Description

The one and only Gilmore Girls AND Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast brought to you by comedians/real life couple Bryan Morris & Stacey Kulow. Bryan grew up obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Stacey is a huge Gilmore Girls fan, but neither of them have ever seen the other's favorite show. Together they watch their way through both excellent 7-season series, discussing an episode from each show every week, in an attempt to figure out which show is better. Bryan & Stacey are New York-based writer/performers, both born and raised in the Midwest. They met doing improv in Madison, Wisconsin and have been together for over a decade.

Firefly Episode 6 "Our Mrs. Reynolds"/Bunheads Episode 6 "Movie Truck"One's a trained companion gone rouge, and one's a dress shop owner who hosts a book club at her out-of-town friend's house, but both of these ladies are trying to be someone else today. Both must find a way to sneak into/out of vehicle, but opt not to do it by seducing women. Both episodes feature unusual outfits, one made of teddy bears and one made for a gun. Some of our favorite characters face serious challenges this week, but other very significant characters only pop in for a quick sec. And this episode is sponsored by the Dune cup! (It's not really.)If you're wondering wondering what a Dune cup is, here ya go!Want more content? Sing up for our Patreon! A Meaningful Dance

2024-03-1201:24:03

Bunheads Episode 5 "Money for Nothing"/Firefly Episode 5 "Safe"This week the bunheads AND River get to express themselves through dance, at least until the forces of evil enter. For River, evil is kidnappers; for the bunheads, it's grocery bags. Malcom negotiates a fair price for the cows he's been flying around, while Michelle negotiates her way into a teen hangout after she can't negotiate financial sense into Fanny. We meet more family members of both Simon and Rico, who've both made notable fashion choices. River almost gets burnt at the stake. Boo should probably burn her clothes. And we definitely were NOT part of a cult.Want more content? Sing up for our Patreon! Firefly Episode 4 "Shindig"/Bunheads Episode 4 "Better Luck Next Year"Both Malcom and Sasha have been a bit snotty lately, so they offer Kaylee/Boo a dress/pointe shoes in hopes of winning back their friendship. Boo and Summer briefly change their identities in order to trick someone who could decide their fate. Inara has two men fighting over her on the dance floor, while Michelle struggles to find a man to do anything about her dance floor. Both episodes feature... catering? (Hey, it's not great, but it's a connection!) And Stacey completely forgets about the word carnivore, but what she said made sense... right?Want more content? Sing up for our Patreon! Bunheads Episode 3 "Inherit the Wind"/Firefly Episode 3 "Bushwhacked"Uh oh! Our lead characters have gone and gotten themselves arrested for being somewhere they shouldn't be. Also both of them spend this episode acquiring property from the recently deceased and discovering strange men in the homes they invited themselves into. The Serenity crew discovers a bunch of dead bodies, which somehow have way less of a stench than the mac n' cheese Boo's mom made. Both Boo and Malcom are forced into being in front on their quests to get the bad boy, and Bryan shares his version of a classic movie he's never seen.Want more content? Sing up for our Patreon! Firefly Episode 2 "The Train Job"/Bunheads Episode 2 "For Fanny"Lots of similarities this week including one very obvious one. We're treated to the same guest star in both episodes, playing two very different characters. There's also a smaller connection, in that Firefly's location of the week has a very similar name to the setting of Bunheads. We've got charcters who are feeling kind of useless, trying to figure out their next move. We've ladies in both episodes casually doing a friend's hair. Oh, and don't forget the implied dismemberment. Plus we had another recent movie-going experience ruined by an old woman!Want more content? Sing up for our Patreon! Bunheads Episode 1 "Pilot"/Firefly Episode 1 "Serenity"We started two new shows that were cancelled too soon, created by the same people as the other shows we used to talk about, and boy do they both loooove to reuse actors. New shows mean new names for Bryan to learn, and you'll be unsurprised to find out he is NOT good at it. The similarities are slim so far, but we're sure Amy's buried some for us to find down the road. Both shows do feature people stuck together trying to figure out their next move, someone revealing a financially motivated choice, and also death!? Our last Gilmore Girls episode was getting a little long, so we decided to record another one to wrap some of our lingering Gilmore thoughts. We discuss who we think Rory should end up with, including the completion of Bryan's teased thoughts on Jess and Rory. We break down the final four words and our feelings on the ending. We pitch some ideas for what the show might look like if they were to ever make more. Stacey reads some of Bryan's predictions from previous episodes, to see how close he was. And... we reveal what shows we'll be watching next! Here's more information on Amy Sherman-Palladino's new show, Étoile. Here's one of those Pitch Meeting videos we were talking about. And here's our cheese TikTok we referenced.Want more content? Buffy Season 8: Part 4

