There's not a lot that we take more seriously here at O&H Consulting than food - and chocolate is right up at the top of that list.  Add to that a healthy dose of grass roots activism (we bought 8 of the chocolate uteruses and are pleased to say we got one with the raspberries!!!), women finding fulfilling careers that allow them to earn profit, follow their passion, and be full-time moms and there was no way we weren't going to love Lindsay Tarnoff and her team at Laughing Gull.  They are pioneering a new way of creating sweet treats - that acknowledges the true cost of their ingredients.  Really, our only regret is that they're not partnering nationally to have one of their amazing pairing menus local to us!   Go and learn more about them!  Buy chocolate!! For many people, the phrase "brain training" sparks thoughts of online games and apps, but Dr. Amy Moore provides the 1-on-1 human alternative for struggling learners. In this episode of Hey! I Want Your Job, she speaks with Michele about one of the most common concerns posed by parents of an excitable kiddo: "I think my child has ADHD. Now what?!" Armed with her extensive credentials and experience, along with an empathetic approach as an ADHD Warrior herself, Dr. Moore breaks down some of the common misconceptions regarding this condition. She also speaks on the subject of why some parents might choose to serve as a partner in their child's brain-training program, why some elect to leave it entirely up to the pros, and why either approach is completely a-okay!  Dr. Amy Moore is a cognitive psychologist at LearningRx in Colorado Springs, CO at the headquarters of the largest network of cognitive training centers in the world. She specializes in cognitive rehabilitation training and cognition assessment for ADHD and other neurodevelopmental disorders, brain injury, learning disabilities, and age-related cognitive decline. Long-gone are the days when cash ruled the world. But many payment-processing companies still aren't set up to look out for the best interests of solo entrepreneurs or even small businesses. Jamie Barlett's company, Polypay, is out to make the system more accessible for businesses of all types and sizes. Meanwhile, she's working to improve the work-life balance for her own employees, ensuring fairness starts from the inside out. In this episode, she talks with Michele about overcoming many of the obstacles and expectations associated with being a "Head B*tch in Charge," including why it's okay to make certain jokes in a professional setting, but not acceptable to call your employees "family" -- or waste a person's time with an unnecessary "Rose All Day" happy hour.  Learn more about Polypay and Jamie at:  Polypay website: https://polypay.com/  Jamie Barlett LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamie-barlett-0b8a4116/ Hey! There are a lot of ways that this country lets down those who serve.  An often overlooked one is that we don't provide affordable, safe, and comfortable housing for them and their families when we ask them to relocate.  Often enlisted personnel - and their families - spend months waiting on housing to become available.  Kate Dunne and her employer, Patriot Family Homes, are trying to help.  They offer reasonably priced AirBNB's designed to accommodate families in longer term stays.  Kate talks a lot about their process and her design ethos (comfortable, sturdy, affordable), but mostly about the people they help.  Think that travelling around the country decorating homes for veterans sounds like a dream job?  Great! There is no harder job than being a parent.  Add to that the conflicting societal stresses put on women about who they "should" be, and you get a real need for a mentor.  Everyone has their own thought, suggestions, and recommendations on how to raise your kid.  Most of this is based on either how they were raised themselves, a book they read, or how they raise their own children.  And 90%+++ is garbage.  It doesn't reflect YOUR child, or YOUR household.  Jill Urbane is an actual expert with actual training who works with parents to cut through the noise, cut through the drama and find ways of improving things for their actual household.  She's the bestfriend every mom needs.  Jill will come to you live via Zoom to help, but she's also got a wealth of free resources available to help anyone who needs it.  Check her out: Website: www.thementormomblog.com  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFQsS7XZAyDX1whB9ysRdoQ  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheMentorMom/  TikTok: @therealmentormom  Instagram: @thementormom Twitter: @jillurbane  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jill-urbane-0b1a6239/  Linktree: @Thementormom Hey! When we think of jobs in Hollywood behind the camera there's a standard list: Director, Producer, camera crew, casting, etc.  The truth is that there are hundreds of roles that are required to make the films and television we love - and most of them are ones we've never heard of.  One of those is Script Supervisor, and leading the charge to change the visibility and value assigned to this role is Caryn Ruby.  Caryn has held a wide number of roles both in front of the camera, and behind the scenes after much soul-searching she decided on a "day job" as a Script Supervisor.  Listening to her talk through the duties and responsibilities, the only response is "wow!!!".  It's a LOT.  Yet, they get so very little press.  To help with that Caryn has recently launched an awesome new podcast: The Script Supervisor. This limited series podcast talks about the role, the craft, what happens when it's right, and what happens when it goes WRONG.  