If you're anything like us, you've probably been wondering what the future of travel will look like in a COVID-normal world. With the expected pillars of modern travel, like open borders and free movement, now a distant memory, is the urge to leave our home countries dimming? And what about once the pandemic has passed? Can we one day expect to fly from Melbourne to London within a few hours? Will space tourism reshape the aviation industry? And then there’s climate change – where does that fit in to the future of travel? In late 2020, Mike (desperate for a tropical holiday) joined a Zoom call with retuning guest Dr Rob Grenfell and global futurist Rohit Talwar to unpack where we can expect to go (if anywhere at all). Rob is the Director of Health and Bisosecurity at the CSIRO and has talked to the future of health with Mike and the Futurists World team for a previous episode. Rohit is an award-winning thought leader, author and founder of Fast Future, a research and insights business that specialises in the fields of futures and foresight.Rob and Rohit are uniquely placed to talk to this evolving topic and they bring genuine insight to the discussion. So, amidst all the turbulence, can we ever hope for blue sky travel again? While Rob and Rohit each predict that travel and tourism will boom once more, they agree it will look different – both in the short term and long term.  It's time to fasten your seatbelts and get ready to learn all about the future of travel. https://futurists.worldPlease subscribe to the Futurists.World YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqK50xsZBwnm_QT1Q7_wLMgLike Futurists.World on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/FuturistsWorld/Follow @futuristsworld on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/futuristsworld/Follow @futuristsWorld on Twitter https://twitter.com/FuturistsWorld
Mike speaks to Yul Anderson and Vanessa Mason about the future of diversity. Yul Anderson is an associate professor at the World Academy of Art and Science, a global network of more than 700 individual fellows from more than 80 countries. He is also the president and founder of the African Ameriacan Future Society and hosted the Future of Black America conference at UNESCO’s Futures Literacy Lab in November 2020. Vanessa Mason is a research director at the Institute for the Future, a nonprofit organisation that helps individuals, organisations and communities think holistically about the future. She is also the founder of Future of Belonging, which explores how we can use technology to fulfil our basic human need to be accepted for who we are. So what does diversity and inclusion really mean? What should it look like and where will it be in the future? ‘History tells us that civil rights are not distributed evenly, that certain groups in our global population have been fighting to be seen and heard since the dawn of time. But a movement is growing to overthrow the status quo and diversify the people in power. So how do we grab hold of it? This is a complex, timely and important conversation where Yul and Vanessa chat to Mike about shaping a new normal, progressing the inclusion agenda and going further than ticking the compliance checkbox. https://futurists.worldPlease subscribe to the Futurists.World YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqK50xsZBwnm_QT1Q7_wLMgLike Futurists.World on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/FuturistsWorld/Follow @futuristsworld on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/futuristsworld/Follow @futuristsWorld on Twitter https://twitter.com/FuturistsWorld
In the wake of the pandemic cinemas closed their doors, film sets shut down and stadiums turned off their lights. As the reality of this uncomfortable, COVID-present world sinks in, we’ve been wondering:  is the future of entertainment in jeopardy or are we are on the edge of a new beginning? During December 2020, Mike joined a Zoom call with two entertainment industry dynamos to discuss where the sector is headed this year and beyond. Daniel de Salt’anna Martins (who we’re referring to as ‘DM’ in this episode) is a ludocentric game designer based in Rio de Janeiro, while Daniel Trujillo is a virtual reality expert from Las Vegas. The pair chatted to Mike (who is himself a filmmaker) about how the pandemic has driven the integration of next generation technologies, and together they unpack where the future of entertainment is really going.  Just as other industries are finding innovative means to continue operations in and around coronavirus lockdowns, the entertainment industry is absolutely taking a new shape. Virtual reality and volumetric videos sound a bit otherworldly to many of us now, but Daniel says that soon they’ll simply roll off our tongues, In fact, he even thinks that augmented reality is becoming so advanced that we will be able to host ‘live’ concerts in our homes one day. And DM predicts that gaming and other digital platforms will also continue to accelerate, eventually engaging all five of our human senses. Sounds like computer simulation will soon be near impossible to distinguish from reality. To make sure you’re ready for the future of entertainment, watch this episode now. https://futurists.worldPlease subscribe to the Futurists.World YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqK50xsZBwnm_QT1Q7_wLMgLike Futurists.World on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/FuturistsWorld/Follow @futuristsworld on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/futuristsworld/Follow @futuristsWorld on Twitter https://twitter.com/FuturistsWorld