Buffy Season 8: Part 4

2023-12-1901:41:38

Well friends, we've reached the end of the Buffy Season 8 comics. They started off a little weird, then got so much weirder and more pornographic than we ever could have imagined. Buffy's straight-up a super hero now, though we're still not sure we understand why. You'll be happy to know, Giles' horses are still in the picture, though who has them might surprise you. Much like the last episode of A Year in the Life, a lot of old familiar faces show up. Joss writes everyone a little apology letter at the end, and Stacey tries out a bunch of new voices! If you want to follow along,  here's a list of the Buffy Season 8 comics. Stick to the titles and skim past the bodies of text if you're trying to avoid spoilers.Comics covered in this episode include: Season 8 Issues 31-35, the Riley issue, and 36-40.Don't forget to check out our music video for "Getaway (Stars Hollow)" from super talented musical artist, The Other Realm. A Year in the Life: Fall

2023-12-0501:59:31

We did it! We finished all of Gilmore Girls and recorded our longest episode ever! Probably our longest intro ever too, due to some neighbor drama and lingering thoughts about bidets. For as many issues as the revival series has, we really enjoyed this episode with its barrage of old characters and tear-jerking scenes. We do our best to figure out the meaning of whales and what the heck the show is trying to say about money. The final four words weren't quite what Byran predicted, but he did get some of them right. And we hope we didn't make you snort your coffee with that one thing. Here's Lauren Graham on a morning show addressing whether or not there'll ever be more Gilmore Girls. Here's that recent  Amy Sherman-Palladino interview. And here's that TikTok about Logan's grandfather lovin' ice!Want more content? Welp, things certainly haven't gotten less weird in the Buffy comics since we last chatted. We get appearances by plenty of old friends from the TV show and get introduced to vampy cats! You know, vampy cats... adorable, little, women-hating terror creatures. Harmony gets her own reality show, which somehow alters the status quo of the entire world. We meet a group of werewolves who are super afraid of knives. If you're a fan of the episode "Storyteller" you'll be happy to know the smoking jacket and camcorder make a comeback. And Giles befriends a baby!If you want to follow along,  here's a list of the Buffy Season 8 comics. Oh Summer... you were definitely weird and bad at times, but we still had fun. Lorelai volunteers to watch the first draft of Taylor's musical, for which she definitely had some notes, and so do we! Rory volunteers for a job that most definitely should pay. However, money rules tend to defy logic in Rory's orbit. Emily slept iiin!? She's also dating, eating in the living room, and has absolutely no idea whats inside her puffs. Buffy Season 8: Part 2

2023-10-1001:26:18

Okay, so things definitely got a bit weirder in this chunk of comics. We've got tree people; we've got a fish man; we've got a real sexy snake lady, and boy, does Dawn get up to some stuff. Our heroes travel the globe, and reunite with a very famous vampire from Season 5. Buffy travels through time to future New York City, where she's meets someone famous from the comics with a very interesting family connection. We then get a break from our regularly scheduled Season 8 comics to head back to Season 1. Now if you don't mind, we'd like to get back to our pasta. If you want to follow along,  here's a list of the Buffy Season 8 comics. 2023-09-2601:22:53

It's Wookie week! Rory still can't figure out her life, and Lorelai's is maybe starting to crumble a bit as well. We get to see a lot of old familiar faces in this episode, as well as one we've never seen. We take a trip back to Chilton where we get a whole lotta Headmaster, and liiiittle bit of the side of fake Tristan's face. It's hard to tell which is more impressive, how tall Paris' house is or how high she got her foot in the air. We loved to hate all that nonesense Sandy Says did with her hands. Buffy Season 8: Part 1

2023-09-1201:21:07

We've got some notes, per ushe, but we're really digging the comics so far! ...despite the super creepy, possibly problematic, underground slime monster. Buffy's back with a full slayer army, a big ole slayer budget, and big ole lil sis. The big bad seems to be a Marvel villain with a hairy chest and a secret identity... fer NOW! We get a lot of fun cameos, a very satisfying amount of Dark Giles, but also a lot more bath stuff than we expected. And please... don't hesitate to DM us if you'd like to see the pic of Buffy's sexy cherub dream. If you want to follow along,  here's a list of the Buffy Season 8 comics. A Year in the Life: Winter

