In this episode I am joined by team dietitian Erika Behrmann RD, CDCES, CSSD, LDN to chat about all things gestational diabetes: how we screen for it, why it happens, and how we approach treatment & monitoring. Erika is such a fantastic resource on this topic as a dietitian who is not only board certified in diabetes education, but sports nutrition as well- it is incredibly rare to find a practitioner with both of these expertises to chat with and I am so lucky that she is on team Holley Fueled Nutrition as well! This episode is for you if you have gestational diabetes and are feeling anxious about how to manage it, nervous about there glucose screening, or are pregnant and unsure of what gestational diabetes is and why understanding your risk is important for both you and baby. The fact of the matter is- sometimes this condition just happens even in the moms with the healthiest diets & exercise habits! There can be a lot of stigma and shame around this diagnosis but we are here to diffuse this, help you feel empowered to take some control back, and dive into why fear mongering around the glucose screen is harmful. If you'd like to book a session with Erika, you can do so here: https://holleyfuelednutrition.com/nutrition-coachingTo save 20% on the Pregnant Athlete Nutrition Course, use code BABY20 at checkout: https://holleyfuelednutrition.thinkific.com/courses/the-pregnant-athlete To check out the Breastfeeding Athlete Nutrition Masterclass, visit: https://holleyfuelednutrition.thinkific.com/courses/breastfeeding-athlete

In this episode I am joined by Margie Davenport, PhD who is a researcher and professor of kinesiology, sport, and recreation at the University of Alberta. She has dedicated her recent research efforts to shattering "taboo" boundaries for both recreational and elite athletes, investigating the safety and impact of high-intensity training, heavy lifting, and contact sports during and after pregnancy. She also continues to lead vital research into complex pregnancies—such as those involving congenital heart disease, disability and type 1 diabetes—to protect the cardio-metabolic health of both mother and baby.In this episode we chat about how the exercise guidelines during pregnancy have changed in the past decade, where outdated recommendations come from and why they are misleading and even harmful, and a practical approach to how athletes should apply this information with their health care team. This episode is meant for educational purposes only and is not meant to replace medical advice nor constitute an individual relationship. Discuss any questions you may have with your health care providers.
