Soar Over Scripture: The Book of Habakkuk. We continue in our study on the prophets. Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez surveys the book of Habakkuk as we explore the 7th century Minor Prophets. Habakkuk presents a Theodicy (defense of God's justice), asking why the good suffer and the wicked prosper. God provides a vision of ultimate judgment and calls the prophet to trust in the revealed Word of God.
SOS - Soaring Over Scripture. Continuing the series on the prophets, Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez surveys the prophetic book of Zephaniah. How do you handle loneliness? Do you feel Christ's presence in your life? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from John 14:1-6. Jesus addresses the coming isolation His disciples will experience after His death. He promises a destiny and a trajectory. He invites the disciples into affinity with the Trinity. He gives clarity of mission and capacity for salvation by His departure. Because Jesus ascended to heaven, we have hope of home in His presence forever. Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).
Can you actually find God? Paul says you can. Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Acts 17:16-34. On Mars Hill, Paul preaches the Gospel to the Greek philosophers. Paul calls people into relationship with the one true God. Finding God requires a quest for the truth. It demands a genuine search. Finding God requires turning from the spoof. Reject the lies of the world and the devil--even the lies we tell ourselves. To find God you must trust in the proof of the resurrection. God validates the Gospel of Jesus Christ by raising Him from the dead.  Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).
Advent of Antichrist (Sermon: Daniel 11:40-12:3) How should you live knowing that an evil day is coming? Are you walking in holiness? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 11:40-12:3. This passage tells of the end of the antichrist. After early military victories, the antichrist will turn his attention against God’s people. Even at his greatest point of power, the antichrist will fall and his reign will be cut short. Daniel was made aware of this vision to warn distant believers of future hardship. We can prepare the suffering by walking in holiness today. By striving for holiness, believers will be ready to avoid compromise when antichrists appear. Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).
Are you ready for spiritual warfare? Will you stand in the day of evil? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 11:36-39. This passage speaks of the antichrist. God has arranged the timing of this evil individual. He will be characterized by vainglory. He will be power obsessed and demon possessed. His time will mark hardship for God's people. We live in a world filled with leaders that evince demonic characteristics. We must prepare for evil days by standing on the promises of God and trusting in His protection. Resisting little antichrists equips us to resist Satan when he appears. Stand in the Spirit of God on the Word of God.  Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).
Are you a disciple? Are you a disciple maker? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 24:44-49, Acts 1:6-8. Matthew relates the final words of Christ in the Gospel of Matthew. In His Great Commission, Jesus commands His followers to make disciples. Wherever you find yourself, wherever you go, Jesus calls you to be a disciple maker. Discipleship involves bringing people into a relationship with Christ marked by baptism. Disciple makers walk with disciples unto maturity. Are you continuing to grow in maturity? Who are you helping become a disciple of Christ today? Are you a Gospel proclaimer? Are you a Herald for the King? Luke 24 reminds us of some of the final words of Christ in the Gospel of Luke. In this Great Commission, Jesus instructs His disciples on the content of the Gospel found in all Scripture. He reminds them of the unfulfilled task of proclamation. The Gospel must be proclaimed to all nations by those who witnessed the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ. As a believer, you have become of witness to the Gospel in your own life. Now you are called to herald that message to the nations. Will you proclaim the Gospel message today? Do you bear witness to the Gospel? What would you risk to maintain your witness? Acts recalls the commission to be witnesses. In the power of the Holy Spirit, God's witnesses will share the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Church history shows us that often witnesses are synonymous with martyrs. Would you give your life to the advancement of the Gospel? Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).
Do you trust that God knows the things to come? Do you believe that He has power over the future? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 11:1-35. God reveals a perfect prediction of the future to his faithful prophet. Israel will find herself mired in the middle, stuck between the two competing powers of Seleucus and Ptolemy. Eventually a monstrous monarch will arise to torment the saints. God will sustain true believers, who persevere. These will be purified through persecution until the appointed time. These verses reveal some of the most specific prophecy in the Bible. When we review history, we see that it truly is His Story. God knows what is coming. He promises to walk with His own through the storm. Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).
Old Testament-Christ-New Testament: What to Do About Disney? (pt. 2) - We have received even more questions about what Christians should about Disney's recent actions in the news. Is there a Christian response? Can believers ignore Disney's stated agenda? OTXNT stands for Old Testament-Christ-New Testament. On OTXNT, Ben Pate, Ph.D. (Old Testament) and Andrew Marquez, Ph.D. (New Testament) provide Biblical instruction (teaching, and preaching) and evaluate present events and practices in light of Scripture. Andrew Carter Marquez (Baptist on the Bible) is Dean of Arizona Campuses for Wayland Baptist University and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church in Tucson, AZ. Ben Pate (Theological Sidebars) is the pastor of Royal Palms Baptist Church in Phoenix, AZ. He is also adjunct faculty for Grand Canyon University.
Are we earnest in our prayers? Have you ever had an overwhelming encounter with God? Are you aware of the spiritual conflict around you? Have you enjoyed angelic aid? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 10:1-11:1. These verses reveal an earnest entreaty from Daniel. Through prayer, mourning, and fasting, Daniel's prayers are heard. The prophet receives an overwhelming encounter with God. He sees an awe-inspiring individual. The vision terrorizes Daniel and saps his strength. The individual speaks and soothes the prophet. Daniel's prayer produced a powerful vision of God that left him undone. Have you had a similar experience? Persevere in prayer and come to know God in a fresh, deep, and powerful way. Daniel is awakened by an angel. The angel, Gabriel, informs Daniel of the spiritual warfare that delayed the spirit. Gabriel will soon return to this battle, but first the angel will minister to the prophet. Gabriel restores Daniel's speech. He renews Daniel's strength. The angel prepares Daniel to understand God's revelation. Have you encountered angels in your walk with God? The Bible declares that angels minister to us even today. As Satan and his demons try to hinder your walk with God, faithful angels stand ready to serve the saints. Be comforted by God's provision.  Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).
Do you marvel at fulfilled prophecy? Do you look for prophetic fulfillment on the horizon? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 9:20-27. These verses provide the angelic answer to Daniel's prayer. The answer is a message about the future filled with tasks and a timeline. We see a countdown to the coming of Christ. We learn of the Messiah being cutoff along with the collapse of the sanctuary and the holy city. Eventually, one will appear to deceive and cause desolation. His time however is known and limited. God's knowledge of the future offers comfort to believers. God's promises are reliable since He holds time in His hands.  Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).
What does your prayer life look like? Do you intercede for others? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 9:1-19. These verses retell the prayer of a prophet. Daniel confesses his own sins along with the sins of his people. He recognizes God’s righteousness in judging us for our sins. Daniel reminds God of the covenantal promises made to his fathers. He celebrates God’s past deliverance of Israel. Finally, Daniel asks God to relent and to restore. He asks God to act according to His character, to forgive, to turn away wrath, and to act on behalf of His people. Do you pray like Daniel? We can follow the example of the prophet in our own prayer, confessing our sins while clinging to the New Covenant in Jesus Christ. In this posture, we are emboldened to beg for God’s favor. Dr. Andrew Marquez is Director/Dean of Wayland Baptist University's Arizona Campuses (www.wbu.edu/arizona) and Executive Pastor of North Swan Baptist Church (www.northswanbaptist.com).
