Life is not complicated. It is complex. It is the difference between assembling a piece of furniture that has 178 connecting pieces (complicated) and playing a game of chess (complex). Complicated challenges have linear solutions (just follow the furniture instructions…piece A connects to piece B using screw F…and eventually your piece of furniture looks like the picture), but complex challenges have multiple outcomes (in the first two rounds in a game of chess there are 197,000 possible outcomes…by round 3 there could be 121 million outcomes) Chess is complex because each move is dependent upon the choices of the two players. Life is like that! Everyone making choices and we are all on the same chess board. Scripture, faith, and following Jesus is not like putting a piece of furniture together. It is like playing chess…making the best choice we can because of Scripture, faith, and following Jesus.
