Description

Inside the Creative Coop, you'll meet Marta and Rory Paul. As spring chickens, she was a dorky orchestra girl and he was a guy in a band. Time has flown, and they have grown, into full feathered creative Winter Chickens. They love creativity, to talk it, sing it, and bring it, to you. They talk about the sweet mystical Muse, symphonies, rock, and blues, whatever you and the Chickens choose. Come roost with them, and hatch your own creative eggs. You're off the clock, come join the flock.

It happens every mid-Summer, the Summer Solstice. It has been happening for millennia. Or longer. As long as humans have danced, celebrated, sung and joined together to rejoice, refresh, and renew. We join and renew with our two great guests, Lyn Koonce and Sue Sassman. Come celebrate with us!

Remembrance, and Memorial. We honor all, and share the stories of our own. Bitter-sweet, yet full of gratitude and Grace.
Mothers Create!

Mothers Create!

Divahood, Motherhood, Cinderella's Ball. Wants and shoulds, can you have it all? Marta tells it, Bronwyn and Madelyn sing it, and Rory Paul helps bring it to Mothers, Fathers, Sisters and Brothers for Mother's Day.  Music, insight, and discourse. Domestic Divas, and Creativity of course.  (Mothers, and many others love the photo by Paige Cody/unsplash)
"Over your fences, and up thru the cracks, of your cold concrete islands, I'll soon have them back." So spoke the Earth in a song. Joni had a song too, "We are star-dust, we are golden, billion year-old carbon. And we've got to get ourselves back to the Garden."  We honor Earth Day, our love for everyone's mother, share stories about her and stewardship. Our guest is Sue Sassman, the creative Fairy Queen of our local Summer Solstice for 16 years. Tho time means little to the Earth. But could she be running out of it? Better get our lil ole human act together, before she shrugs us off like bothersome fleas.  Scratch, scratch. Scratch a little dirt instead. (love the photo by Gabriel Jimenez/unsplash)
Yep. The Winter Chickens admit it. We watched a lot of movies over The Winter of the Vid.  C-19. That's not a movie rating, it's a virus number.  The virus belongs in a Grade B movie.  Some dorky low-budget sci-fi thing, that is so bad it makes you laugh. The Chickens ain't laughing. Well, we do actually.  And talk about Grade B movies, Grade A as well.  "Oh, is this movie a take? Will it stand on its own, or crash by the lines we fake? Roll Camera Roll, take a clip of my heart before it falls apart, take a cameo shot of my Soul." (from Maker's Wine** song "Roll Camera Roll")  **Maker's Wine, the Winter Chickens' music duo....which may soon be a trio. Stay tuned. We think it's Grade A.
From the Garden to the asphalt jungle, everywhere and everywhen in between, women have let their creativity be known. When they could. As in a previous podcast of ours, there has been adversity. We address and face it, making sure not to erase it, reach to embrace it.  The growth, the courage, the pain and the gain of it. Women thru history holding to a brighter dream, learning and searching, holding and birthing, a  song of nativity and creativity.
Saint Patrick's Day, and Spring blessedly following, with four leaf clovers, and the end of Covid (with luck). Join the Spring, er, Winter Chickens as they interview  Irish-born sculptor (amongst other creative things) Paul Nixon. Give a listen, it's your Lucky Day! (we were lucky to find the photo by Dimitry Anikin)

Lovin' It All, Part 2

The Winter Chickens Love having their friends Zora Medor and Chris Corry in the studio. We talk about, poetry about, laugh and cry about loving the ups and downs, the big and small, of Lovin' It All. We mirror the stunning photo by Cedric Letsch, heights and depths, water rise and water fall. Lovin' It All.

You can make the best of everything, that's been said a  time or two. But it won't mean much of anything, 'til there's Love 'tween me and you. You can make the worst of this and that, between the rise and fall. But the way back Home and to the Heart, is when you Love It All.  (rory paul '21) We touch on the tough Love in the last episode, then move with some of those same artists and new ones, thru the Ripples that Love creates. After all, we Make Love.
Listen.  Do you hear the voices?  Echoing from the hold of a slave ship, from a secret meeting in a tiny cabin, in stories handed down from long ago,  and poems spoken today about a better tomorrow.  Listen, as we honor Black History Month.  With voices, songs, stories, spoken word, and Hope.  Listen to what echoes here.   Songs of Freedom, and Grace.  "Oh Lord, have Mercy", grant me "The Strength of the Almighty"
It's challenging, it affects all of us, but there are creative ways to not let it get the best of us. Give the best of yourself to others, and to your own creative process.  Be a creator! You won't just feel better, you'll feel Greater! The Winter Chickens and Friends share about making things, like songs and pies, connections and ties, what speaks to our Souls and  brightens our lives.  The Chickens brightened their own life, made a new website: https://thewinterchickens.com
Is the Muse immune to Covid? We aim to find out! With your help, your music, and insights. We share some of our own as well. And though immunity is ideal, so is carrying and creating on as best we can. With a little help from our friends, like you! In a time of winning and losing, there is still music and musings in The Creative Coop. It took a while, but most of the Chickens do ok with social distancing.  Masks are another story.
Who's Your Muse?

Who's Your Muse?

The Winter Chickens love the Muse.  They have theirs and so do you.  She's more than one,  but do you have to choose?  Poetry, jazz, or blues?  You can do 'em all, you really can't lose! The Coop door is open, come on in,  and be a-Mused.

She's creative, she's a goddess.  In the 2nd episode,  the Chickens got this.  The Muse that is.  Marta and Rory Paul  give their all to the enigmatic and grooving, not static but always moving, Muse.  They joke and laugh, share their craft, and even yours if you let them. So don't forget them.  Come on in, cackle and grin, as the Chickens cook up more creative dishes, with music, insight and wishes.  It's a-musing, and delicious.

In their first full episode, hosts  Marta and Rory Paul  share stories, songs and insight about creativity.   In concert with the season of  Thanksgiving, they focus on  gratitude for the blessings of all  creative art, especially music, as that is their joy and passion.  Listen while you drive, cook, celebrate, and safely connect, to friendly dialogue,  heartful thankfulness, and lilting music.
