Description

The Liviana is a type of fig grown in Roman gardens, colloquially named so as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the ancient rumour that empress Livia euthanized her husband, emperor Augustus, by poisoning his figs. The Liviana is a Classical Civilisations podcast to introduce A-Level Classics students to the wider Ancient world outside of the syllabus!

Hi guys! This is not a proper episode this week so I'm giving you a quick notice to apologise for my radio silence. Normal scheduling will resume next week!
Ironically, when I plan to do a short episode it ends up being an hour long... whoops. Today's theme is continuing from last week where we take a look at funerals, grief and the afterlife. Enjoy!
Today's podcast episode will be the first of a short series on Roman death. In this episode we cover the theme of dying; including deaths of infants and the elderly, death by disease, gladiatorial games and persecutions, as well as murder or suicide.
An introduction to my favourite book in the ancient world, the De natura deorum. Enjoy!
Welcome to The Liviana! An introduction to this podcast from me, to my Classics students.