Exciting answers include what did happen with that coffee cup on GOT??? Here's a bit more about Caryn: An award-winning dark comedy writer, performer and professional Script Supervisor, Caryn Ruby has scripted alongside Oscar and Emmy award-winning crew on award-winning and groundbreaking films including both Women In Media Camaraderie initiative Grand Prize Winning Films "Charlie and the Hunt" (Cannes), and “Blood and Glory” (Tribeca) and Women In Film/Google’s short film lab selection, “Choices.” Additionally, she had the privilege of script supervising the American Society of Cinematographer’s Standard Evaluation Manual (StEM2) film “The Mission,” and was selected as one of 17 fellows for Blackmagic Collective’s Filmmaker Advancement Initiative. She just launched her original podcast, “Script Supervisors: Unsung Heroes of Film and TV” - a backstage pass to filmmaking from the rarely acknowledged, but incredibly important department head’s perspective, featuring over a dozen top script supervisors from across the USA. When someone within our circle is diagnosed with cancer it's a difficult experience for everyone.  Kim Hamer reminds people that "they're experiencing it too".  She leads from a strong place of empathy and experience.  Having lost her husband at a very young age to unexpected cancer she knows what it's like.  In this episode Kim talks about how she was frustrated with her mother in law until she realized "I lost a husband, but she lost a son".  Big, scary things happen not only to us but to those around us.  They affect our colleagues, families, friends, businesses, and so much more.   Kim helps businesses deal with those big scary things. Her organization, 100 Acts of Love provides training, coaching, and more to facilitate those conversations.  She helps managers know what to say instead "let me know if I can do anything" (which Kim advises is actually the worst thing you can possibly say).  Visiting the website will tell you why that's so bad, and the other 4 things you should never say. Here's how they describe it on the website: DID YOU KNOW 46% of those diagnosed with cancer are between the ages of 25 and 64, prime working years? 80% of those diagnosed with cancer intend to work while they are being treated? Managing an employee with cancer is disquieting. Most managers don't have the correct tools to manage their team in a crisis. Most managers don't know how to be empathetic and clear about workload and ability. Most team members don't know how to support the employee affected by cancer and avoid giver's resentment. Most employees affected by cancer are scared to ask for help and are worried about their ability to continue to work effectively. Most organizations miss the opportunity to teach their managers how to manage through a crisis and help teams show up in a meaningful way that builds camaraderie and productivity! Kim's work is amazing and so important.  Her energy is instantly healing.  You should get to know her better. Limor Bergman managed to work her way to Director of Engineering despite all the odds being stacked against her as both a woman and an immigrant.  Along the way she learned a lot of lessons about "playing the game" and when not to play it.  Today she uses that hard-won knowledge to employer the next line of women in engineering.  Here's what she says: Hi, I am Limor. I have been working in the tech industry for over 20 years as a software engineer, engineering manager, and Director of engineering. I know firsthand what it is like being a woman in a male-dominated field. After spending nine years living in the US, I returned to my home country and decided to focus on my passion for supporting women's career growth in tech. I have been mentoring women for over four years and created a mentorship program for women with PowerToFly. I also consult with companies that want to build mentorship programs or build a complete mentorship program based on the company's needs. When I moved to the US in December 2010, I had to find a job in a new country without knowing anyone. So I had to navigate LinkedIn and figure out how to brand myself for employers and find a job. I perfected my LinkedIn profile and was able to get multiple job opportunities without even looking for a job. I now help women do the same and have a one-on-one coaching business and a course on LinkedIn. Think comic book geeks are all boys? Nope.  Think the ones that aren't are all chubby teenage girls? Nope. Think people fantasy fans are all starry-eyed romantics who can't deal with reality? Nope. Meet Danielle.  She breaks all the stereotypes.  Beautiful, smart, kind, and in every possible, amazing way - a massive NERD!  She's breathtaking. Danielle was a nurse trying to help her client deal with the painful reality of regular treatments for Lupus, and started making up stories for him. That world grew until it needed to be captured on paper.  That's how Locked Out of Heaven started. Here's her story as she tells it: Danielle M. Orsino is a fantasy novelist whose compelling word-weaving pays homage to a multitude of personal muses, from Chris Claremont and George Pérez (both famous comic book writers), to Anne Rice, Jim Henson and Wonder Woman. The creative spark of storytelling has been with Danielle ever since she was a child, but martial arts and her nursing career took center stage into adulthood. Then, on a day like any other, it was reignited during the most unexpected of moments: while treating one of her patients. It started as a simple tale to distract her patient and transformed into a fantastical narrative that would become the foundation for the series "The Birth of Fae". In keeping with the roots of her creativity, it was a unanimous decision by 4 Horsemen Publishing to place her on the cover of each book in all her Fae cosplay glory. The series also features Los, an affable chameleon dragon, inspired by her fun-loving Yorkie named Carlos. This “New Queen of the Fae’s” unmatched world-building and masterful Fae-origin retellings have led to an ever-growing queendom of “Fae-natics”. Any parent of a high schooler can tell you how overwhelming and stressful college selection is.  From trying to choose where to go, to what to study, and all of the test, essays, recommendations, and more that go into that application it is overwhelming.  Rising instances of depression, anxiety, and even suicide within adolescence have been linked to the increasingly competitive nature of college admissions.  