2023-08-2901:18:53

We're kicking off Season 8 by heading back to a snowy Stars Hollow to see what our old friends are up to! Some things have changed a lot in the last 9 years, but mostly things are weirdly pretty much the same. Luke and Lorelai don't seem to have had any meaningful conversations since we last saw them, unless you count the time Luke said, "That's the kid." Of course we were excited to see a classic Gilmore kitchen fight. We were just shocked to see Rory's bare feet. Bryan's got a wild theory about Paul involving and Doyle/Johnathan. And overall, we really enjoyed watching this!If you want to follow along,  here's a list of the Buffy Season 8 comics, just to give you an idea of how many there are and how they're packaged. Stick to the titles and skim past the bodies of text if you're trying to avoid spoilers. Season 7 Wrap-up

2023-08-0801:31:14

In this special episode, we recap our thoughts on Season 7. We count down our top 5 moments from both shows, discuss our least favorite moments, reveal our favorite episodes, point out some similarities, and decide which show had a better season overall. Most would agree that neither show is at its best in Season 7, but we still enjoyed ourselves immensely! Despite these seasons not having all that many similarities, somehow our young heroines both end up, single, liberated, and off on a new adventure on a bus! As far as our next adventure, we hope you continue to follow us! Gilmore Girls S7 E22 "Bon Voyage"/Buffy S7 E22 "Chosen"Lorelai and Spike receive necklaces from their loves, as well as the bigger expressions of love they've been waiting for. Lorelai and Faith don't have time to be sad, so they channel those emotions into fighting Turok-Hans and power ironing. Rory and Buffy are still conflicted about their love lives, but have come to accept there'll be time for all that later. Both episodes feature callbacks to the ends of the pilots, as well as what we're calling "Deus ex Hugos". And we're so grateful you've come on this journey with us. Please stay tuned! There's much more Byran and Stacey to come. Here is the Strong Bad email that inspired Trogdor the Burninator. Here is the famous "wave o' babies" episode of Teen Girl Squad that Stacey keeps mentioning. Surprised by Shiny Objects

Buffy S7 E21 "End of Days"/Gilmore Girls S7 E21 "Unto the Breach"Things get a lot more interesting for Buffy and Rory after receiving their respective objects, but will these objects be... the last surprise? The lore of Buffy's scythe comes kind of out of nowhere, but so does Rory's sudden acceptance of her uncertain future. Andrew and Anya get into a playful wheelchair fight, while Taylor is wheelchair-bound after a tragic foot spa mishap. However, Caleb's bones might be even more brittle than Taylor's. Rory shares an emotional goodbye. Buffy shares an intimate hello. And holy sh*t, there's only one more episode to discuss!Apologies, both of our audio sounds a little weird at points in this episode.Want more content? Sing up for our Patreon! Gilmore Girls S7 E20 "Lorelai? Lorelai?"/Buffy S7 E20 "Touched"Rory and Buffy's worlds are crumbling around them, so they hide in beds that may or may not be theirs. Lorelai and Spike "take the stage" to cheer up their girls but soon find themselves in the middle of beautiful declarations of love. Luke's mysteriously back to wearing his old hat. (We did later remember it was was Rory who pointed out the new one.) Meanwhile many of the Buffy characters aren't really wearing much of anything. Neither shows ends in a proposal, but both end in "cliffies" with ominous audio over the credits. And can YOU say petri dish dress?Want more content? Sing up for our Patreon! Buffy S7 E19 "Empty Places"/Gilmore Girls S7 E19 "It's Just Like Riding a Bike"Giles has banished Spike and Andrew, and Lorelai's Jeep is busted, so this week, they're riding bikes! But that's not the only mode of transportation these episodes have in common. We learn that Michel and Clem both drive Volkswagens! Doyle gets kicked out of his apartment and his relationship, while Buffy gets kicked out of her house by a bunch of squatters. Paris & Kennedy stick their feet in their mouths. Spike/ Andrew & Lorelai/Jackson bond over snacks. And we're looking for travel recs, someone from Bryan's past, and a cure for Bryan's hiccups. Here's that Kevin Sorbo moment we were telling you about.Want more content? Sing up for our Patreon!
