Ever think that one person can’t make a difference? Well, I hate to say it but you are wrong. It only takes the power of one changemaker with the force of nature to see something wrong and make changes - globally!   My guest on The Sustainable Shift Podcast is Sheila Morovati who has founded not one but 2 highly successful Non-Profits Habits of Waste and Crayon Collection.    Habits of Waste focuses on finding solutions to shift habitual behaviors that contribute to pollution and waste. HoW is most known for the #CutOutCutlery campaign, which convinced UberEats, Postmates, Grubhub, and most recently Veggie Grill to globally change the default setting in their applications so that no one receives plastic cutlery unless requested – which is now going into legislation! DoorDash and Chipotle are the next targets.   Once Sheila realized that she could shift mindsets with minimal societal efforts, she started to think bigger. The latest campaign #8Meals is a newly launched app that challenges individuals to decrease their animal protein intake by 40% by swapping out 8 meals a weekfor plant-based foods. This small commitment could lead to lifelong habits, eliminating waste from farming + improving our health. Is recycling an outdated solution? Some might say it is, this is where the Circular Economy steps in.  What we need is to go beyond recycling and build the framework for a truly circular economy, and we need businesses of all sizes and shapes to step up and take this challenge head-on.   Where did it all go wrong?  In 1684 Thomas Savery invented the steam engine and it changed everything. This invention kick-started the industrial revolution, which transformed our ability to make things. Raw materials and energy were seemingly infinite, and labor was readily available. For the first time in history, goods were mass-produced. The linear economy has to change, we must disrupt the system. We must transform all the elements of the take-make-waste system: how we manage resources, how we make and use products, and what we do with the materials afterward. The longer materials and resources are in use, the more value is extracted from them. Extending the life of products and materials prevents the over-generation of waste and recovers the full value of products.   By changing our supply chains, our communities, and the environment, can be on the right path to a healthier, more sustainable economic recovery. Only then can we create a thriving economy that can benefit everyone within the limits of our planet. You’ve probably most likely heard some buzz on the street about the new Social Media Platform called Clubhouse. So what exactly is Clubhouse? It’s kind of somewhere between a live Podcast and listening in on someone else's phone calls, except that you can raise your hand and interact with the speakers on the virtual stage.   I connected with Sara on Clubhouse - yes, there are eco-warriors on there as well! Have you ever just stopped and really thought about it?   Earth Day is a day for us all to remember the environment in our busy lives, a day that reminds us to continue to do the little things that help our planet and different ways we can protect it.   But where did it all begin? Earth Day was established and first celebrated in the United States in 1970 following an oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. A staggering 20 million people held rallies across the US after the catastrophic event. Today, it is widely credited as being one of the sparks of the modern environmental movement because it led to the creation of the environment Protection agency. What I love about Earth Day is that everyone can participate, we can collectively gather and move together toward rethinking what life and our business could and should look like.   Earth Day is a time to come together  to join hands in festivals, environment cleanups, tree planting, recycling programs, and community activities    But Earth Day is so much more than an event or a day on the calendar.  It marks our commitment to protecting our environment for generations to come.   So I ask you again, what does Earth Day mean to you? I’m so excited to share the latest podcast episode where I interview an amazing fellow Eco-warrior Andrea Fox.   Andrea Fox is a broadcaster, presenter and voiceover artist based in the UK. I'm sharing this episode today because I wanted to be really real and really honest with you and give you a little bit of a life update, which is also a business update.   If I'm honest I was probably a little bit hesitant about sharing it, but in the same breath I wanted to because I want other eco entrepreneurs to know that we are all going through similar situations at different times in our business. And the biggest takeaway from sharing this episode and being really open and honest is that so many of you can really connect with the exact same feelings and the exact same thoughts.   Because there are no limits to what you can do, what you can create, what you can be, you can literally embrace everything to life that you put your focus on.    But answer this. What signs are you blocking. What signs are you ignoring?   And why don't you want to go down this path. This is what you were meant to be doing, you were meant to be here in this path. Why do you keep blocking it?   What do these questions make you think? Does it bring up any emotions because what I feel from it,  is that quite often we can be our own biggest self sabotage.  We can really block these thoughts that we kind of pass off as all of that silly, no one's gonna listen to that no one's gonna buy that. And we pass it off and we just try to ignore it. Do you know your value or do you often doubt yourself?
