This is George Palmer's story from starting out as an immigrant to becoming a Supreme Court Judge and then onto being an Australian Composer. George Palmer's bio George Palmer was born in 1947. He graduated in Arts and Law from Sydney University in 1970 and practised as a solicitor specializing in commercial law. In 1974 he was called to the Bar and in 1986 he became a Queens Counsel. He was a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales from 2001 to 2011.As a youth, Palmer studied piano with Frank Warbrick and Neta Maughan, both eminent teachers. He has been composing since he was a teenager but never sought to have his music performed. By chance, his music came to the attention of the ABC in 2003, resulting in an episode of Australian Story on ABC TV in 2004, a live broadcast by ABC FM of a concert of his orchestral music and the release by ABC Classics of a CD of his music, Attraction of Opposites.Since then, he has received many commissions. A Mass, A Child is Born, for choir, soloists and orchestra, was commissioned by Ars Musica Australis in 2005 and was recorded by ABC Classics with Cantillation and Sinfonia Australis, conducted by Dr Paul Stanhope. The CD, Exaltate Dominum, released in 2007, contains Palmer’s other choral works, also performed by Cantillation.Other works include: Not Going Quietly, premiered by The Sydney Omega Ensemble in 2007; Concerto for Two Clarinets and Chamber Orchestra, performed by Dimitri Ashkenazy, David Rowden and The Sydney Omega Ensemble; The Beancounter, for the West Australian Youth Orchestra; a song cycle for baritone and piano, Letters from a Black Snake, commissioned for the opening of the Sidney Nolan Retrospective at the New South Wales Art Gallery and the National Gallery of Victoria; a piano quartet, The Way It Is, for The Seraphim Trio; a Clarinet Sonata, Black, White and a Little Blue, premiered in The Utzon Room at The Sydney Opera House by David Rowden in 2010. His works have been performed by orchestras and chamber groups in Australia, the United States and Europe and receive frequent airplay on classical music stations. In July 2007 Palmer was commissioned to write the Papal Mass for World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney. The Mass, Benedictus Qui Venit, for large choir, soloists and orchestra, was performed in the presence of the Pope and an audience of 350,000 with soloists Amelia Farrugia, soprano, and Andrew Goodwin, tenor, directed by Benjamin Bayl. His most recent work, Cloudstreet, an opera adapted by Palmer from Tim Winton’s classic novel was premiered on 12 May 2016 by State Opera of South Australia with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra conducted by Timothy Sexton the artistic director of SOSA and directed by Gale Edwards. The opera was hailed as “a resounding triumph” (The Australian) and received standing ovations from capacity audiences.Palmer is married with three children and lives in Sydney. For more about George Palmer: George Palmer – Australian ComposerAbout me&my Health Up & Hostme&my Health Up seeks to enhance and enlighten the wellbeing of others. This is Peter King’s story from rags to riches. From poverty to CEO. From failure and low self esteem to contribution. A story of hopelessness to belief and purpose.Peter King’s life can be divided into 3 clear parts which are so different in character and personality! The first being up to the age of about 23 when Peter experienced fairly significant trauma, failure and poverty. He was living in a small village in South Africa when his father abandoned his mother with 4 young/small boys with very little money. Peter, being the youngest brother, learnt what it was like to attend a small village school with no shoes etc., live in a house without electricity, running water or even a bath room and leave school early and know failure at school and work. His first job was as an office boy.The second part was when Peter managed - with God's help - to turn things around and ended up as Executive Director of the Van Leer Group of Companies with turnover of about $3 Billion USD and CEO of John Fairfax. This in turn was followed in the last 27 years by Peter and his wife Pat deciding to give back to God at least something of his experiences by volunteering to move into the Christian Not For Profit sector in which he is still involved with. His aim was to move from success to relevancy!Resources mentioned by Peter:Characteristics of Different Organisational ModelsThree Pillars of Transformational Development that are a Prerequisite for Stability and Growth in SocietyTurning Your Vision in Reality About me&my Health Up & Hostme&my Health Up seeks to enhance and enlighten the wellbeing of others. What could be a more empowering approach to eating than trusting your own body's signals? Unleashing your intuition when it comes to food? This is what today's episode all about. As a clinical nutritionist and lifestyle medicine specialist, I, Anthony Hatcher, will be your guide as we explore the fascinating world of intuitive eating. We'll dig into how to distinguish authentic hunger signals from deceptive environmental triggers, and how all this interplays with the mind-body connection. The goal? To cultivate a healthier relationship with food and enhance your overall wellbeing. But we won't stop there. We'll take on the often misunderstood practice of calorie-counting and shed light on its pitfalls – mainly, the warped notion it fosters about food being 'good' or 'bad'. Instead, we'll create a mindful approach to eating that values balance and considers your unique lifestyle and health objectives – not a simplistic calorie count. I'll also be stressing the importance of eating in a relaxed state and giving your digestive system its well-deserved breaks – two often overlooked aspects of digestive health.Lastly, we'll tackle the tough topic of food triggers and how to manage them effectively. We'll break down how environmental triggers, boredom, and stress can masquerade as hunger and share strategies on how to handle these feelings without using food as a crutch. More importantly, we'll discuss ways to identify and deal with triggers that lead to emotional eating, ultimately empowering you for body transformation and wellbeing. So tune in, and please, share this enlightening episode with those who might benefit from it.About me&my health up & Anthony Hartcher me&my health up seeks to enhance and enlighten the well-being of others.
