Babysode: Room Parents

2024-01-1933:16

First Babysode of 2024 is in the books and we are starting off on a pretty passionate note this year! Kaila and Jimmy discuss Room Parents; those (hopefully) lovely parents who have volunteered their time, money, and energy to support their child's teacher and model building connections between school and home. Because that's what a room parent's job is, right? Let's discuss.Magic Mind is an energy supplement that Kaila recently tried and is now drinking instead of coffee! This month's Babysode is Holiday/Christmas themed as Jimmy and Kaila discuss the often polarizing Elf On The Shelf. After reading listener responses about why many parents refuse to allow this lil' elf into their homes in the month of December, Kaila and Jimmy round out their discussions by commenting on the importance of protecting your mental load during the holidays amidst a culture that is always shouting for "more, more more!".Magic Mind is an energy supplement that Kaila recently tried and is now drinking instead of coffee! Never A Young Mother

Never A Young Mother

2023-12-0856:56

This episode of Parent Tell is a refreshing take on "geriatric" pregnancy (still refusing to acknowledge that term over here in the Parent Tell Camp), being present in your life, and accepting everything for what it is even if it's not exactly in your control. Kaila had the opportunity to talk with Barb Higgins, host of the podcast A Thousand Tiny Steps and new author of the book, Motherland about her experience getting pregnant and giving birth in her upper 50s. The two toddler moms discuss the power behind keeping information close to the chest, how Barb deals with strangers' comments/looks when mistaken for her child's grandma, and why we really need to take a page out of Europe's book and have activities be free for children 5 and under.Magic Mind is an energy supplement that Kaila recently tried and is now drinking instead of coffee! On this week's episode of Parent Tell, Kaila chats with Jaely Turner, a full spectrum doula and podcast host. Kaila and Jaely discuss what's happening in your body during postpartum, the importance of being honest about what the postpartum period entails, and the major ways to set yourself up for success once you bring baby home and postpartum sets in. To those who have experienced it, it's no secret that the entire transition into parenthood is extremely humbling. This week's episode of Parent Tell is a powerful one and discusses one mom's experience with finding out her daughter would be born with some sort of developmental delay and the fight she fights every single day to do what she needs to do for her daughter. Angela's daughter was born with DiGeorge Syndrome, a disorder caused when a small part of chromosome 22 is missing. This deletion results in the poor development of several body systems. Medical problems commonly associated with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome include heart defects, poor immune system function, a cleft palate, complications related to low levels of calcium in the blood, and delayed development with behavioral and emotional problems. The number and severity of symptoms associated with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome vary. However, almost everyone with this syndrome needs treatment from specialists in a variety of fields.Angela's story is powerful, as it showcases exactly what moms are willing to do, and what they go through, in order to be there for their children and give them what they need.Don't forget! On this week's episode of Parent Tell, Kaila talks with Kelly, a mom who has had 3 children and 3 Cesareans. Kelly shares her raw and honest thoughts on what it was like to have multiple C-Sections, from the anxiety she felt the night before, to what recovery is like when a toddler wants to bounce on your incision site, and what she has come to think about her scar and postpartum body. The moms also discuss  various vital parenting truths, like how sometimes it's just necessary to put your kid in the football hold in order to leave the park, and that high-waisted pants are LIFE. Don't forget! This week on Parent Tell Kaila talks with Megan MacCutcheon, a Licensed Professional Counselor focused on perinatal and postnatal mental health. The moms bring up the power of feeling two contrasting emotions at the same time and why we need to be talking about this more with our partners, doctors, friends, and basically everyone. Prolapse Problems

2023-04-1954:57

This week's episode can be summed up in a few choice words: prolapse, lube, trauma, pelvic floor.Kaila talks with Sarah Mayer, a pregnancy and postpartum corrective exercise specialist, who is very similar to Kaila in many ways. Both moms gave birth in 2020, are military spouses, teach or have taught group fitness, and most importantly, both women have turned their pregnancy and birth trauma into a mission to help and educate others. Sarah shares with Kaila her birth trauma and birth injuries dealing with a fistula and prolapse while giving birth to her first child in a country where she didn't speak the language. The toddler moms discuss the shock and anger involved in all of the above and the importance of discussing these topics and educating ourselves.Find out more on Sarah's IGDon't forget! This week's episode of Parent Tell discusses single motherhood. Kaila speaks with a friend of a friend (not even being cheeky, literally), Alyssa,  about her experience as a single mom. This week's episode of Parent Tell was a bit of a high school reunion for Kaila and her guest, as you might be able to tell from the amount of giggling (and the fact that Kaila tells you the guest is a high school pal, duh). Kaila speaks with Clara, a mom who has experienced the dreaded? Famed? Infamous?  two children under 2. Twice! And she also was living the three under 3 life for a few months after her last baby was born and her first was a few months shy of 3. The moms talk about the potential pros and cons of having children close in age, why Clara and her husband chose that path, as well as the importance of embracing where you are. And also whether or not to leash a child who enjoys sprinting away from you. What can we say, this episode has it all.Don't forget! This week's episode is a cute, tiny, lil' Babysode! Kaila and Jimmy asked listeners the question that has become famous on Parent Tell and that is, "How has being a parent changed you as a person?" While reading your responses to this question, Kaila and Jimmy discuss how they've changed, particularly how being a toddler parent has changed them versus being an infant parent, and how it's important to self reflect on your parenting journey every now and then. Because we're all doing a great job, even if it doesn't feel like it in the moment.Don't forget!
