The Get More Podcast Episode 58 - Adaptability and What We KnowThis week we are taking a look at why we need to figure out how to "unlearn" our old habits, thoughts, and beliefs especially when presented with change. It's no secret that change is hard for most of us, but part of that difficulty is due to the fact that we are faced with this wave of, "ugh, I need to learn a new way to do that!?".It's not exciting to learn something new, especially when we've already learned a different way of doing it!Until now.Strong leadership requires us to be able to shift and incorporate new ideas as we go and build a new habit of deciding that change is good, old ways don't have to stay, and adjusting is simply part of the process. So let's get into it!Want to Get More? Episode 57 of The Get More Podcast: How to Relate to OthersIn this episode we discuss why you need to develop the skill of being able to relate to others (instead of assuming everyone else has to relate to us).Change is so difficult, but when we are able to relate to the people around us it makes dealing with that change a little bit easier.People change all the time and unless you understand how to pause and collect more information it is very easy to make negative assumptions and become rigid (or fixed) in your thinking, which means dealing with the changes become more and more difficult. So let's talk about it!Want to Get More? Episode 56 of The Get More Podcast: ConsistencyWe are wrapping up Confidence Month and today's episode is all about the importance of consistency when it comes to our confidence levels. As we have learned in the last year, in order to get good at something you need to practice it. And in order to practice something, you need to do it on a regular basis and do it a lot.The by-product of doing something a lot, on a regular basis, and getting good at it, is our confidence level! It goes up!The better you get at something the more confident you become in your ability to do it. Think about a job you've been in for years, or a sport that you have played forever, or a hobby that you have become incredibly good at.It took time, it took practice, and it required that you show up consistently for that activity (it didn't happen by accident). So this week we are going to pay attention to the places that we show up consistently and determine whether or not that skill can be redirected (where necessary) to more important areas of our life.Want to Get More? Episode 55 of The Get More Podcast: Awareness is Key to ConfidenceThis week is all about developing Awareness (or paying attention!) of how we think and act in our every day life - both at home and at work. Why should we care about where our thoughts, actions and focus goes?Frankly, it's pretty hard to be confident in yourself and your decisions when you have no idea where your time and energy goes each day.Think about the times where you've driven to work, or the grocery store, and can't remember how you got there.Or how about walking into a room and stopping because you can't remember why you are there. We run on auto-pilot when we aren't aware of our actions, which means we can't take action on purpose. And this is a BIG DEAL.If you are in a place right now that you aren't happy with, it means that you've let decisions happen on auto-pilot and these decisions (or lack thereof) have lead you to the people, places, and things that you have in front of you right now.The best news? Once you become aware of everything, you are able to make decisions confidently, and begin to CHOOSE the direction you want your life to go.And the more you practice making purposeful decisions, the higher your confidence goes!Want to Get More? In this episode we start to explore the first of the 4 elements of the Bare Slate Motivation Success Formula, and today it's all about values. If you were asked about your values, would you be able to answer what they are? Many of us aren't able to, because we haven't been taught to think about them, or align our life, relationships or work with them.Something to consider:Many disagreements can be traced back to a misalignment with values.Priorities are often listed by order of alignment with your values.Decision making is difficult when you don't know your value system.Fulfillment and joy is hard to achieve when your values are being ignored.Coming up on The Early Morning Experience this week we will be touching on why you may hate your job right now, and a lot of the thinking in this case is identifying where your current job may be bumping up against your value system.Want to Get More? Episode 51 of The Get More PodcastToday we are wrapping up Accountability Month with the final element in the Bare Slate Accountability Success Formula and it's all about Capacity."Capacity is the maximum amount that something can contain", and this includes you!Just like putting on that oxygen mask, you need to help yourself first when it comes to your capacity to handle everyday situations, circumstances, and