I am honored to be in conversation with my guest Ji Sub Jeong about model minority myth. Ji Sub is an illustrator and designer based in San Francisco. I really enjoyed this conversation with him, it made me recognize some perceptions I and people around me have always held about Asians for example Asians being good in STEM or the idea that Asians do not experience as much racism in the US as other minority groups. For me this conversation really highlights that Asians are not a monolithic group, Asia itself is a very diverse continent and so are the people. I hope you find this conversation insightful. Imposter Syndrome

Imposter Syndrome

I am in conversation today with Adunola Adeshola to talk about imposter syndrome with a specific focus on how imposter syndrome affects women in the workplace.  Adunola is a career strategist who helps corporate professionals land their dream job. She is also the founder of Employee REDEFINED and Forbes article contributor in which she shares tips on how to elevate your career and life. Imposter syndrome is the feeling you get in which you believe that you may be a fraud and someone is going to discover your inadequacies.  That feeling shows up in the workplace and it affects your ability to sometimes even apply for a job or seek after that promotion you want. Imposter syndrome is something that many people can certainly identify with. Studies suggest that about 70% of professionals experience it, so guys you are not alone. Many people experience these feelings especially  in the first few weeks of a new job, or after a promotion. I'll share my main takeaways at the end of this episode from the conversation. The Indigenous Story

The Indigenous Story

2020-10-2841:52

Many times when the conversation about diversity, equity and inclusion is taking place in regards to race, the focus is normally geared towards blacks, Hispanics and Asians. Many times, Native Americans are completely left out of the conversation. I have wondered why that is. Plus, many people in my circle that I have asked about what they know about the indigenous people of the United States, most if not always I get, I don’t know much and honestly neither do I. Which is why I am very excited to have Chenae Bullock as my guest today, to educate and enlighten us and speak about her experience in corporate America as a Native America. Chenae is a member of Shinnecock Indian Nation and a descendant of the Moutauk tribe in Long Island, New York. She’s a historian,  activist and founder of Moskehtu Consulting. This conversation with Chenae, it is such a loaded but very needed conversation. So I hope you guys are able to learn something new from this episode, I know that I certainly did. I am not the expert on this topics so this was a great starting point for me to go more in depth and research further about the Indigenous story. Want to do you own research? So many people have questions about race, diversity and inclusion and sometimes they don’t know who to ask or maybe they just want to hear the perspectives of their trusted friend. That is exactly what we're doing today. We’re flipping the script, in which I’m answering questions from a friend/listener and we are getting real and honest in this conversation. From what’s the correct way/terminology to address a person of color to white supremacy. Hope you enjoy and find value in this conversation as much as my guest Katie Wildman and I did. Let's get social!IG: dontsaythat_ishFacebook: Don't Say That IshLinkedin: Don't Say That Ish#dontsaythatishTo share your story on the show, email dontsaythatish@gmail.com with the subject line: Story Time.

The New American

We all know America is a melting pot of people from all over the world, but yet many people still struggle with the idea of what an American looks like and who exactly is American. For many first generation Americans or immigrants who came to the U.S as a child, I have often wondered if there is a struggle when they feel connected to both their American culture and their  ethnic culture. Does that make them less American? How does all this translate in the workplace? Just a few things to think about as we get into this episode.Joining me today to share THEIR “New American” perspectives are two of my friends and former HR counterparts. These two ladies that you’ll hear from today are passionate, dedicated and hard working HR professionals, they truly approach HR with a heart, really putting the human aspect in HR. I’m really excited to have Ana Bolanos and Ghalia Naveed here today. We'll be discussing stereotypes, and some of their encounters and experiences in the workplace as first generation Americans.Let's get social!IG: dontsaythat_ishFacebook: Don't Say That IshLinkedin: Don't Say That Ish#DontSayThat_Ish To share your story on the show, email dontsaythatish@gmail.com with the subject line: Story Time.
