This is a follow up to Meeting 30 made necessary due to additional questions that came in after the meeting was nearly over.  Some good stuff was expounded upon.  If you haven't yet listened to Meeting 30, I highly recommend doing that before listening to this one.David A in his own words:  I came up in solution-oriented AA. I try to use the Big Book as my barometer, in that, whatever I regard as God’s will/ positive action in recovery I try to reconcile with the Big Book. Some are sicker than others. I regard myself as one of the sicker. Not in that my war stories are more extravagant, but in that I have to hold myself to high spiritual standards or I get spiritually sick pretty quick. This is a unique meeting in that we are doing a follow-up Q and A with our guest speaker from this last Friday’s meeting.  At the very end of that meeting, as we needed to close up, he said something that triggered a ton more questions, both from the listening audience, as well as from me.  And we just didn’t have time to dig into something that I found very important.  So much so, that I felt to ask David if he would be willing to come back to do an additional Q and A.  Gratefully he agreed, and here we have it.  Reco12 is a self-supporting service and we appreciate your help in keeping it that way.  We gratefully accept contributions to help cover the costs of the Zoom platform, podcast platform, web hosting, and administrative costs.  To contribute, you can go to https://www.reco12.com/support  or you can click the link to PayPal (https://www.paypal.me/reco12)  in the chat of the live meeting.  When you contribute, please specify the meeting number.  This is meeting number 31.   For those of you here live, you will notice that the set up is a little different.  Typically we do this in a webinar format where the audience is pretty restricted in ability to interact.  Today, we chose to do a Zoom meeting where the live audience has more interaction with the speaker and the host.  We are only recording the audio of this meeting, so any video will not be saved in any form.  When we get to the Q and A part, if you have a question, you may either type it in the chat and I can read it, or if you choose to ask it live, please raise your hand and I will call on you and you can ask it vocally.  Just know that your voice will be recorded and used on the podcast that will be released in the next 24 hours.   If you have not yet listened to David’s talk from last week, I would highly recommend that you hit stop on this episode and go back and listen to episode 30, called “David A – Primary and Secondary Addictions and God” from January 8, 2021.  Then come back and listen to this additional Q and A so that you get the background of what many of these questions are about.  Today’s speaker, Adam, is a member of AA and he mentions a few other fellowships.  To learn more about those fellowships, you can link to them here:  i.     https://aa.orgii.     https://www.pornaddictsanonymous.org/iii.     https://adultchildren.org/meeting-searc                                            iv.     https://oa.org/v.  https://twowayprayer.org/Support the show (https://www.reco12.com/support)

Here is a little about our speaker today, Justin B, in his own words:  I am a son of God and a recovering addict to lust.  I have been blessed with sobriety, one day at a time, since June 19, 2015.  In my journey in recovery, I have learned many lessons.  One of the primary is that "I don't got this".  I have learned that when the phrase, "I got this!" crosses my mind or lips, that I better put my head on a swivel and become very aware of my situation and surrender it to my Higher Power immediately.  That is kind of the basis of the essay that I will be reading for the podcast.  I am going to read an essay that I wrote after an experience I had with my 5th birthday in sobriety and soon thereafter.Merry Christmas to you all!  Today’s Podcast and meeting will be a bit different since today is Christmas Day.  And, to be honest, I am spending it with my family.  This was pre-recorded and scheduled to be released today, on Christmas Day.  I know that addiction does not rest on holidays, in fact, for many, holidays are the hardest days.  That being the case, I felt it important to still release something for you to get a little bit of that daily bread that helps us make it through today, one day at a time.  So, let’s get to it.Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting.  We are an organization whose addictions include alcohol, drugs, lust and sex, food and gambling, just to name a few.  We come together from all places, faiths and backgrounds to learn the similarities of addiction and to gain tools and hope from others who are walking a similar path.  We invite recovering addicts with at least 1 year sobriety and who are actively working their recovery in their respective fellowships to share their experience, strength and hope on a live Zoom meeting, typically each Friday at 12:00 pm central time, for 20-25 minutes.  Then, we, the live audience, would typically get the opportunity to ask questions of the speaker for another 20-25 minutes.  If you would like to be a guest speaker in a future meeting, please go to www.reco12.com to learn more and submit your email address there to receive weekly invitations or to submit to become a guest speaker.  Reco12 is an ad-free service and we appreciate your help in keeping it that way. This is meeting number 28.Thanks again for tuning in to the  Reco12 weekly speaker meeting for all addicts and those wanting to learn more about addiction and the recovery therefrom.    We will be back live on New Years Day with a very cool guest, Tom B, a member of AA and sober since 1985.  His topic will be “My Path to a Meditation Practice:  20 Years of Struggle”.  If you have not yet gone to www.reco12.com and submitted your email address (you only need to do it once), please get on the invitation list, so you can join us live, each Friday at 12:00 noon, central time.  Support the show (https://www.reco12.com/support)
