Harvey E has fast become one of my best friends.  He is a sexaholic with nearly 7 years sobriety.  Since he and I first met on December 10, 2019, via Zoom, for an interview I did with him for the Journey Through Life Podcast, he has been instrumental in the current phase of my recovery and in the idea and initial development of the Reco12 Speaker Meeting.  He was the first guest speaker for this, the Reco12 project back on June 19, 2020.  I am grateful that he was able and willing to fill in this week for a spot that unexpectedly came open.  Harvey will be speaking to us today on a catchy title that I identify with all too well.  It is, “I’ve Got This…  Oops!”  I am looking forward to this talk and think it will be very helpful to many.Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting.  We are an organization whose addictions include alcohol, drugs, lust and sex, food and gambling, just to name a few.  We come together from all places, faiths and backgrounds to learn the similarities of addiction and to gain tools and hope from others who are walking a similar path.  We invite recovering addicts with at least 1 year sobriety and who are actively working their recovery in their respective fellowships to share their experience, strength and hope on a live Zoom meeting, each Friday at 12:00 pm central time, for 20-25 minutes.  Then, we, the live audience, get the opportunity to ask questions of the speaker for another 20-25 minutes.  In order to ask questions, please type them in the Q and A link at the bottom of your Zoom window.  If you are hearing this podcast recorded and would like to participate as a live audience member, or if you would like to be a guest speaker in a future meeting, please go to www.reco12.com to learn more and submit your email address there to receive weekly invitations or to submit to become a guest speaker.  Reco12 is an ad-free service and we appreciate your help in keeping it that way.  We gratefully accept contributions to help cover the costs of the Zoom platform, podcast platform, web hosting, and administrative costs.  To contribute, you can go to https://www.reco12.com/support  or you can click the link to PayPal (https://www.paypal.me/reco12)  in the chat of the live meeting.  When you contribute, please specify the meeting number.  This is meeting number 24.If you have also found value in Reco12, please take a moment to go to the podcast platform of your choosing and leave a rating and review.  It helps us work our 12th step by carrying the message of recovery to more addicts who suffer.https://www.sa.orghttps://www.sal12step.orgIntro and outro music is “Standing Still” by Cory Ellsworth and Randy Kartchner, performed by Mike Eldred and Elizabeth Wolfe.  This song, and/or the entire soundtrack for the future Broadway musical, “Crosses:  A Musical of Hope”, can be purchased here:  https://music.apple.com/us/album/crosses-musical-hope-by-cory/528476262  This song is used with the  permission of Cory Ellsworth.Support the show (https://www.reco12.com/support)
Let’s introduce our guest speaker for today, Bill M.Here is Bill M in his own words:  I got booze sober in 1987.  Had what is probably considered the ‘pink cloud’ phase for a few years but at about 4-5 years started to feel not right.  I struggled for the next 5 years with mild anxiety but by 10 years sober, I suffered from severe anxiety which led to a nervous breakdown at 15 years sober.  At that low point, I met a man who took me through the steps as set forth in the Big Book and am living anxiety free since.Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting. This is meeting number 23.Keep coming back!  It works if you work it.  So work it.  You are worth it.Alcoholics Anonymous:  https://www.aa.orgAll Addicts Anonymous:  https://alladdictsanonymous.orgIntro and outro music is “Standing Still” by Cory Ellsworth and Randy Kartchner, performed by Mike Eldred and Elizabeth Wolfe.  This song, and/or the entire soundtrack for the future Broadway musical, “Crosses:  A Musical of Hope”, can be purchased here:  https://music.apple.com/us/album/crosses-musical-hope-by-cory/528476262  This song is used with the  expressed permission of Cory Ellsworth.Support the show (https://www.reco12.com/support)

