We've spent the last few months making our way through the book of John in our series, This Is The Way. We've examined the life and the way of Jesus, and soon we'll be looking at his death and resurrection. But sandwiched between those things is the account of the last night that Jesus spends with his disciples, in John 13-17. This is no doubt an extremely anxious time for everyone involved as Jesus is mere hours from the cross, and the disciples fear losing their way, their sense of belonging and identity, and their security. And that's a need and fear that we all experience. One of the things that connects us all as human beings is the need for home--a place of safety and security, where we are known and loved and at peace. In John 14, Jesus comforts his disciples by reminding them that the place, the home, that he's set aside for them isn't of an earthly nature, but a heavenly one. "Don't be troubled," Jesus says. "There are more than enough rooms in my Father's house."Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? This Sunday we continued our series “This Is The Way” and dove head first into John 13. After a long day in the hot middle eastern sun, 12 sweaty men, walking in their sandals down the dusty roads of Jerusalem were greeted by their rabbi for dinner. The teacher proceeded to put on a towel, get on his hands and knees and wash their filthy feet. This rabbi was the King of the universe, God in the flesh and the one who chose to humble himself and wash feet. He then looked at the men with him, as he looks at us through the barrel of antiquity and said, “Do for others as I have done for you.” Take up your towel. But before Jesus took up the towel, he had to take off his outer garments. Before he put on flesh and came to us in the earth, He had to step down from Glory. Before we can serve like Him, we must also like him set aside what hinders us from taking up our towels. Check out this week’s message titled, “Take Up Your Towel”!Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? In John 15, Jesus gives us one of his 7 "I am" statements found in the book of John with, "I am the Vine." What's unique about this statement is that Jesus also tells us who we are, "the branches." A branch's job is to bear fruit. We all want to bear fruit in life but our definition of fruit and God's definition of fruit is often very different. Because of that, God will often cut off the fruit we like to produce in us the fruit he likes. This Sunday we talked about how to bear fruit that pleases the Father in a message called "From Futile to Fruitful."Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? This is the Way!Our series through the gospel of John does not say “A” way, but “The” Way. Why? Because Jesus only offers us one way to follow Him, one way to salvation, one way to the life that we dream about. We think we can pick and choose the parts we like and don’t like about following Jesus and still experience the life He promises. We create our own way, another way, “A” way, and then wonder why it doesn’t  work.“The Way” is so counterintuitive to us that we are afraid to really accept it. It’s a paradox- a seemingly absurd or contradictory statement, but when tested proves true - “If you want to save your life, you have to lose it…If you want to be first, you have to be last…” To embrace “The Way” will feel like the death of joy, freedom, options, potential, and yet it’s the birth of real joy, freedom, and options. What Jesus asks, is simply what He has done. This week we saw the paradox lived out before us, as a woman makes a choice that everyone else thought, “what a waste!” While Jesus’ heart was moved, and what he deemed her act beautiful. She knew Jesus was The Way, and she responded accordingly.Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? Lazarus' death was felt deeply by his friends and loved ones, and the interaction that Jesus has with Lazarus' sisters proves that they had resigned themselves to the fact that this was the end. But this miracle that Jesus performs displayed how even death itself could not stop His power. This Sunday we unpacked this story in a message called, “Back to Life” with the hope that we would be encouraged not to give up on our prayers, but rather continue to come back to God even in the most dire of circumstances.Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? Happy Father’s Day! This week we unpacked one of the most famous examples of a father's love as we looked at the story of the Prodigal Son. While so much attention is often placed on the lavishness and extravagance with which the lost son lived his life, part of what we learn is that God, our father, is equally lavish and extravagant in the way he shows his love for us. In this way it's actually the father who is the prodigal.Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do bad things happen at all? How do we handle suffering in this world and in our daily lives? In light of all the bad and suffering, does God still work? Do miracles still happen? This Sunday we dove into John chapter 9. Through one man’s encounter with Jesus, we see amidst our suffering God can use it and perhaps we are just a miracle waiting to happen. The first three Gospels in the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, spend much time telling us WHAT Jesus did. But the book of John is preoccupied with something else. John will tell us over and over again WHO Jesus is. In fact, there are 7 famous "I am" statements in John about Jesus, and one of my very favorites is, "I am the Good Shepherd." In reality, Jesus is not the only shepherd we can follow. He's just the good one. What we all need to ask ourselves is, "Who's my shepherd?  What voice have I been following?" Sometimes we are fooled into thinking we are the god of our life, we are in control, and we are leading ourselves. But the Bible reveals that we are much more dependent, influenced, and in need than we would ever care to admit. This Sunday we learned the contrast between how the "Good Shepherd" leads us versus how the "World Shepherd" leads us in a message titled, “Who’s Your… Shepherd?”Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? Throughout history civilizations have thrived upon the ability to secure the most precious resource for people - water.Where good water supplies are, people flourish and prosperity follows. Where water is scarce and polluted, people grow sick and things decay. For most of us, we have access to as much clean and purified water as we want. We can turn on a tap, we have filters to deliver pure good tasting water... we can always have a bottle close by. Yet we don’t drink enough to actually satisfy our needs. The problem is not availability, it’s our own laziness, and false substitutes that are leaving us weak. The same is true spiritually. Do you get chronically spiritually dehydrated? Does your soul thirst for something real? The good news is that, Jesus has come for thirsty people. Jesus came for those who know they have a deep soul thirst and nothing in this life can satisfy it. Jesus alone has the answer to what our souls thirst for and Jesus alone IS the answer. We are back in the book of John in our series, “This Is The Way”!Isn't it interesting that the easier we try to make life, the harder it often gets. There's plenty of voices out there that promise the easy way to happiness, the easy way to love, and the easy way to pleasure. Jesus teaches us that there are plenty of fools out there who would love to follow that path. But he calls believers to a different path, the narrow way, that leads to life. Following the path of inner spiritual health is such a challenge in this world, but the joy and freedom of following it is endless. The narrow way is hard to walk, but will always deliver on the promise of life. This Sunday we talked about finding the narrow way in all things, and therefore life in all things, in a message titled, “Jesus’ Response to the Unfaithful”! Join us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus? In Matthew 28 Jesus gives us all our marching orders as Christ followers. We call it the “Great Commission.” Week in and week out we get to live out this mission at our Captivate churches as we see lives changed and disciples being made for the glory of God. But what about outside the walls of our campuses? How are we serving people, changing lives and making disciples of “every nation?” This Sunday highlighted and learned about how God is working through our missions ministry outside the walls of Captivate locally, regionally, and globally. We have been a part of some amazing ministry and humanitarian aid work domestically and internationally over this past year and we can’t wait to share some of the stories and highlights with you.If you would like to support our Missions efforts financially, you can give to Missions here! - https://pushpay.com/g/captivatesd?fnd=_X8s-yjAimtPEVRQJH1Trg&r=No&lang=en&src=pcglJoin us for service online or in person every Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, & 12:30pm (PST).If you want to share how God is moving in your life through this ministry, please let us know at info@captivatesd.com!Decided To Follow Jesus?