Beyond that, we have the recent scandals with celebrities and the super-rich buying their way into top universities.  Parents and educators alike are desperate for a better way.  A way that gives students a real impression of what college life is like and helps them plan for where they might want to go without the eye-watering expense of college tours, or the pressure of unrealistic expectation.  Enter The College Tour.   In this newest endeavor, television veteran Alex Boylan (season 2 winner of the Amazing Race!) follows the real stories of real students from all backgrounds and walks of life in real universities.  The show deep dives into their path to university, and life once they arrive.  It gives perspective families and students an little glimpse behind the glossy guide books and into what real life on campus looks like.  Starting out as a personal passion project for Alex trying to help his niece pick the school for her, it's now in its 5th season and covers schools of all shapes and sizes from across the country. In this week's episode Alex talks about the show, but also about the realities of life in television (the good and the bad).  It's a fascinating conversation that will leave you wanting to learn more about him and The College Tour.  Here's a few places you can look: Alex on Twitter: @boylanalex The College Tour on Twitter: @thecollegetourtv Alex on Insta: @boylanalex The College Tour on Insta: @thecollegetourtv LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexanderboylan/ Website: https://www.thecollegetour.com/ Hey! When you think of an up-and-coming C-suite exec in the technology sector you probably don't imagine a 5'2", 40-something LGBTQ+ woman with purple hair whose dress fashion is self-described as "pajama-chic".  You'd be wrong.  Athena Peters is a veteran creative leader in the gaming industry who has a star-studded career working on some of the biggest titles with the biggest studios in the industry.  After dealing with rampant misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and masculine centric narcissism of that world for 20 years Athena declared it enough. Today Athena is at the creative helm of her second venture (her first, Incantrix Productions is very alive and kicking, delivering insanely creative live events and epic LARP scenarios) into the world of gaming with Rainbow Unicorn Games.  Their motto? Women, POC, Indigenous & Queer stories are rarely considered by the video game industry, and yet we make up the majority of people playing. It’s time to make games for this majority. At Rainbow Unicorn Games Athena is assembling a team unlike any other in the industry to create a style and premise of game without violence, preconceptions of gender, race, or body-type and with deep and engaging story lines.  Like most trailblazers there are bumps and struggles along the way.  In the interview Athena talks about some of that, and how she got to where she is.   If you want to know more about Athena or her work check out these links: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/athena-z-...Incantrix: https://incantrixproductions.com/Rainbow Unicorn Games: https://www.rainbowunicorngames.com/Romancing Jan: https://www.romancingjan.com/Hey! With the major investments in startups over the last couple of years a few roles have seen a huge increase in demand.  Many of those are in the "Product" area, so titles like Product Manager (PM), Product Marketing Manager (PMM), and their ilk have become hot hot hot in the market.  For many looking to grow their careers, or change into these paths there is a lot of confusion about what's what, and who's who.  What's the difference between a Project Manger, Product Manger, Program Manager, and Architect?  Honestly, the Venn Diagram for all of those has a lot of overlap, but there are some important distinctions.  Patrick Falgoust is an expert on all of the above. Not only is he a Senior Product Manager, but he either currently or historically has hired all of the above.   In this week's episode Patrick talks through the realities of what are these roles, and how do you get one.  He has some surprising advise for job seekers included! Bobby Hedglin-Taylor is one of those people that brightens any room.  His anecdotes are so incredible that they would be difficult to believe from anyone less humble!  Circus, theater, television, books, you name it and Bobby's been involved!  While he never name drops it is clear he's been in some of the most incredible places with some amazing people.  High on the that list - his mom!  Bobby has written an incredible homage to his mother's humor, perspective, and memory called "#ShitMyMamaSays".  It's hilarious, and moving, and a bundle of catharsis in one place.  Here's what he says about it:   A little about me: Bobby Hedglin-Taylor, a circus and aerial designer who has worked on and off Broadway, in summer stock and regional theater as well as rock concerts and cruise ships, has just published his first book! Bobby's book is a tribute to his late mother called #ShitMyMamaSays-a humorous look at life while dealing with dementia. Now available on Amazon. In a recent podcast interview the host called him the "multi-hyphenated artist". Indeed he is! Trapeze artist, actor, dancer, singer, comic are only a few of those hyphens! Now adding author to his extended list! After his mother showed signs of dementia, Bobby had to take on the gut wrenching task of moving his mother into a nursing home. She was a spitfire with a mouth like a truck driver. To deal with the emotion and guilt Bobby took his mom's pithy sayings and shared them on social media. Sharing with the Hashtag #ShitMyMamaSays. This became a humorous way to deal with the stress and connect with others who have traveled the same path. After losing his mother at the beginning of the pandemic and suffering with Covid-19 himself Bobby Hedglin-Taylor began to write and in the 16 months of quarantine wrote two books to memorialize her amazing sense of humor.