Let’s introduce our guest speaker for today, Damon W, whose topic is “Controlling the Controllables”.Sentenced to sixty-five years in a Texas prison, Damon once had it all.  At 20 years old, he was a Division 1 starting quarterback, after a career-ending injury, Damon was by all outside appearances, very successful.  It all came crashing down when he turned to hard core drugs to cope with disappointments of life.  After a fateful discussion during his incarceration with a seasoned convict, Damon had a spiritual awakening. He learned a lesson about a single coffee bean that changed his whole perspective. Armed with a program of recovery, a renewed faith, and a miraculous second chance at life, Damon emerged from over seven years of prison a changed man. His story of redemption, grit and determination continues to inspire many today, and I know it will inspire you.Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting. This is meeting number 21.Keep coming back!  It works if you work it.  So work it.  You are worth it.Outro music is “Standing Still” by Cory Ellsworth and Randy Kartchner, performed by Mike Eldred and Elizabeth Wolfe.  This song, and/or the entire soundtrack for the future Broadway musical, “Crosses:  A Musical of Hope”, can be purchased here:  https://music.apple.com/us/album/crosses-musical-hope-by-cory/528476262  This song is used with the  permission of Cory Ellsworth. To learn more about Damon, you can find his stuff here:  https://damonwest.org/#BeACoffeeBeanSupport the show (https://www.reco12.com/support)

Let’s introduce our guest speaker for today, Amy B.Amy is a recovered food addict and-Anon and has been working recovery with varying degrees of success since April 2013.  It took a major relapse to humble her to the point of complete honesty about her problem.  Hitting bottom when she thought she knew all there was to know about recovery was baffling and confusing to her.  God waited patiently for her to run out of her own plans and designs and then led her to ARP (The Addiction Recovery Program of her church), a fellowship which she said would never work for her.  She’s been happily working the steps of recovery every day since September 2018.Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting. This is meeting number 18. I was introduced to Dr. Hardy through a podcast that he was a guest on, called the Richie Norton Podcast. I was in the process of developing the idea of the Reco12 Speaker Meeting Podcast and his interview with Richie Norton (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-richie-norton-show/id1493699560?i=1000473674959) spoke the language of addiction and the powerlessness of willpower so clearly that I had to reach out to him right away and ask if he would be a guest speaker. I am so grateful that he has agreed to do this. Here is his bio:Dr. Benjamin Hardy is an organizational psychologist and bestselling author of Willpower Doesn’t Work and Personality Isn’t Permanent. His blogs have been read by over 100 million people and are featured on Forbes, Fortune, CNBC, Cheddar, Big Think, and many others. He is a regular contributor to Inc. and Psychology Today and from 2015-2018, he was the #1 writer in the world on Medium.com. He and his wife Lauren adopted three children through the foster system in February 2018 and, one month later, Lauren became pregnant with twins, who were born in December of 2018. Although learning a lot about the disease of codependency, sponsorship was not a part of her meetings. Eventually, Sarah helped start a step study group within the fellowship so that members could work the steps in recovery. This still continues today. However, after yet another bottom and yet another failed relationship, Sarah needed more help than simply going to meetings. Even the coda step study was insufficient to provide Sarah with the help she desperately needed. 2.5 years ago, by the grace of God, she found a sponsor in the rooms of SLAA who believed in the undiluted message of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. 3 months later, Sarah was rocketed in the fourth dimension of existence. She went from being suicidal, anxiety ridden, and hopeless to being happy, joyous and free. Since then, Sarah has been on a mission to sponsor members of coda and share the Big Book message with those who still suffer. Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting. If you are hearing this podcast recorded and would like to participate as a live audience member, or if you would like to be a guest speaker in a future meeting, please go to www.reco12.com to learn more and submit your email address there to receive weekly invitations or to submit to become a guest speaker.  Reco12 is a self supporting project, and we appreciate your help in keeping it that way. Or, if you use Venmo, you can also contribute there.  Our handle is @Reco-Twelve. Let’s introduce our guest speaker for today, Pamela from Glasgow, Scotland, in her own words."I came into the rooms obese, drunk and inadequate at 29 - but only truly surrendered at aged 44! I thought I knew everything, I presented well, I had a marriage, 2 cars on the drive, and a mortgage. I had friends who adored me and I had a life others might crave - but inside I was broken. I felt like a fraud.  I couldn’t stop eating chalk… yes chalk!  I knew I needed more than to just stop eating drinking and popping painkillers but how? How was I going get out of this mess? I cried out - and my prayers were answered."Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting. The guest speaker also chooses a fellowship or recovery-centered organization to which the majority of contributions from that week’s meeting will be donated to.  