Description
The Composing Rooms was founded in 2010 as a curatorial project encouraging collaboration and dialogue in London inspired by Preteen Gallery, net.art, and the blog Post Internet by Gene McHugh.
The Green Room Radio Mixes were initiated in 2012 to coincide with the Green Room project for which eight emerging artists were given their first solo exhibitions in the UK. This included: Petra Cortright, Jon Rafman, Kate Steciw, and Artie Vierkant.
From 2013-2017, The Composing Rooms hosted over 26 exhibitions and events in a space opposite the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK).

Sabine Gottfried is a trained opera singer, techno producer, sound designer, thinker, and programmer based in Berlin.
This mix concluded the series for The Composing Rooms, partly because Soundcloud wasn't the same as it was two years beforehand. In 2012 new exciting music was being made and shared like never before, it was experimental, fun, dirty, poppy, and unprofessional.
As some of the musicians making music from their bedrooms professionalised, with album releases and international DJ bookings, others were left behind and the scene disbanded.
I'm grateful that The Composing Rooms tapped into that exciting period of music production as part of the overall output.
Thanks for listening.

Alley Catss is a visual artist and musician from Hungary who made this mix for The Composing Rooms in 2014.
As with many of the artists who made mixes for TCR, they often used ASCII or other characters in the heading as well as references to meditation.
The title of this mix was i⁁n╄◝ȵƐℜ_Ϭ0∇⋁_ℳ1ℵ∂∐_M1☾kβ✝αƍℰ8 (⏃ƪƪǯƛꜻ_ℂ∆┱$$_4_√tὼℰ_ℭøƜȹⓄϨiȵƓ_℞0⒪ℳℨℤ), that can also be read as INNER BODY MIND MIXTAPE ALLEY CATS 4 THE COMPOSING ROOMS.

mεէმჯմ (metaxu) is one of those secretive producers and not much is known about them apart from that they also have a Facebook page titled "Stop Taking Your Life So Seriously".
It is exciting that someone you know nearly nothing about agrees to make a mix for an art project.
Thank you!

h00dumentary aka Ilja Karilampi is a Swedish artist who also DJ'd and wrote a novel titled Hunter in the Armchair.
This whole mixtape, made in 2013 was chipmunked, sped-up so all the vocals sound very high-pitched. According to Urban Dictionary: piff means superior to the average. "Also a potent strain of weed/canibus of purple color."
Later in 2013 Ilja made an artwork titled realness mixed emotions (with marker, and spraypaint on a 170 x 113 cm Inkjet print canvas) which utalised a screenshot from my phone while listening to his mix of the same title. The artwork was exhibited in a big group exhibition called "D", duing ABC Berlin.

This mix was made in early 2013 for The Composing Rooms by Nightcoregirl aka Sybil Prentice. It accompanied an artwork she made for a group exhibition titled Repeat Pattern, curated by The Composing Rooms for Gloria Night, an artist-run space in Auckland, NZ.
The artwork comprised elements from a cheerleader's outfit, a plinth, a CD player (playing this mix), and a vinyl sticker of the URL of the webpage (http://nightcoregirl.com/cheer-xtreme/ - no longer online) made to accompany the artwork and mix.
Nightcoregirl is prolific artist, DJ, and composer. She is known for creating jarring experimental music drawing inspiration from pop culture, nightcore, and icons such as Paris Hilton. As an artist she also produced incredibly intricate web pages that were highly skilled and experimental, often employing a unique collage-like way of combining imagery. Unfortunately a lot of her work is no longer online.

ssshheee is an artist Ana Caprix discovered via Soundcloud which lead to several exchanges and projects.
As well as making her own music, ssshhee was prolific at putting out mixes. Many of the music and mixes ssshhee published had emphasis on the anxious, upbeat energy significant to growing up as a digital creative during the 00's. The sounds also exemplify the technology of the time, experimentation with bpm and an array of nostalgic references.

After Eva By Heart, The Composing Rooms continuted to commission mixes from artists/musicians who resonated with the curatorial program.
Shock Diamond aka JamesMagnum3 was one such artist, harnessing sounds and aesthetics to create interesting, unique, and contempoary compositions. This mix includes music by Shock Diamond as well as many of his contemporaries and saw themes in The Composing Rooms mixtapes starting to emerge.
The mix was made just before the 2012 New York hurricane hit, the cover art was inspired by a playstation 69 game cover influenced by WHY BEEZY's mix which had a similar game character as inspiration for the cover. Shock Diamond wrote of this "i had been working on that photo when u asked me to do the mix so i figured it was a serendipitous omen."

This "HYPE MIX" was created by WHY BE for PLATINUM, an audio-visual event conceived by Ché Zara Blomfield as a Composing Rooms project for Eva by Heart.
Eva by Heart was a curatorial project initiated by Nina Cristante manifesting as artist’s nights at Visions Video Bar in Dalston, East London. Each artist was invited to conceive an event to take place over an evening within the basement venue.
The format of each night is left up to the artist, however as a club venue the space lends itself to sound, performance and video.
PLATINUM aimed to provide an environment to celebrate a collide of creative practices, focusing on artists who use appropriation and digital production to produce new compositions of sound and visual material.
Artists included รรรђhєєє / Hannah Hurrle (@sssheee)
, ANA CAPRIX / Tom Ensom (@caprix)
, FELICITA / Dominik Dvorak (@felicita)
, recsund / Clifford Sage (@recsund),
and Joe Hamilton / Hypergeography (joehamilton.info), as well as Why Beezy / Tobias Lee who contributed the mix.
PLATINUM also served as the after-party for the exhibition opening of New Zealand artist Daif King's first solo show in the UK titled GOLD-CARD, cuated by Ché Zara Blomfield as part of The Composing Rooms' Green Room project.
Both events took place Friday 3rd August 2012.

Ana Caprix was one of the first musicans who wandered into The Composing Rooms in early 2012 after discovering the project via the first Radio Mix we posted on Soundcloud.
Unknown to him, we had meanwhile become fans of his music! So, it was only natural to ask him to contibute to the next Green Room Radio show.
This mix was created to reflect on the then current exhibition of the artist Kate Steciw, and explores the theme of the teenage dream.
Thanks for listening!
Your host, Ché Zara Blomfield

In January 2012 The Composing Rooms opened a "year-long residency" of an exhibition space called The Green Room inside RichMix, a cultural centre in Shoreditch, East London.
To coincide with the opening and the artist Petra Cortright's first solo show in the UK, The Composing Rooms (TCR) was invited by the local Hoxton Radio Station to create a show promoting the project space.
For this mix Petra Cortright contributed some of her favourite tracks, the mix also includes a spoken recording of Hennesy Youngman from one of his then-popular Youtube Tutorials "ART THOUGHTZ", and music by the artist and DJ's duo Dan Keller and Nik Kosmas aka AIDS-3D.
After it was posted on Soundcloud the mix was quickly reposted by popular accounts AIDS-3D and Lucky-PDF, resulting in a range of creative musicians finding the project space that resonated with their own work.
This encouraged commissioning mixes for TCR which lasted two years. I'm now republishing the archive as a podcast series. I hope you enjoy!
