Guitarist and Singer-Songwriter Dave Isaacs has rocked for the hippies in the mud at Woodstock, performed a solo guitar recital in a cathedral, played the blues on Beale Street, and shared a Manhattan club stage with Les Paul. He has released 14 albums over 25 years, carving out a rootsy melodic, guitar-driven sound with side trips into jazzy blues, folk and ambient instrumental sounds. On his latest release “Songs Without Words”, his nylon-string guitar leads the way through twelve intimate, cinematic tone poems, supported by a cast of guest musicians.  Roots Music Report calls him “a master musician”, and in his adopted home of Music City USA he has become known as the “Nashville Guitar Guru”, a teacher and coach to professional performers, hit songwriters, and the next generation of Nashville’s rising stars. David entered the Toronto music scene through his top Toronto club act “Stitches”. Career successes include opening act for Kim Mitchell, Trooper, and April Wine. Stitches were a top five winner of the Q107 homegrown contest for David’s composition “From this World”. David also played Piano on Capital records single release “She’s a Romantic” by the band “Photograph”. David’s real passion is for composition and he is currently composing music for all types of media including film, television and Pop radio. David’s recent successes include 13 selections at Broadjam in the U.S. In 2014 Broadjam recognized David’s soundtrack "It's too late as #1 in Broadjam's Top 10 List Canada and #1 in Broadjam's Top 10 Ontario. "Outlaw Day" achieved #4 in Canada's Top 10 and # 3 in Ontario. David earned his Grade 10 Piano, Grade 8 Pipe Organ, and Grade V theory from the Royal Conservatory of Music. He then attended York University as music major in the Fine Arts program. David also graduated in Computer Programming from George Brown College in Toronto. Sims’ music echoes the work of the 90's alternative rock movement by incorporating various genres of music as a palette to paint different styles of imagery into his music. Built on bold love and a fierce sense of interdependence, Now Defunkt emerged out of lockdown as a creative collective producing primordial soundbox of the soul shifts with a twist of lemon. Given the realities that we have all been living through, we are hoping to give a resonant nod to this good creation and shift our collective focus towards deep hanging out and restoration. At the beginning of the pandemic, three friends – Scott Macklin, Steve McMahon, and James Hunter with the help of their super groovy children – Nikko, Case, Anastasia, Amaris, Aeden, and some amazing friends released an album titled Skills Are Handy, Feel is Gold. The album art depicted the image of a girl running off of a cliff while flying a kite and not knowing if her fate was to fly or fall. We now move into our next phase with the release of Shifting Into a Lower Gear with the image of the girl who is now a bit older floating through liminal space with faith and balloons as her ballast and fuel.
