune in, drop out, nod off!
This week's show we have fantastic music from Amy Lynn and the Gunshow a New York songstress with an awesome RnB, jazz backing band, then we have talking genitals with our new 'randomly call Jamie Jenkins' segment, then we learn all about The Stath, The Hammer and 2 new, great indie movies from Jason Hewlett and John Fallon. You won't want to miss this one, it's jam packed, funny and fresh despite me being hollow, miserable and tired!! ENJOY!