decisions. One thing that leads to being at capacity is the tendency to overcommit yourself and take on too much - you literally have no room left to take on even one more small thing. Why do we do this?We may think that we 'have' to do the thing, or attend that event or meeting, or take on that project, or try and help everyone! An excellent example of this is People Pleasing, or "Nice Guy Syndrome".We think it's rude or 'not nice' to say no to others and to additional commitments (and this can include our perceived need to help others). As we like to say, "Don't make your problem, my problem!" which essentially means that you don't have to take on the problems of the world when you have your own to deal with.We have an excellent exercise in the Get More Membership called the People Pleaser Scorecard which helps you identify where you are taking on more than you should and setting yourself up to reach capacity.Go here to check out the Membership (and the Scorecard) today!Click here to watch Episode 90 of the Ask More Get More Show and our conversation with Maros Cincura discussing Nice Guy Syndrome~~~~~~~~JOIN THE MEMBERSHIP TODAY: https://www.bareslate.ca ~~~~~~~~Discover the books and tools we recommend here: https://www.amazon.ca/shop/bareslate~~~~~~~~Watch the Ask More. Today we are looking at Purpose and being accountable so that we can understand the "why" behind your yes! Let's think about that for just a moment; when you say YES to everything, you're automatically saying NO to the things you may find important. There is an opportunity cost to saying yes to all things all of the time - and this can be where People Pleasing enters the room.(If you'd like to kick the habit of being a People Pleaser, be sure to check out the People Pleaser Score Card exercise in the Get More Membership!)When we take a step back and really understand why we are committing to something, it becomes clear whether or not we will:a. actually have the time and capacity to follow throughb. it's something we really want to show up forc. reduce the feelings of guilt, stress and anxiety  There is great benefit to saying no to commitments, especially when you don't understand the why behind the decision, because it leaves room in your life to fully commit to those things/habits/tasks/projects that you genuinely feel excited to focus on.How many yes' are you giving out?~~~~~~~~JOIN THE MEMBERSHIP TODAY: https://www.bareslate.ca ~~~~~~~~Discover the books and tools we recommend here: https://www.amazon.ca/shop/bareslate~~~~~~~~Watch the Ask More. Episode #48 of The Get More Podcast: The Power of Our WordsMost of us don't spend a lot of time thinking about how what we do and say, impacts others. How do we source the confidence to speak with others in a positive, and helpful way?conversations with others always start in our own mindsthe mindset we have going into a conversation will help shape how it goeschoosing how we will enter a conversation, and choosing our words with purpose, will help to make it a learning experience vs a negative oneCan we choose to put our ego aside and enter a conversation without any agenda or expectations? Often we hear the phrase, "preparing for difficult conversations" and we interpret that to mean that we want to plan for every eventuality. What you should say if someone says this, or that,How you plan to respond if they say the thing that usually triggers youWe plan out examples of their past behaviours that 'prove' we are rightWe practice the conversations over and over again in our mind, thinking that we are 'preparing' for the discussion however, when we do this, we are at risk of shutting down any opportunity for growth, insights, or learning from the other individual.By trying to prepare our scripts, we forget to prepare for the emotional capacity needed to have an authentic conversation. We regret saying something we shouldn't have because we let our emotions get the best of us and slipped back into a patter of over-reaction.We end up with situations that have us going over the interaction in our minds and saying things like, "ugh why did I say that!? I should have said THIS instead!"Our recommendation is to prepare yourself emotionally for the conversation, and avoid the feedback loops that we all create, instead! This way we can leave the mean out of the message.