In our latest episode we speak to Jason Broderick from Discovery Bay international school, in Hong Kong.  Jason is a qualified psychologist and heads up wellbeing at the school.  He gives incredible insight into the groundbreaking wellbeing strategies the school have introduced in the past 4 years.  The school now teaches wellness and wellbeing though every subject with standard PSHE style lessons being dropped from next year (excluding sex ed). He also describes how all teachers at the school have been trained in wellbeing and explains how he has created wellbeing workshops tailored for parents.
In this episode we speak with Elena Dundjerovic, Assistant headteacher from the Beaumont school.  Elena gives great insight into the strategies she has used and will be using this term to support whole school wellbeing.  She talks about how the school learnt lessons from the first lockdown and have pro-actively implemented new strategies to help support student and staff wellbeing. She also describes priorities for this term and how the school plans to bring back activities which will facilitate the feeling of belonging among students.  In the final section of the podcast Jon poses the question to Elena about the school plans to balance student wellbeing with the pressures of catching up academically.

In this episode Jon speaks with Leo from LTA psychology.   Leo gives 4 Tips to help you get through Lockdown - Leo is only 11 years old and has used the Lockdowns to create his own  psychology YouTube channel called LTA psychology.  He gives insight and perspective into what its like to be child during the new lockdown and gives some great tips to children on how they can get stay positive.

In this episode Dr bear and Jon discuss wellbeing strategies to help teachers through the ongoing pandemic.  From strategies on how to cope with uncertainty and anxiety, to skills which can help you create boundaries for your own self care.  Dr Bear and Jon also discuss the steps you can go through when you maybe having a wobble - from finding some you trust to talk to or going to you GP.  However bad you may feel the most important thing is to talk to someone.  Dr Bear recommends the following steps if you are in a bit of pickle and feel stuck;  Find someone you trust and talk to them about how you are feeling - you don't have to tell them everything, just test them with a  small amount of information first and see how it goes.   If you don't feel you have anyone to talk to or it hasn't helped, then talk to your GP or seek private help through a qualified health professional. In this episode Jon speaks to a leading military pilot.  He talks about his 20+ year career in the military, from working as paratrooper in NI and Iraq, to his pilot training and time flying Apache helicopters in the Afghan war.  He gives his own views on how to best to cope with moments of hardship and adversity and tips for any young person looking for career in the army.

With schools fully open in the UK, teachers are now facing more day to day challenges, from keeping children safe, offering blended learning and getting children back to speed after 6 months off.  It's not therefore surprising that teacher wellbeing could be being affected, which is why we thought it time to get some wellbeing advice specific for teachers and staff. The Black lives matter movement after the death of George Floyd has created a lot of media attention and will have created a lot of emotions with lots of communities around the UK.  In this episode Jon has an open conversation with his friend and business consultant, Dr Wayne Wright as he tries to get a better understanding of the movement and why the events in the US have transferred over to the UK.
