Whatever with Jason Soto

2020 sure was a thing, huh? But that's not gonna stop Jason and Mary from having a Christmas Special, nosiree! And this episode is indeed special. That's about all we're going to say! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Years!

This week, we're gonna do something different and celebrate not only 40+ episodes of the show, but our one year anniversary! Listen to Jason and Mary talk about their childhoods, Jason's podcasting history, and what lead to the creation of Whatever! And we throw in some murder as well!

I admit, we talk about a lot of gross things on the show but I think this episode might have hit it's peak as we ask the age old question: What Does Gwyneth Paltrow's Orgasm smell like? Only one way to find out!!

Mary returns to the show and tells us her complete thoughts on "Sleepaway Camp" before we pick next month's Movie of the Month. Then we read some fan fiction that was sent our way and talk about the weather? Man, are we running out of topics already? It's only the 42nd episode! Oh yeah, the show is officially a year old now! While Mary had to take a sick day, Jason was joined by brand new friend Lisa Leaheey from The Critical Critics for the exciting conclusion to #spookyseason! Jason and Lisa discuss Halloween decorations, movie trailers that scared them as kids, movies they TOTALLY shouldn't have seen as kids, which movie in The Human Centipede series is the best (the answer may shock you!) and finally they have a 45-minute discussion on this month's Movie of the Month "Sleepaway Camp" which features unique kills and SO! Dear friends of the show, your life is about to be changed forever. You will remember the date you listened to this podcast because nothing will ever be the same again. Well, Jason and Mary (who's back in the present btw) is convinced, ALLEGEDLY, that they found a movie that beloved actor Henry Winkler would rather forget, ALLEGEDLY, and they sort of discuss it, while talking about VHS tapes ALLEGEDLY, things they watched when they were younger ALLEGEDLY, Jason's internet issues ALLEGEDLY, and a weird Mixtape song that you gotta hear to believe. ALLEGEDLY. 

If you were wondering why Jason and Mary took an entire month off from show, here's the reason: Mary was transported back in time to 1997 and seems to be stuck there. Thankfully, she was able to still call into the show. Hopefully she'll make it back to the present in one piece. But in the meantime, they talk about the movies Jason saw while on break, some shows Mary have seen while on break, hard drive issues, another round of crazy Florida stories, and discuss the latest movie pick "Galaxy of Terror" featuring a strange cast and a giant maggot.

When trying to sell a show to networks, they ask you to put together a "small portfolio" that details the best of what your should has to offer. If the opportunity ever rises where Jason and Mary have to do that, they'll just present this episode because they talk about LITERALLY everything in this one episode. From "Storage Wars" to spoilers to music videos to Wal-Mart selling sex toys to cups full of...something. We have it all!

In this episode, Jason and Mary discuss weird crushes on people who are serial killers, notoriously slutty, cartoon characters, and Civil War Generals. This conversation leads to several weird places, folks, you might want to brace yourselves. We also visit several Florida Men and Women.

And if you think we're not gonna spend 45 minutes talking about this and not do it, well....why don't you just have a seat right there?

Well, last week, we paid a visit to Florida Man, might as well see what Florida Woman is up to. And, oooh boy...it's a something. But not only do Jason and Mary make a pit stop to Florida, they also discuss their Whatever Watches Movie of the Month and discuss the dark comedy/thriller "11:14".

In this very special episode of Whatever with Jason Soto, Jason welcomes former podcast partner and long time friend Rachel Thuro to fill in as guest host and they talk about their demons and internal struggles. Ok, not really. They talk about taking babies to movie theaters, the next 90's kids toy to get a movie, and Rachel plays Fact or Bullshit to find out if Jason has a weatherman cousin in St. Louis or not.

When you wake up each morning, you never know what new thing you'll learn that day. Maybe the name of a certain star in the sky. Or why volcanoes randomly blow. Or how come frogs taste like Tootsie Rolls when you lick them. Sometimes it only takes 25 episodes to finally get the groove of your own podcast. But groove we did find. Local commercials, things we want to do when the pandemic is over, the origins of Carl's Jr, and SOOOOOOO much more.