This week’s organization for any contributions to go to will be Addictive Eaters Anonymous.  To contribute, you can go to https://www.reco12.com/support  or you can click the link to PayPal (https://www.paypal.me/reco12)  in the chat of the live meeting.  Or, if you use Venmo, you can also contribute there.  Our handle is @Reco-Twelve. After 42 years of actively acting out in sexual addiction Andrew S learned what he had been hearing in recovery groups that his life was really out of control and that the only way to get it back was through connection with his higher power. This connection began after he was excommunicated from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Andrew realized that he could not simple say "I got this" anymore. "there's a couch in the hallway" became his new catch phrase when he needed to be reminded that it is God that sets things right and not himself. This connection has helped him achieve and maintain sobriety for the past 3 years.   The phrase, "there's a couch in the hallway" will definitely take on a new meaning for you as you listen to and apply the lessons from this episode into your life.  Reco12 is an organization whose addictions include alcohol, drugs, lust and sex, food and gambling, just to name a few. If you are hearing this podcast recorded and would like to participate as a live audience member, or if you would like to be a guest speaker in a future meeting, please go to www.reco12.com to learn more and submit your email address there to receive weekly invitations or to submit to become a guest speaker. The guest speaker also chooses a fellowship or recovery-centered organization to which the majority of contributions from that week’s meeting will be donated to.  Andrew has chosen SAL as the fellowship to which any contributions will go to.  You can learn more about them at www.salifeline.org.  To contribute, you can go to https://www.reco12.com/support  or you can click the link to PayPal (https://www.paypal.me/reco12)  in the chat of the live meeting.  Or, if you use Venmo, you can also contribute there.  Our handle is @Reco-Twelve. Guest Intro and Bio:  Father Bill W is a recovering alcoholic with 48 years sobriety and is a leading voice in living in the maintenance steps, specifically in Step 11 - seeking constant contact with God through a practice used by the early members of AA before the 12 Steps were created.  This practice is called Two Way Prayer.  It has been a life changing practice for many (myself included).  Father Bill W asks that donations be sent to Two Way Prayer in order to keep extending the mission of helping more people realize that hearing the voice of God is as available to anyone as is the very air we breathe. The host heard a bit longer version of it and it is all fantastic.  If others want to hear his longer story, he shared it with me in the Journey Through Life Podcast from earlier this year.  You can find it there.  I have also posted a link to that episode in the chat and will in the show notes.  https://soundcloud.com/journey-through-life/step-6-father-bill-ws-experience-strength-and-hope.  He also has a few workshops coming up in the next two months.  To learn about those, please email twowayprayer@gmail.com and get on the mailing list.  Welcome to the Reco12 Speaker Meeting. He believes that there is hope for all of us and that all people deserve kindness and respect.   Kastle started his reluctant journey of recovery by sitting in a parking lot outside of a meeting for 45 minutes trying to convince himself that he wasn’t an addict and that “those” people who attend meetings could never understand him.  Unsurprisingly, those people were just like him in so many ways, and he was proud and grateful to be among such honest and vulnerable people.  He began attending the addiction recovery program run through the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and also completed the 90 day program through arpsupport.org with an amazing sponsor which was the beginning of true and honest recovery rather than sobriety.  Kastle has been sober since September 2017.If we didn’t get to your question or if you have other questions, please go to https://www.reco12.com/forum and join in our community and ask those questions and answer others’ questions that will come up.  I invite the audience to come back next week.  If you have not yet gone to www.reco12.com/join-us and submitted your email address (you only need to do it once), please get on the invitation list, so you can join us live, each Friday at 12:00 noon, central time.  Organization For Contributions this week is Operation Underground Railroad:  https://ourrescue.org/“Standing Still” by Cory Ellsworth and Randy Kartchner, performed by Mike Eldred and Elizabeth Wolfe, “Crosses:  A Musical of Hope”, can be purchased here:  https://music.apple.com/us/album/crosses-musical-hope-by-cory/528476262  Used with the  permission of Cory Ellsworth.Support the show (https://www.reco12.com/support)