Is the world becoming more democratised or less? Is modern monetary theory fact or fiction? Is equality something we should be striving for at all? We’re back with a brand new episode of Futurists World and this time we’re tackling one of the biggest topics – the future of humanity. In this fascinating conversation, Mike chats with returning guest Katherine Boiciuc, or KB, in Melbourne, Australia, and new recruit Zoltan Istvan, a Californian-based thought leader. KB is a keynote speaker with extensive experience in the technology and telecommunications industries. She is a leadership guru who is passionate about the future of work. KB told Mike and Zoltan that a person’s role in the workplace of the future is absolutely being challenged by technology. She explained that the workforce of 2025 will be ‘hybrid’ – but not in the way you might be thinking. While COVID-19 has taught us all how to confidently work remotely, teams of the future won’t just need to overcome the tyranny of distance, they’ll need to navigate how humans, AI impersonators and robots can best interact. The combination sounds messy, complex and a little scary – but according to Zoltan, the future of humanity actually means blending humans with technology, and not simply working alongside each other. As a Transhumanist, Zoltan believes technology will actually change what it means to be human. He says radical science is upgrading the human experience entirely, from virtual reality to brain implants. In fact, he already has a chip in his hand that opens his front door for him. In the future, Zoltan confirms that we can expect our iPhones to be connected to our brains (not just our hands) and Google maps to exist in our heads. So it sounds like we will be more optimised ….and continually monitored. Are we doomed? According to KB, not at all. As a global optimist, she believes we can create a positive future for ourselves – one decision, one meeting, one conversation at a time. And this conversation between Mike, Zoltan and KB sounds like a good place to start. https://futurists.worldPlease subscribe to the Futurists.World YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqK50xsZBwnm_QT1Q7_wLMgLike Futurists.World on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/FuturistsWorld/Follow @futuristsworld on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/futuristsworld/Follow @futuristsWorld on Twitter https://twitter.com/FuturistsWorld
There’s no doubt that the internet has expanded the advertiser’s tool kit. New platforms and targeting capabilities are popping up all the time. And we know you’ve asked yourself more than once if Facebook is listening to your conversations  … or mining your mind. In short, ads are everywhere. But what’s next? It’s difficult to make a prediction about the future of advertising when technologies are changing so quickly, so Mike recruited one of the best in the business to help him reckon with it. Scott Nowell is a founding partner and Chief Creative Officer of leading Australian creative agency The Monkeys. Scott has helped some of the biggest brands thrive in a crowded landscape, including Telstra, Ubank, IGA and Blackmores. He has also created award-winning campaigns for Meat and Livestock Australia and is passionate about using advertising to build a more inclusive society. According to Scott, trust is the biggest thing a brand must project through advertising. It’s no longer possible for ad agencies to craft a fleeting identity for a brand. He says that the truth will always win when it comes to building trust – and making sales.Even if an ad features a hologram shark a la 'Back to the Future', if it doesn’t feel authentic for consumers, they’ll simply look away.Scott told Mike that while AR, VR and 3D will continue to transform how we receive advertising, its core purpose – to persuade – reminds in tact. What has shifted is the way consumers interpret brands. It’s no longer enough to simply sell – brands must stand for something too. In fact, Scott says that; “Brands have the ability, now more than ever before, to change society.” So advertising can shape the world we want? Well, maybe. What Scott knows for sure is this: if brands consider their purpose for putting something out there, they will they really be use advertising as a means to leave a lasting impression in the hearts and minds of consumers. The Future of Time with Dr James Beacham. What is time?**There are some audio issues in this podcast.  Especially at 1:50 - 1:55 seconds.  James's audio is great, but unfortunately, some of Mike's is a little distorted.  We're very sorry for this tech glitch but hope you can still enjoy this fascinating interview.  