Sarah Bolton is a resilience coach and rare disease advocate. Prior to becoming a coach, she worked as a cosmetologist and enjoyed helping people feel beautiful and confident in their own bodies. She was diagnosed with a rare disease called Myasthenia gravis. Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which antibodies destroy the communication between nerves and muscle, resulting in weakness of the skeletal muscles. Myasthenia gravis affects the voluntary muscles of the body, especially those that control the eyes, mouth, throat and limbs.Sarah quickly realized that her career working in the salon was unsustainable because of the frequent episodes of MG muscle weakness, especially in her hands.Sarah worked with a coach prior to her diagnosis and saw the positive impact coaching had on her own life. So she decided to become a coach herself. Now, Sarah loves working with women in leadership roles as well as other folks living with invisible/chronic illnesses. We know that sleep and the food we eat have a very big connection. Overeating and eating convenience foods is a problem many of us are encountering as a result not sleeping well. So when you sleep better, you have a probability of eating better too. Studies have clearly shown that sleep deprivation can alter the blood glucose and hormones involved in regulating metabolism. This in the long term, has been shown to have an increased risk of obesity, stroke and type 2 diabetes. In this episode, I look at nutrients that can help how well we sleep and how much sleep we get. The ongoing coronavirus crisis has made getting a good night’s rest significantly harder. Some experts even have a term for it: ‘coronasomnia’. This has impacted people all over the world as they experience sleep problems linked to the stress of life during Covid-19. Here is what I will be covering over the next 6 weeks:Wk:1 Exercise/Moving & SunshinePeople are more sedentary than ever. Our sedentary nature is something we cannot adapt to either. We are designed to move. We need to use up all our daytime/wake hormones so we can sleep at night. Wk 2: Food & EatingOvereating is another problem many of us are encountering and as a result not sleep well. Our metabolism is out of whack. Sleep is important regulating metabolism, including blood glucose and mechanisms controlling appetite and weight gain.Wk 3: Alcohol & MedicationsFor many, alcohol consumption has increased.