Guest Intro and Bio:  My name is Antonella. My parents separated when I was two years old. I had a very dysfunctional childhood which led to a life of unmanageability and maladaptive thinking acting in self will.  Using drugs, alcohol, food and relationships for ease and comfort to cope. In the midst of an unhappy marriage my 14-year-old was expelled from school for using drugs. It was suggested to us to send my child to a treatment center. It was there, when I read the 12 Steps on the wall, that I realized I needed this help myself. This started my recovery journey and the qualification to several 12 step programs.Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting.  We are an organization whose addictions include alcohol, drugs, lust and sex, food and gambling, just to name a few.  We come together from all places, faiths and backgrounds to learn the similarities of addiction and to gain tools and hope from others who are walking a similar path.  We invite recovering addicts with at least 1 year sobriety and who are actively working their recovery in their respective fellowships to share their experience, strength and hope on a live Zoom meeting, each Friday at 12:00 pm central time, for 20-25 minutes.  Then, we, the live audience, get the opportunity to ask questions of the speaker for another 20-25 minutes.  In order to ask questions, please type them in the Q and A link at the bottom of your Zoom window.  If you are hearing this podcast recorded and would like to participate as a live audience member, or if you would like to be a guest speaker in a future meeting, please go to www.reco12.com to learn more and submit your email address there to receive weekly invitations or to submit to become a guest speaker.  When we line up a speaker for a meeting, we ask them to seek guidance on what and how to present so that they can reflect the light that they have been given.  That light will inspire hope, meaning, worth, and growth in us, the listening audience. Reco12 is an ad-free service and we appreciate your help in keeping it that way.  We gratefully accept contributions to help cover the costs of the Zoom platform, podcast platform, web hosting, and administrative costs.  To contribute, you can go to https://www.reco12.com/support  or you can click the link to PayPal https://www.paypal.me/reco12  in the chat of the live meeting.  When you contribute, please specify the meeting number.  This is meeting number 27.If you have found value in this service, please take a moment to go to the podcast platform of your choosing and leave a rating and review.  It helps us work our 12th step by carrying the message of recovery to more addicts who suffer. We will be back live on New Years Day with a very cool guest, Tom B, a member of AA and sober since 1985.  His topic will be “My Path to a Meditation Practice:  20 Years of Struggle”.  If you have not yet submitted your email address, please get on the invitation list!Intro music is “Standing Still” by Cory Ellsworth and Randy Kartchner, performed by Mike Eldred and Elizabeth Wolfe.  This song, and/or the entire soundtrack for the future Broadway musical, “Crosses:  A Musical of Hope”, can be purchased here:  https://music.apple.com/us/album/crosses-musical-hope-by-cory/528476262  This song is used with the  permission of Cory Ellsworth.SLAA:  https://slaafws.org/Insight Timer App:  https://bit.ly/3h2t8UvI will update this when I get the link for the HTLTG Zoom MeetingSupport the show (https://www.reco12.com/support)

Harvey E has fast become one of my best friends.  He is a sexaholic with nearly 7 years sobriety.  Since he and I first met on December 10, 2019, via Zoom, for an interview I did with him for the Journey Through Life Podcast, he has been instrumental in the current phase of my recovery and in the idea and initial development of the Reco12 Speaker Meeting.  He was the first guest speaker for this, the Reco12 project back on June 19, 2020.  I am grateful that he was able and willing to fill in this week for a spot that unexpectedly came open.  Harvey will be speaking to us today on a catchy title that I identify with all too well.  It is, “I’ve Got This…  Oops!”  I am looking forward to this talk and think it will be very helpful to many.Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting. Reco12 is an ad-free service and we appreciate your help in keeping it that way.  We gratefully accept contributions to help cover the costs of the Zoom platform, podcast platform, web hosting, and administrative costs.  To contribute, you can go to https://www.reco12.com/support  or you can click the link to PayPal (https://www.paypal.me/reco12)  in the chat of the live meeting.  When you contribute, please specify the meeting number.  This is meeting number 24.If you have also found value in Reco12, please take a moment to go to the podcast platform of your choosing and leave a rating and review.  It helps us work our 12th step by carrying the message of recovery to more addicts who suffer.https://www.sa.orghttps://www.sal12step.orgIntro and outro music is “Standing Still” by Cory Ellsworth and Randy Kartchner, performed by Mike Eldred and Elizabeth Wolfe.  This song, and/or the entire soundtrack for the future Broadway musical, “Crosses:  A Musical of Hope”, can be purchased here:  https://music.apple.com/us/album/crosses-musical-hope-by-cory/528476262  This song is used with the  permission of Cory Ellsworth.Support the show (https://www.reco12.com/support)