You can listen to the edited YouTube version glitch free at the Futurists World channelParticle physicist, CERN investigator, and popular futurist, Dr James Beacham is a researcher on the Atlas Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Switzerland.Originally from the midwest USA, James believes that every curious human is secretly a particle physicist and very much enjoys talking about physics with non-specialists… like us!Mike first met James when he was in Melbourne, Australia to present at Pause Fest.  Then in a lucky turn of events, Mike’s travel plans collided with James again in his home in Geneva.Mike said that “visiting James at CERN was like a childhood dream come true.  I’d heard of this vast mega lab growing up and imagined the lair of some Jame Bond villain.  And you know what, it totally exceeded these expectations – except for good, not evil.  What a tribute to the ambition of humankind CERN is.  To receive a behind-the-scenes tour with James was unbelievable and unforgettable.  A memory I will cherish forever.  The type of moonshot thinking that James and his colleagues at CERN bring to the world is more important now than ever.”Needless to say, it was a great experience to get this extra time with James and to experience a guided tour of CERN.  Thanks James! If you’re not familiar with The European Organization for Nuclear Research or CERN as it’s commonly known, and the LHC.  The LHC is a 27 kilometre supercooled, vacuum-sealed, ringed megastructure that runs underground, crossing the borders of Switzerland and France.  How cool is that! Well, according to James that stills way too small to test his really big ideas!Deep in his underground lair, James is looking for new phenomena and explanations for some of the key unsolved mysteries of the universe. He’s also a brilliant public speaker who, like Arthur C Clarke, challenges his audience to take a step past the limits of the possible, by going beyond them into the impossible. Please share your thoughts on one of the Futurist World platforms and please leave a review if you feel inspired to because it really does help us create more content.Like Futurists.World on FacebookFollow @futuristsworld on InstagramFollow @FuturistsWorld on TwitterJoin the Futurists World Community for access to exclusive content.

If technology is bringing our physical and digital worlds closer together, how will this impact the way we interact with each other? So much ground to cover and Mike didn’t hold back with the questions for Dutch Futurist Thimon de Jong.Mike was interested in meeting Thimon as they both started their careers in similar fields.  Mike studied journalism and cut his teeth producing documentaries on youth culture.  Thimon also started in journalism. Can technology save our outdated education system? Can we pull ourselves out of the industrial era, cookie-cutter approach to education that inspired the Pink Floyd’s classic ‘Another brick in the wall”While considering the future of his own children’s education, Mike was very keen to sit down with Jack Delosa, the wildly successful entrepreneur, best selling author, and prolific thought-leader to find out what sort of education his children should be hoping for.As Jack is also the founder of The Entourage, Australia’s largest education hub for entrepreneurs, he is very tuned into the future of education.“Human beings love learning. We love it, we’re so naturally curious.” Jack DelosaEducation has got to be on the minds of many parents after the recent experience a lot of us have had with remote learning due to the pandemic lockdowns. The forced closure of schools has had a real impact on the use of technology for education at every level.  We’re now seeing many of the world’s leading Universities rushing to embrace online courses and changing and updating the ways they deliver the courses in order to keep their organisations viable. So, what could the future of education look like?In this interview, Jack Delosa reveals why the education system is failing our students, and how adaptive learning and AI has the power to disrupt this space and elevate human potential. Please share your thoughts on one of the Futurist World platforms and please leave a review if you feel inspired to because it really does help us create more content. Have you ever thought about how to calculate the future of wealth? And how does wealth relate to equality? These are big questions and Mike turned happily to Shivani Gopal to find the answers.  Shivani Gopal has quickly become recognised as a feminist thought leader for women, helping them navigate their careers, businesses and financial success.  Shivani is an Indian-Australian,  and the CEO and Co-Founder of The Remarkable Woman, a community dedicated to empowering women and promoting gender equality. Gender equality it turns out may be 202 years away!Shivani's on a mission to reduce that turn around time dramatically to see it happen by 2050.  Which still sounds like kind of a long time to us, but perhaps that’s fast in the scheme of things. So what is wealth? Is it about money, about opportunity or knowledge?  Where does equity fit in and how do we speed it along?Mike asked Shivani these questions and plenty more.
