ScissorMix 15: Oldish

ScissorMix 15: Oldish

As the title implies, this is a bit of a different type of mix than previous ones. Every track is over 35 years old. Ok, 2 are relatively recent. But they lean heavily on some old samples. Despite its oldness, I think this mix fits into the same vibe as some of the other stuff that’s been put on here. They’re chock-full of big beats...
My friend asked me to throw together some new music for an event she was having and this is the result. A mix of modern easy listening that sits within its own little nook nestled somewhere between Indie,  Electronic and Dance. Not quite Chillwave, but definitely something you can thrown on for a dinner party. Mostly new music from 2015 and the end of last...

Nearly two hours of new and classic Indie Rock for your Fourth of July throw down. Starts with the here and now and ends up for the OGs who stay until the end of the party.
Do you like boom bap beats? Remixed 80s tracks? Pitch-shifted vocals? Well, you're in luck. On the heels of Steve's recent mix, I've got another installment of the ScissorMix series ready. I guess there's something about the summertime that makes me get off my ass and finish a mix.
This ScissorMix hits on a ton of different electronic notes, but stays in that sweet 115 to 125 BPM range, keeping things moving along with a nice pace. As usually, melody is the star here, and there’s no lack of bigness with the likes of amazing tracks from DJ Koze, Osborne, Disclosure, Classixx, Bonobo, Baths and the like. A ton of usual SK people on this mix and a few things that may have eluded your radar thus far.
Lucky for you, the first Scissorkast in too long is an all-music/no-talking affair. (I need an XLR adapter for my microphone). 100% new music, much of it unreleased, hitting the usual mix of instrumental electronic, emotive headphone post-rock, experimental dancefloor stuff and the like. Joyously looping, meticulously crafted sounds. Stuff from the US, UK, and Japan this time with a heavy emphasis on melody.
But better late than never, right? This mix is pretty much all hip hop, reggae, soul edits, afrofunk and other goodness that sounds great coming out of a boombox. Lots of familiar tracks in new packaging. It’s the soundtrack to the BBQ I haven’t had a chance to attend. So get out there, cook some meats, drink some beers, and pump these tunes for me.
Here's a new installment of the Scissormix series out just in time for the holidays. This mix lives solidly in the realm of downtempo. So it's perfect to throw on after a long day of shopping/family/work and whatever other stresses come your way this holiday season.

Right back again with another installment of the ScissorMix series. I’ve been making up for lost time and came across a wealth of new, great tunes so quickly that this thing basically put itself together.
Souleance, Bullion, Rare Earth, Games, Kelpe and more.
Tasteful, soulful Deep House mix from up-and-comer DJ Marmon.
The Best of 2010 including Walls, Emeralds, Yppah, Golda Panda and more.
Ebo Taylor, Bottin, Greenwood Rhythm Coalition and more.

Even though the weather in NYC is shitty, it’s always a great day when I can post something new created by a close friend. Sam Willis, one half of Kompakt recording artists Walls and the fantastic DJ/blog duo Allez-Allez is a busy man these days up in Hackney, but somehow found the time to launch another pseudonym side-project as Snoretex. It’s mind blowing when I...

It's a real shortcoming of Hallmark as a company, that they don't offer a "Post-Rock brings families together" greeting card. New York's Phone Home is the second duo of brothers (the awesome Lymbyc Systym is the other) to channel potential angsty rivalry into beautiful musical alchemy