Let’s introduce our guest speaker for today, Bill M.Here is Bill M in his own words:  I got booze sober in 1987.  Had what is probably considered the ‘pink cloud’ phase for a few years but at about 4-5 years started to feel not right.  I struggled for the next 5 years with mild anxiety but by 10 years sober, I suffered from severe anxiety which led to a nervous breakdown at 15 years sober.  At that low point, I met a man who took me through the steps as set forth in the Big Book and am living anxiety free since.Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting. If you are hearing this podcast recorded and would like to participate as a live audience member, or if you would like to be a guest speaker in a future meeting, please go to www.reco12.com to learn more and submit your email address there to receive weekly invitations or to submit to become a guest speaker. This is meeting number 23.Keep coming back!  It works if you work it.  So work it.  You are worth it.Alcoholics Anonymous:  https://www.aa.orgAll Addicts Anonymous:  https://alladdictsanonymous.orgIntro and outro music is “Standing Still” by Cory Ellsworth and Randy Kartchner, performed by Mike Eldred and Elizabeth Wolfe.  This song, and/or the entire soundtrack for the future Broadway musical, “Crosses:  A Musical of Hope”, can be purchased here:  https://music.apple.com/us/album/crosses-musical-hope-by-cory/528476262  This song is used with the  expressed permission of Cory Ellsworth.Support the show (https://www.reco12.com/support)

Let’s introduce our guest speaker for today, Damon W, whose topic is “Controlling the Controllables”.Sentenced to sixty-five years in a Texas prison, Damon once had it all.  At 20 years old, he was a Division 1 starting quarterback, after a career-ending injury, Damon was by all outside appearances, very successful.  It all came crashing down when he turned to hard core drugs to cope with disappointments of life.  After a fateful discussion during his incarceration with a seasoned convict, Damon had a spiritual awakening. He learned a lesson about a single coffee bean that changed his whole perspective. Armed with a program of recovery, a renewed faith, and a miraculous second chance at life, Damon emerged from over seven years of prison a changed man. His story of redemption, grit and determination continues to inspire many today, and I know it will inspire you.Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting. If you are hearing this podcast recorded and would like to participate as a live audience member, or if you would like to be a guest speaker in a future meeting, please go to www.reco12.com to learn more and submit your email address there to receive weekly invitations or to submit to become a guest speaker. This is meeting number 21.Keep coming back!  It works if you work it.  So work it.  You are worth it.Outro music is “Standing Still” by Cory Ellsworth and Randy Kartchner, performed by Mike Eldred and Elizabeth Wolfe.  This song, and/or the entire soundtrack for the future Broadway musical, “Crosses:  A Musical of Hope”, can be purchased here:  https://music.apple.com/us/album/crosses-musical-hope-by-cory/528476262  This song is used with the  permission of Cory Ellsworth. To learn more about Damon, you can find his stuff here:  https://damonwest.org/#BeACoffeeBeanSupport the show (https://www.reco12.com/support)

I was introduced to Dr. Hardy through a podcast that he was a guest on, called the Richie Norton Podcast. I was in the process of developing the idea of the Reco12 Speaker Meeting Podcast and his interview with Richie Norton (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-richie-norton-show/id1493699560?i=1000473674959) spoke the language of addiction and the powerlessness of willpower so clearly that I had to reach out to him right away and ask if he would be a guest speaker. I am so grateful that he has agreed to do this. Here is his bio:Dr. Benjamin Hardy is an organizational psychologist and bestselling author of Willpower Doesn’t Work and Personality Isn’t Permanent. His blogs have been read by over 100 million people and are featured on Forbes, Fortune, CNBC, Cheddar, Big Think, and many others. He is a regular contributor to Inc. and Psychology Today and from 2015-2018, he was the #1 writer in the world on Medium.com. He and his wife Lauren adopted three children through the foster system in February 2018 and, one month later, Lauren became pregnant with twins, who were born in December of 2018. Sarah identifies as a blackout codependent. She has been a member of Codependents Anonymous for almost 5 years. Sarah spent 18 months in the rooms of CoDA attending meetings weekly. Although learning a lot about the disease of codependency, sponsorship was not a part of her meetings. Eventually, Sarah helped start a step study group within the fellowship so that members could work the steps in recovery. This still continues today. However, after yet another bottom and yet another failed relationship, Sarah needed more help than simply going to meetings. Even the coda step study was insufficient to provide Sarah with the help she desperately needed. 2.5 years ago, by the grace of God, she found a sponsor in the rooms of SLAA who believed in the undiluted message of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. 3 months later, Sarah was rocketed in the fourth dimension of existence. She went from being suicidal, anxiety ridden, and hopeless to being happy, joyous and free. Since then, Sarah has been on a mission to sponsor members of coda and share the Big Book message with those who still suffer. Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting. If you are hearing this podcast recorded and would like to participate as a live audience member, or if you would like to be a guest speaker in a future meeting, please go to www.reco12.com to learn more and submit your email address there to receive weekly invitations or to submit to become a guest speaker.  Reco12 is a self supporting project, and we appreciate your help in keeping it that way. Or, if you use Venmo, you can also contribute there.  Our handle is @Reco-Twelve. When you contribute, please specify the meeting number.  This is meeting number 13.Thanks again, Sarah!  That was a great Reco12 weekly speaker meeting for all addicts and those wanting to learn more about addiction and the recovery therefrom.  https://www.coda.orgIntro music is “Standing Still” by Cory Ellsworth and Randy Kartchner, performed by Mike Eldred and Elizabeth Wolfe.