~~~~~~~~JOIN THE MOVEMENT TODAY: https://www.bareslate.ca ~~~~~~~~Discover the books and tools we recommend here: https://www.amazon.ca/shop/bareslate~~~~~~~~Watch the Ask More. Today is all about: Communication With YourselfWhen we take a look at how important communication is, the focus is often placed on our communication with 'others'.However before we can have effective conversations and good quality communication with others, we first have to work on strengthening the conversation we have in our own heads! So many of the thoughts we think during the day are negative, are pessimistic and judgemental...the kinds of things that we say to ourselves would be outright hurtful if we ever said them to someone else. What makes it ok to say to ourselves?!As we like to say, if you wouldn't talk like that to someone you love, like your best friend, then don't do it to yourself.JOIN THE MOVEMENT TODAY: https://www.bareslate.ca ~~~~~~~~Discover the books and tools we recommend here: https://www.amazon.ca/shop/bareslate~~~~~~~~Watch the Ask More. If you're fighting for each day to be over with then it's time to look at the habits you've built! If we take a look at our lives right now (despite the pandemic of course) there are things that we love about our life, and things that we don't love all that much.So it's important that we take a look at the beliefs, thoughts, feelings and actions that we've trained our brains to follow so that we can start to focus on new ones that will bring us down a new pathway for 2021.Every single one of us has a habit that we built in 2020 that we definitely don't want to bring with us into 2021, so it's time to reflect on the last year and make some decisions about what to do next. However, no matter what those old habits happen to be, or what the new ones are, it's absolutely possible to make it happen - we've seen it time and time again this year and KNOW that it will happen next year too.Have a wonderful holiday and we'll see you in 2021!~~~~~~~~JOIN THE MOVEMENT TODAY: https://www.bareslate.ca ~~~~~~~~Watch the Ask More. The need to make an event or situation perfect can flare up in all of us; weddings, first birthdays, dinner parties, prom, big client meetings....it happens to all of us at one time or another. But what about those of us that struggle with the need for perfection every day of the year? How do we handle the urge to kick into overdrive? In this episode we discuss the two sides of holiday planning: the need for all things (big or small) to be perfect in order to have a good time, and those that prefer to, "wing-it" because the details don't matter to them.At the end of the day it's important to recognize that being together and grateful is what the holiday season is actually about, and if some small detail doesn't happen it won't take away from the overall experience. So let's talk about perfectionism during the holiday season.~~~~~~~~JOIN THE MOVEMENT TODAY: https://www.bareslate.ca ~~~~~~~~Watch the Ask More. Today we are talking about why you shouldn't let previous bad holiday experiences ruin the ones we have coming up this month. When we cultivate a growth mindset, it means acknowledging past experiences, learning from them, and moving forward with no expectation that they will repeat themselves. The holidays are a difficult time of year for many people, due in part to the emotions that are brought up this time of year; however if we can go into the new holiday season with the expectation that we will have a wonderful time, it turns out that we just may have it!As Laura mentions in this episode, many of us go into the holiday suspicious that someone is judging us, or doesn't like us, or is disappointed in us, and it sets us up to expect conflict....when we simply don't need to. Let's make the 2020 holiday season the one where we go into it with no baggage, no suspicions, and no storytelling! ~~~~~~~~JOIN THE MOVEMENT TODAY: https://www.bareslate.ca ~~~~~~~~Watch the Ask More. Today we are talking about how we can start to amplify our gratitude mindset by harnessing the feelings of peace, calm and genuine appreciation that comes with it.There are so many instances throughout the day where we can practice being grateful, and showing our gratitude to those around us.From thanking the person holding the door for us, to a neighbour shovelling our drive after an early morning snow storm. There are so many ways that we can practice amplifying our gratitude mindset - and when we do the benefits are so positive! From a better quality sleep, to a reduction in anxiety and anger, by practicing the feelings of gratitude we are doing a lot of good for our body and mind.______________________________JOIN THE MOVEMENT TODAY: https://www.bareslate.ca~~~~~~~~Watch the Ask More. Episode #40 of The Get More PodcastToday we are talking about how we can start to see our world through a different lens. When it comes to having a growth mindset, what happens to us is our ability to see opportunity is stronger, our ability to remain optimistic is more likely and our ability to overcome any adversity is realized. There is an old video called The Double Rainbow that was uploaded over 10 years ago, and in it a man witnesses a double rainbow in Yosemite. The absolute JOY in his voice lets us hear what it feels like to experience that long-lasting feeling - and it is triggered by his surroundings. We all need a Double Rainbow kind of lens in our lives. You can watch that video here:https://youtu.be/OQSNhk5ICTI ______________________________JOIN THE MOVEMENT TODAY: https://www.bareslate.ca/the-get-more-movement~~~~~~~~Watch the Ask More.
