A made-up story even claims that his father Jasem Abou-teen emigrated to the USSR from Iraq where he use to sell figs (teen in Arabic), married a Russian lady, and had a boy named Abdulamir Abou-teen, who later changed his name to Vladimir Putin -😉While this is of course a bunch of B.S, it behooves us to know more about this influential man. Recently, Human Rights Watch issued a report titled “A Threshold Crossed” detailing their position and accusing the Israeli authorities of the crimes of apartheid and persecution. Today’s conversation is with an Arab-American who decided to move back to Palestine and be involved in advocacy and activism by working with humanitarian organizations and international human rights groups. We will cover day-to-day life of ordinary Palestinians and talk about efforts by various local and international organizations to help, advocate on their behalf, and provide them support. America has a love affair with firearms. The “gun culture” runs deep in the society going back to the early days of the founding on the country. The right to own a firearm is protected by law in the Bill of Right under the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution. Over the past few decades this has become a hot issue, and part of the political debate. In this episode we talk to a gun expert who will help us cover this topic in a balanced and objective way. The Michigan Behavioral Risk Factor Survey (MiBRFS) provides the state with data on various health behaviors, medical conditions, and preventive health care practices at the population level and by race/ethnicity. In 2013, Arab Americans were included in this survey. This episode covers what takes place when a patient with COVID-19 gets admitted to the hospital. Hassan talks with Dr Safwan Badr who is the chair of the Wayne State University School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine. Dr Badr is Professor of Internal Medicine, Physiology and Biomedical Engineering. He specializes in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine.
